Tell Me About Texas a&m

Remind me

Guessing he’s thinking of Casey Hampton. It’s really close between the two, different positions.  Both amazing resumes, Hampton was on the ballot this year. He has great case to be in eventually.  Kind of similar players in terms of accolades thus far.

I don’t know where I’d rank Mike Evans for A&M NFL players. Vonn Miller probably has a better on the field resume but is a mess off the field.  Myles Garrett will be better individually than both but needs to get out of Cleveland. All three betting favorites for HoF.

Incorrect date aside, I love that they think all of America save Austin hates us.  One of the largest alumni groups in the world -- almost 600,000 still alive -- but yeah, they're all in Austin.

Let that hate eat you up, Aggies.

I was wearing a UT hat on safari in fucking Kenya, and got a hook em from a random stranger at the bar in the lodge where we stayed. This was in about 2004 or 5 (summer before we won the national championship, but after we beat Michigan in the rose bowl.)

Yep, I've traveled all over Europe and had random people flash me the horns if I'm wearing UT gear, including the dad from "Family Ties" at the Tower of London.  That was a surprise.

I don't recall ever hearing the mellifluous siren song of the Aggie; i.e., "whoop!".

Guess who's upset about a rando twitter coach hot seat ranking?  This guy:

SEC Mike has Mike Elko's seat relatively warm headed into second season for Texas A&M football
Texas A&M football fans are unhappy with the way the season ended for the Aggies. After an exciting beginning to the year, the Ags faltered in the home stretch, going 1-4 in their final five games to end at 8-5.

That said, there was a lot of positive change to take away from this season. The offense looked far more innovative, and the personnel was definitely upgraded at several positions.

But I think the abiding feeling that this final stretch left with Texas A&M football fans was one of trepidation. Fans are worried that the Aggies blew their chance after being in the playoff mix late in the season, and with a more difficult schedule coming up next year, there are some who are down on the Aggies' chances.

Even so, I'm not sure there are any rational fans who think Elko should be dismissed next year, barring a complete collapse. That's why this hot seat ranking from SEC Mike was so surprising.

Mike Elko is the only coach on this list with a "2" ranking, putting him just behind a guy like Billy Napier— who many felt was all but out the door earlier this year— and Jeff Lebby, who just went 2-10. Eli Drinkwitz, who Elko's team beat 41-10 earlier this year, only has a 1.

There can be really no other explanation here other than the poor finish to the year. Objective observers of the Aggies can see that A&M is in a much better place right now than they were at the end of the 2023 season, for example, and they are already building a stellar class for 2026.

Elko gets at least 3 years, in my book, and that's if things really go sideways. If he fails to meet expectations consistently, year 4 is where hot seat conversations can really begin to happen. I have Elko as a zero on the hot seat meter here for that reason.

Michael Gross. I have no clue if he has any ties to Texas.

Since we beat Michigan on January 1st, 2005…

…and it was January 2nd, 2005 in Kenya when that Rose Bowl ended…

I am going to guess that this took place in 2005.

Not A&M related but I LOVE seeing Venables listed in a category as "not likely these coaches are still coaching here in 2026" while knowing that OU's broke asses probably STILL won't be able to afford to fire him by then. It warms my heart

TexAgs is powered by angels on Adderall.

"The result was a phenomenal plan that would have positioned Northgate - and College Station - as a year-round entertainment destination, fully embracing and preserving its history."

That must be a new usage of the phrase, "entertainment destination," that I am not familiar with.

That's because you've never torn it up in The Station.

Way back when I was an undergrad, I went to B/CS to visit an aggy friend from HS.  I picked that weekend because he said there was going to be a huge party.  Literally everyone I met there asked me if I was going to go to the party.  When the party finally arrived, it turned out to be about 100 dudes standing in a field around a keg of beer.

No sheep? TURDITION WHOOP!

I would place that expectation/realization at the point on the annual aggy rollercoaster where the car left the tracks.

You ever go watch a parade that had the Shriners driving those go-carts around, or watching midget wrestling?

Same thing.

So, I usually represent the university when I travel as well.

