Yep. In my drunken exuberance last night, I was having visions of our O-line just slamming his head into the ground, but I guess having the refs watch him like a hawk is a better goal.

I was just thinking of Michael Bennett cheapshotting Colt to knock him out of the game. Aggies believe there are no moral boundaries if they have an opportunity to knock out a UT player.

That was Kellen Heard, although Bennett had a hit nearly as bad. How bad? Franchione phones to apologize later.

Could’ve been worse if the pick six had not been called back 84 yards. The dudes foot was like an eighth of an inch over the line. If the wind had been blowing at him that would’ve been a touchdown.

Like where your head is at.

I'm calling bullshit on this because he failed to factor in how many dipshits lost their rings.

You don't take into consideration all the good ag's who banded together to search and return the lost ring or the ones who donated to the go-fund-me lost ring event.

Where is Graham????????? GRAHAM!!! HELLO!!! We are all waiting with baited breath for your amazing breakdown of this weekend's slate of games.

He posted NOTHING yesterday (which is a first), and this is all he has posted today so far today:

Texas A&M football's loss to South Carolina is the result of this one embarrassing statistic
Texas A&M football just had a seven-game winning streak snapped at the hands of the South Carolina Gamecocks. Though the Ags came in as favorites, they looked like they were far outmatched in the second half.

All this despite the fact that the Aggies nearly took a lead into the second half. Of course, they didn't—and things snowballed from there.

Part of the reason that things snowballed—and part of the reason that things were that close to begin with—was the remarkably poor play by the defensive side of the ball. The Aggies have been very strong in that piece of things this season, which is why it was just so shocking to see the defense routinely play poorly throughout the game.

This statistic from Pro Football Focus really sums up just how badly the Aggies played on defense in this one.

It's no coincidence which two games have the highest numbers there.

The missed tackles were an absolute plague for the Aggies in this game. A&M whiffed far too regularly for a team as skilled as they are, including on what would have been north of five sacks of LaNorris Sellers.

Instead, both Sellers and Rocket Sanders kept getting loose after contact for big gains on the ground. Most of Carolina's rushing yards came after contact, which showed just how different of a game this would have been had the Ags actually finished on their tackles.

The good news is that this is uncharacteristic of the A&M defense. Hopefully, the Ags can have this tightened up for the final three games of the season.

As I recall, Bennett's hit was the one that knocked him out of the game. Regardless, they were dirty motherfuckers and their fans are the shittiest in college sports.

Well, that was not a fun game for Texas A&M football fans.

After getting down early to the Gamecocks, A&M mounted a quick comeback to take the lead, looking as though they would walk into the locker room at halftime with a 3-point margin in their favor. However, with the assistance of some flags, Carolina made it far enough down the field in the remaining time to kick a field goal, tying the game at 20.

From there, just about nothing went right for the Aggies. Fans, who have come to expect strong second halves from the Ags, were dismayed as it was the Gamecocks who rallied for a big final 30 minutes. In the fourth quarter, especially, A&M folded, allowing big play after big play and continually turning the ball over.

So, what can we learn from this game? Let's talk about it.

Texas A&M football still learning to play to the standard
Elko has talked a lot this season about how this is a program that needs to learn how to play to the standard. You're always facing the same nameless, faceless opponent every week, and you therefore need to play to the same level no matter who it is you're actually lining up against.

This did not look like an Aggie team who was playing to that standard. They looked lackadasical on defense for pretty much the entire game (except for a few drives late in the first half), and appeared too much to be waiting around for someone else to get things rolling. No one ever stepped up, though.

This isn't a change in program culture that takes place in one season, so it's a painful object lesson. But hopefully this can spur this team on to greater focus throughout the end of the regular season.

A game lost on the margins does not ruin the season
There were a lot of woeful proclamations following this game—the season is over, our goals are nixed, et cetera. I understand the quick switchup can be destabilizing in a certain sense, but I think that's probably an overreaction.

First of all, this was—by the advanced numbers—a game that ended up as a draw outside of some key plays.

This is no moral victory, of course, as, talent-wise, that game should have been nowhere near a draw, and those key plays are the type that swing every single football game. When all of them go to the opponent, then that's a problem.

But that said, this does not ruin the season outlook going forward. This was a low-end performance for the Aggies and a high-end performance for the Gamecocks. You hope not to see that kind of thing happen to your team, but sometimes it does.

It would be nice to wash this away with an easy victory next week, but the Ags are on their second bye week of the season. We'll have to wait until November 16 to see the Maroon and White play again.

Margin for error is gone
Due to tiebreakers, the Aggies would have only had to win against Carolina and Auburn to guarantee themselves a spot in the SEC championship game. That scenario is now out the window, of course.

However, the Aggies' goals are still ahead of them. If they win these final two conference games, which they are more than capable of doing, they can still make it to Atlanta for the first time since joining the conference.

I'm hoping what we saw this past Saturday was not a team resting on its laurels; it seems like Elko has them coached up better than that. However, if that is indeed what was happening, this was a heck of a wakeup call.

The things this team wants to achieve are all still in front of them. But they need to shape some things up expeditiously, or that window shuts pretty quickly.

"First of all, this was—by the advanced numbers—a game that ended up as a draw outside of some key plays."

how many plays can be "key" plays?

10?

20?

he cites the "net success rate" statistic here:

google ai defines this stat as:

"The success rate is the percentage of successful attempts to complete a task or procedure. In college football, the success rate is calculated by dividing the number of successful tasks by the total number of attempted tasks, and then multiplying by 100.  In football, a play is considered successful if the offense gains a certain percentage of yards towards the next first down:

1st down: 50%
2nd down: 70%
3rd, 4th down: 100%"

He doesn't name any of these "key plays", and doesn't describe much less prove the correlation between this stat which shows gomer as "even" with cock.  This stat also doesn't measure defense AT ALL.

What is the tiebreaker that would have guaranteed them in at a 7-1 conference record with a loss to us? The most likely 3-way tie would be us and the GA/Tenn winner, not sure how they would have been locked in.

Relatedly, a conference that is this big, with no divisions and 8 games is fucking stupid.

Kellen Heard's high school coach told me Heard had the biggest head he'd ever seen. It looked too big even for his 350 lb body. Also found this about his enormous dome

Quote

Biggest helmet size – Kellen Heard, 2010; Kellen Heard has a double XL helmet size.

"Kellen Heard played with the Raiders before he got here and they called me on a Friday saying you just signed this guy that we had and I wanted to give you a heads up. He's a double XL helmet. So we called the company right away and had one sent in special. A double XL today is probably anywhere from 7 ¾ to 8 ¼."

NSR is such an aggy data point.  It's a stat, but not one that explicitly defines victories.   It's a true or false on per play.  A 5 yard gain is seen as just as successful as a 50 yard gain on first down.  Also, a turnover is ranked the same as a 4 yard gain on 1st down?!  More useless stats for the aggy faithful to crank one out to.
