Seriously y'all... I think AI is going to take over the world.  You can't tell what's real and what is ChatGPT...

Dear Houston Chronicle,

As a proud member of the Texas A&M Aggie family, I feel compelled to voice my concerns about the increasingly overwhelming influence that t.u. and their Longhorn football program have over the college football landscape in our great state. It's no secret that the sips have always tried to dominate the conversation, but enough is enough!

Despite the Aggies' hard work, tradition, and success on the field, it seems like the media, including the Chronicle, can't resist giving t.u. more attention than they deserve. While they might be soaking up the spotlight, the real story is happening in College Station, where we are building something special. As the great oracle Billy Liucci has often pointed out, the Aggies are on the rise, and it's time the media took notice.

The influence of the Longhorns on everything from recruiting to conference realignment has gone too far. While they're busy trying to control the narrative, we're focused on making noise where it really counts—on the gridiron. But you wouldn't know that from reading most media outlets, would you? It's high time the Chronicle started giving credit where it's due and recognized the true football power in Texas—Texas A&M.

And let’s not forget, the Aggie Spirit is something that the sips can never match. Our traditions, like the 12th Man and Midnight Yell, define what it means to be a part of the Aggie family. While the sips might be sipping on their own hype, we’re building a legacy that will stand the test of time. Whoop!

I hope that in the future, the Chronicle will strive for a more balanced coverage of Texas college football. We Aggies deserve to have our voices heard, and we’re not going to sit quietly while t.u. continues to try to overshadow us.

Gig ‘em and Whoop!

Sincerely,

[Your Name]
Proud Texas Aggie

As I watched the ags and Irish slapfight last weekend, I was unfortunately taken back to a dark period for me as a Texas fan. The year was 2016, Texas' 3rd season under Charlie Strong. Texas started that season against a top 10 ND team that I had very little hope we would beat. Behind the arm of Buchelle and the running of Swoopes, Texas pulled off the huge upset. That night, for the first time I heard the phrase that would haunt me for the next several years..."Texas is Back!" As the season wore on, it became apparent that neither the Horns or the Irish were worth a shit and the Horns were in fact "Not Back".

That brings me to last weekend, where the ags lost a close game to the highly ranked Irish. Many ags have taken solace in fact that their team fought hard in Elko's first game, and could've won if they would have caught a few more breaks. My gut tells me that by the end of this season, most will realize that just like in 2016, the Irish are just not very good. Even harder for them to accept will be the fact that they are not very good either, and the Elko experiment may not be working according to plan.

Problem is that Notre Dame's schedule is really soft. Their record will not necessarily be a reflection of how good they are/aren't.

This is true, they could very well make the playoff...and then they will promptly get boat raced in the first round.

Right.  And for the purposes of aggie misery, it's actually good that they think ND is the best team EVAR and their team just barely lost.  It'll make it that much more fun when they're losing to middlin SEC teams later in the season.

Streaming numbers definitely impacted by the 11 million Direct TV subscribers that lost access to all Disney stations due to contract dispute. But as far as aggy shooting themselves in the dick on national TV, the more viewers the better

Aggy on social media sharing a message his Domer friend sent him after the game.  Like clockwork:

I've been to several away games over the years, and can confidently say that the A&M fans were the absolute nicest we've ever ran into. Everywhere we went it was "Howdy, welcome to College Station". They are very proud of their history and story and offered up so much very interesting stories throughout the weekend. We had several drinks bought for us at every bar we went to, even a few from the bartenders! We even went to the Midnight Yell, and were treated with the same hospitality. We were going to be respectful and wear neutral colors, but were encouraged before hand to wear our green and gold. We were welcomed to numerous tailgates and they made us feel at home at each one of them. If you appreciate military history and ever get the chance to visit the campus, I highly recommend it.

You may be onto something.  Maybe CW is a baseball history nut, and thought if Dock Ellis could pitch a no-hitter on acid, then CW could beat the Domers in the same way . . .

Biggest giveaway that the "ags are the nicest fans" note is fake is the last line:  "If you appreciate military history and ever get the chance to visit the campus, I highly recommend it."

So a domer supposedly sends his ag buddy a note that ends with a recommendation that the aggy visit the campus?  Hokay . . .

You're right.  And I hate that.  I am so tired of a season that's just good enough to make the CFP or BCS and then getting boatraced.  I'd rather just play in a decent bowl and look respectable.  But at some point I do think/hope Freeman helps the Irish turn the corner and replicate what hasn't been done since I was 5 in 1988 and win a title.

The rest of the schedule is pretty cake.