Tokyo and Kyoto in September, Italy last month.

In Japan, I got 3 random, "Go horns" or "Texas!" The Go Horns sounded a bit like... Go Holns. [no racist]

In Italy, there were about 10 shout outs. Including a couple in the Castel San Angelo.

I found that if you do not throw out the "Ugly American" vibe and try to blend into the culture, there are some incredible people willing to help, give information and throw back some drinks with you.

Herbstreit (DoucheWaffle) throwing aggy under the bus...

Herbstreit received some backlash for stating that perhaps other teams should have gotten into the playoff over Indiana after the Hoosiers were blown out by Notre Dame in the first round of the CFP. But that was simply his opinion that other teams were better.

“Let me straighten the record on one last thing,” Kirk Herbstreit said. “You know, ESPN loves the SEC so much, that we could not have paid for a better Final 4, with Notre Dame and Ohio State and Penn State and Texas. The only one missing is Michigan, if you could somehow wedge Michigan in.

“So like, this idea that we want Alabama and Texas A&M and Auburn, are you kidding me? Like if you’re asking us who we would want, uh, we’ll take Ohio State every year, Notre Dame. Like this is a ratings bonanza.”

Make even a small effort to learn a little of their language, and citizens of other countries warm up to you in a flash. In Italy, I had English speaking Italians insisting on continuing in Italian in the friendliest way possible. I loved Italy and the Italians.

One can imagine and has probably seen an Aggie decked out head to toe in maroon trying to explain to a bored and annoyed waiter about A&M in loud, exaggerated Texas yokel English.

You understand? Tex-as. From Tex-as. Whoop!

No me importa.

Yes. Most important college in Tex-as. Honey, he understands!

Oh, he understands all right.

Same.  All over Europe, the Middle East, Canada, pretty much everywhere I'll get some "Hook Ems" or "Go Horns" if I'm wearing a Horns t-shirt or hat.   I've sat next to people on trains in Spain and in hotel bars in Hungary and find out they are also Texas-Exes.  And yes, if you make a half-assed attempt to speak a few phrases and not be an asshole, most place people are going to be nice to you.  Even in France.

This past summer was a roller coaster for Texas A&M baseball fans. After faltering late in the regular season, the Aggies ripped off an unbelievable NCAA tournament run, going undefeated in the playoffs all the way to the College World Series final.

What happened there, though, is a sore subject. The Ags, despite going up one game to zero in the best-of-three series, stumbled in the final two games— they simply didn't look like the same team. Tennessee, their opponent, emerged victorious and the Aggies went home as runners-up.

The following events are where things really went awry. A mere matter of hours after returning from the College World Series, where he berated a reporter for asking him about this very thing, Texas A&M baseball coach Jim Schlossnagle left for a position at Texas.

That's a betrayal if there ever was one. Things looked dark for Aggie fans for a brief period, as most star players entered the transfer portal.

------------------------------------------

Short editorial reminder:

image.jpeg.f056b60bf0192b022feace43de1e0ef2.jpeg

------------------------------------------
But then, with the return of Mike Earley— who had been the Aggies' hitting coach and was beloved by the players— things began to turn around. Every single player withdrew their name from the portal. In fact, the Aggies actually assembled one of the most impressive portal classes in the nation, adding elite name after elite name.

Now, the Ags are in a prime position to make another run at the College World Series title. In fact, they're ranked as the number one team in the nation going into the season. But even though they're favorites, they still have some scores to settle.

First of all, the Ags have to exact revenge on the Tennessee Volunteers. That will be no small task, as Tony Vitello has the Vols rolling, but the Ags haven't forgotten how that team conducted itself in the CWS.

Then, there's the obvious. One of the biggest matchups in recent college baseball history will come to a head when the Aggies travel down to the Longhorns' dump of a field to mete out some justice on their sorry program. One of the most low-rent, low-class, dishonorable moves in coaching history— and that's quite a laundry list that you have to go through— will receive its comeuppance on that day.

The eyes of the nation will be on the Aggies this year. And we wouldn't have it any other way.
