Aggie on aggy violence? Is that like domestic violence?

NMSU is the special, harmless boy next door. No one (except UNM) has a problem with NMSU guys. They rose up in the 80s and had some decent basketball teams that beat Tarkanian’s Runnin’ Rebs a couple of times, and had a decent football team under Kill, that beat Auburn. That’s about the extent of their sports history.

Taking one game out of a 3 game series is not remarkable.  Except for the idiotic TAMU expectations, bravado, and general idiocy. In that context, it’s delicious. I can’t imagine that any Aggie, no matter how delusional, is still holding on to the “Earley was the brains behind the CWS run” idiocy.  He really may not last the season.

Are they still on pace for eight of their starting 9 to hit double-digit homers?

On balance, the team is a bit behind their lofty goals of 150+ HR on the season, having hit 22 HR in 15 games to date.  Assuming another run to the final game in Omaha (~ 68 game season), that extrapolates to approximately 100 HR for the season.  Surely they can make up that 50 HR deficit over the remaining 53 games, as they'll only need to average 2.4 HR per game.  This is an ever so slight bump over their current 1.5 HR per game pace.  Oh, in conference play.

Missed it by "that" much.

Preseason No. 1 Texas A&M appeared to have the perfect get-right opportunity in its final week of non-conference play. The Aggies played five home games against mid-majors, including three against New Mexico State, who BA picked to finish eighth in the 10-team Conference USA. But Texas A&M won just three of those contests, improving its record to an uninspiring 9-6. There were still several encouraging individual performances for the Aggies. Junior shortstop Kaeden Kent went 7-for-20 with three doubles, a triple, two home runs and nine RBIs, true freshman outfielder Terrence Kiel II recorded eight hits including three doubles and senior lefty Ryan Prager spun seven shutout innings. As they desperately search for the form many expected of them in the preseason, the Aggies are set to take on Prairie View A&M before hosting No. 16 Alabama to open SEC play.

For all the fanfare this Texas A&M baseball team got coming into the season, they sure did not cut the profile of the number one team in the country in many of their early contests. The only time this looked like a championship squad was when they dug deep to find a way to win against Elon in the late innings, and blowing the Phoenix out of the water in the second game of that series.

Since then, things have just looked way too hard for the Aggies, particularly at the plate. This has been pretty surprising, given the firepower the Aggies bring with their bats. There's a lot of proven hitting in this lineup, so the Aggies putting up underwhelming numbers on offense so often has been a head-scratcher.

A changeup was needed. And the man to spark that changeup is the one who dons the number 12 jersey this season.

I know, I know. How much can you really put into something like this?

But is it any coincidence that the Aggies go out and have what is, by far, their best game of the year immediately after?

[BV note:  Apparently, it is.]

The Texas A&M Aggies completely throttled the New Mexico State Aggies in the first of a three-game series tonight, winning 19-0 in seven innings. This not only was a compete detonation by the offense, but it marked a complete game shutout for Ryan Prager, who also recorded his 200th career strikeout in the game.

Baseball is a game where mentality is hugely important, maybe more so than any other sport. So as silly as it is, maybe the changeup from something like team members shaving their heads to switch the momentum can actually have an effect.

It's not like they're becoming better players simply because they cut their hair; rather, a symbolic act like that can unlock what we know has been there this whole time. Here's hoping this trend of offensive excellence continues on from this spot— this Aggie team is only getting healthier, after all, so it's time to kick things into gear with conference play approaching.

They didn't lose, they just ran out of wind?

Are they seriously blaming the wind for losing? Does the wind only blow when they are at bat? Even the weather is against them?

Jimbo's $7.2M annual payments go through March 2031. Elko's contract pays him $7.0M annually and goes through January 2030.

Based on early returns, I think the good money is on them having to pay 3 different head coaches for at least a year or two.