  • Northern Illinois (dammit wtf),
  • Purdue (somewhat traditional rivalry, but they suck),
  • Miami.... **ahem** of Ohio (dammit again),
  • Louisville (ACC draw from our tie-in),
  • Stanford (tradtional rivalry unfortunately they are the suck for a long time now),
  • Georgia Tech (ACC),
  • Navy (my favorite rivalry for the traditions of why we do it, but they aren't great),
  • FSU (ACC but LOLOLOLOL),
  • Virginia (ACC)
  • Army (Meh)
  • USC (ok finally something respectable)

It's a one-loss schedule: either lose to USC on the road or beat them and end up choking in another game.

Either way, that's the scenario that sucks.  We finish 11-1 and are in the bottom half of playoff rankings and get beat in the first or second round, badly.

Lose 2 games and there's no way that resume belongs in the playoffs.

Georgia Tech might give them some problems. They seem to be a passable team this year, and I think that may be all it takes to beat them.

Oh it is 100% fake, they have been doing this for decades, back when I was a lazy college student I used to visit so many forums from other teams and I literally caught an exact same post one from a Clemson fan and one from a Tennesse fan in their respective forums writing word for word the exact same post extolling the greatness of Kyle Field and the aggies. These were podunk backwater message boards with three people, so no way it was a Texas troll, why do they do this is a deepseated inferiority complex that would entertain psychologists for centuries.

The letters written by fans visiting us are real though.

REPOST: Rusty's Story
Author: Do it for rusty
Date: 11-27-01 18:26

I had my own horrible experience the last time the Buffs played down in Austin back in '97. Me and the wife and my neighbor and
his wife are great long-time Buff fans and we decided to make the trip down to Austin for the game.

We found Austin nice enough, and looked forward to a great day of tailgating and Big 12 football. We parked the RV together with
a few other CU boosters who had driven down for the game, but mostly surrounded by Horn fans. We got there around 9 a.m. and
broke out the beer and brats, and stoked up the barbecue. I'd brought my mutt Rusty, he was a 9-year-old Golden Retriever, a bit
gimpy from arthritis but friendly as all heck whose favorite thing in the whole world was to go to football tailgaters. I'd dragged that
dog all over the country - to Michigan and Nebraska in '94; to Wisconsin in '95 and never had any bad experience with Rusty - he
was the type of dog that would melt even the hardest Husker, who'd he greet with his favorite whiff frisbee in mouth.

Anyways, we were having a pretty good time at the tailgater, talking it up with other Buff fans and even breaking out some cold
and icy ones for a few Horn fans who stopped by to chat and talk about the big game.

It was mostly friendly stuff, except for one group of Horn fans in an old yellow school bus with back-to-back Longhorn and
Confederate flags who were directly to the right of my RV. From the time they got there, I sensed there was trouble. There was six
or seven of them, two of them apparently female. They were pretty loud and obnoxious from the beginning, blaring out what
sounded like Lynard Skynard or worse. The seemed to have showed up drunk, and were drinking hard liquor, straight from the
bottle. Soon after they got there, Rusty wandered on over and the biggest and meanest looking of the bunch (who they called
Tiny), with a big Longhorn logo tatooed his forehead, starts chasing him off yelling "GET ON OUT HERE YA Gawdang Buffalo
DOG!!!! Except he didn't say "dang". He apparently didn't like the fact that Rusty was wearing his favorite Buffalo doggie sweater.

Anyways, I just gathered up Rusty and we stayed to ourselves with other Buff fans trying to keep as far from trouble as we could.
Pretty soon it was time to go to the game, and I did what I always do with Rusty, I tied his teather to the RV, leaving him a bowl of
water and some food. I've regretted that decision a thousand times since then, even though at the time I'd thought nothing of it.
The trouble makers in the school bus by then were ignoring us, having been joined by other friends, and obviously intoxicated in
the extreme.

Of course we enjoyed the game, what with a Buff win and all, and found DKR to be an impressive stadium, even though the Horn
fans were as placid as Buff fans usually are. As we walked from the stadium after the game and approached the RV I could see
right away that something was wrong. The Buffalo awning attached to the RV and covering the picnic table had been knocked
over. I ran up to the RV calling Rusty’s name and to my horror saw that Rusty wasn’t there. The only thing there was his leash
and empty collar.

I looked frantically around for old Rusty, calling his name and asking anyone who would listen if they’d seen an old Golden
Retriever with a Buffalo sweater. No one had. I was nearly in tears when I heard laughter and barking behind me. I turned around to
again face the Horns on the bus, who by then numbered 10-12 or so. They were laughing, hollering and barking. I gathered my
courage and approached the group. Where’s my dog?? I demanded. All I got back was laughter and barking, and the big ugly one
just took a big bite out the huge Turkey leg he had just grabbed off the barbeque, dripping sauce all over his dirty Ricky Williams
jersey. “We ain’t seen no damn dog,” someone said, provoking more laughter and barking from the group. I was angry as hell,
looking at each of them eye to eye, trying to see in their faces what they might have done with my Rusty.

“Hey mister,” one of them finally said, “you hungry?” “Want something to eat?” I turned to look at the Hornfan minding the grill.
“We were doggone hungry, so we cooked something up!” The whole group burst into howling laughter at that point, more than one
spitting up food or liquor, bowled over and slapping each other on their backs. It was only then I realized where my Rusty had
gone. That wasn’t no turkey leg that Tiny was eating.

“You ate Rusty,” I said to the Horn fans.

Uttering that awful truth only sent the Horns into further laughter, and I did the only thing I could do. I turned around and walked
back to the RV. I told the wife that Rusty was gone and there wasn’t no point in looking for him. She could see I was upset and
started to protest but then looked in my eyes and saw that it was true and that was that.

Ever since that trip to Austin, I havn’t much liked Horn fans. Each Saturday when I hear the Football scores over at Folsom, or on
the radio, I take special pleasure when Texas is at the losing end. In August, I finally got me a new dog, a retriever, just a pup,
who we named Rusty II. He’s a great dog and loves tailgating, though he can never replace old Rusty.

This summer at the new Flatirons Mall, me and the wife ran into a group of CU football players. Marcus was there, and I think that
Joey Johnson kid was too (he’s from Texas). I told them about Rusty and they practically cried. Most of them had dogs as kids,
and didn’t have words bad enough for the kind of fans that would eat dog. I told them that I had moved on, not one to hold grudges
or to be hateful, even for such an awful thing. But I did ask them one thing. When you go into Austin this year, could you do old
Rusty a favor? Beat those Horns. Marcus told me, “we’ll win for Rusty.”

I hope they do too. Damn dog eaters.

So I rewatched it looking for when the meme was shown, it really is as hillarious as you would expect from the gomers.

Second to last play of the game

Aggie down 10, wiggy scrambles and throws a lawn dart 5 yards behind their running back safety valve

Elko screams "run the fucking ball!"

They run it and game ends.

Imagine spending the entire game looking like Homer Simpson, then at the last moment blowing up on your OC on national TV because he did not raise the white flag fast enough. Classic gomers.

Perhaps there was a glitch in the Matrix?

Second to last play of the game,

alternate reality

Aggie down 10, wiggy scrambles and throws a lawn dart 5 yards behind their running back safety valve

CW scrambles, gets out in the open, and throws the ball away to the open spot for the umpteenth time. Unfortunately, it was 5 yards behind the receiver.  Elko has seen enough, and screams at CW, the QB, not Klein, the OC.

Elko screams "run the fucking ball!"

He is yelling at CW, the QB. Meaning, when you have an open field in front of you and the DB's are running away, you CW, the QB, needs to take what they're giving you and run the fucking ball.

The disillusioned Klein, fearful of Elko charging at him like a rabid buffalo, mistakes Elko's "coaching" of CW for a "suggestion" to him that he call a running play on a last gasp 4th and long, which he does.

They run it and game ends.

What military history?

As an aside from aggy's lack of military history, even the ones who do go on to serve take their time in the corps perhaps a bit too seriously. I have an uncle that was a corps of cadets, and went on to serve 26 years in the AF.

This is a comment he made on a FB post regarding the corps:

Stupid aggy. Yeah I appreciate actual military history, but aggy ain't my go-to when I want a fix, for obvious reasons. In Texas, the National Museum of the Pacific War in Fredericksburg is the place to go.

ETA: Some of you probably remember it as the Admiral Nimitz museum. Chester Nimitz was from Fredericksburg and later became a pivotal figure in the War in the Pacific. He didn't attend UT, but in 1985 when the USPS created a stamp in his honor, there was a big ceremony at the old, much smaller museum for the commemoration. The museum's curators needed a color guard to present the colors that day, and they didn't go to the Corps of Cadets. Instead they chose the UT NROTC color guard, of which I happened to be a member at the time, to do the honors. We showed up to a crowd of WW2 Navy and Marine Corps veterans and their families who treated us like rock stars ... despite the fact that none of us had ever done anything remotely meaningful the way they had. We were all just in awe and were honored to be there. Probably the coolest thing I was ever involved with as a Midshipman.

For those that don't know - the national medal of honor museum opens in Arlington next March. I'm looking forward to that.
