That'll be $9.95, please

Be fair, their D did score 6 points against us last fall.

aggy coaster starting up early.

"Hey, guys, we just went 8-5 with the best roster and easiest schedule we're ever gonna have, and we're looking to build on that with some more good news.  Now our receivers look like they might not be as bad, and that was against our own vaunted secondary, which has a chance to be average, with scripted plays, and limited contact.  The sleeping giant is waking up this year.  Please buy a subscription."

Only sure dub I see on this schedule is Samford.

Somebody remind Bucky to root for aggy that day. Furk

Bucky McMillan assembling formidable recruiting staff in College Station with addition of Frank Haith to Texas A&M
Bucky McMillan looked at first to some Texas A&M basketball fans as though he was a second choice. The Aggies made a big swing when they pursued Chris Beard from Ole Miss, and when that didn't pan out, they pivoted to McMillan pretty quickly.

While McMillan wasn't the guy at the very top of the list, though, Aggie fans are really bought into what he's doing thus far, such that many fans may already be unwilling to swap him for a guy like Beard. Not only has he energized the fanbase with his infectious personality, but he has the Aggies right in the middle of some extremely high-profile recruitments.

As McMillan continues to build this Aggie roster from the ground up— in case you weren't aware, the Aggies had all of one player on the roster when he took the job— he has assembled quite the staff in order to help him do so. The latest addition to that staff is former Aggie assistant Frank Haith, who comes to Aggieland from Austin.

(BV editorial note: HMMM..."Austin?")

image.png
Haith is known as an elite recruiter, being responsible for snagging the commitments of players like LaMarcus Aldridge. He has SEC experience, formerly being the head coach at Missouri from the 2012 to the 2014 seasons.

He ended up resigning from both there and his tenure at Miami (FL) amidst NCAA investigations for recruiting violations, but the practices of which he was accused are now all but legal in this massively changed landscape of collegiate sports.

His reputation as an ace recruiter will help the Aggies massively as they attempt to flip this roster and remain competitive in an SEC that suddenly finds itself in a basketball arms race. The Ags can't get left behind, but after losing so many seniors and undergoing a coaching change, that's a big ask. McMillan has handled all of the pressure well so far, though, which is more than encouraging.

Texas A&M football held their annual Maroon and White spring game this past Saturday, and fans by and large were generally satisfied. There was a lot of dominance along the defensive line, as only one projected starter was logging major minutes on either OL, but other than that, there were quite a few nice moments from the game.

One thing you can safely count on, though, is that someone will come away from a spring game like this with an opinion that will have other fans throwing their hands up in the air. And true to form, that's what we got out of this year's edition as well.

It wasn't the greatest day we've seen out of Marcel Reed in Kyle this past Saturday, but he was by no means bad. However, ever since the New Mexico State game this past fall, there has been a seed germinating in the minds of a certain section of the fanbase— one that began to be expressed when Reed didn't look like a world-beater in Saturday's game.

image.png.95e84017cee7d988c39e4fc085a1eb34.png

Look, I'm as high on Miles O'Neill as anyone. I loved what I saw out of him on Saturday, and he looked impressive against NMSU. His physical talents are clear, and his future is bright as an Aggie.

But we need to pump the brakes here a little bit.

Reed's dynamic run ability adds a dimension to the offense that O'Neill doesn't have. And while the size and arm strength that Miles boasts outclasses Reed overall, Marcel is actually not that far off when it comes to his ability to sling it.

It wasn't too long ago that one of the big concerns with Reed was the fact that he was drilling his passes into receivers at too high a rate of speed. He's gotten better at throwing with touch, as his overall game really improved by leaps and bounds down the stretch of last year.

The size could be an issue with regards to durability and consistent accuracy, as he needs to generate power in a way that won't make his pass spread look like it's all over the place. But in that respect, too, he came pretty far in the last part of 2024.

The consistency factor for the team, too, should not be overlooked. Reed's experience isn't massive, but this team has gone years and years without an adequate amount of experience at signal caller. I think Aggie fans everywhere are ready for that to change and for A&M to finally boast a seasoned vet in the pocket.

I was not for starting Marcel over Weigman at first last year, but it became clear he was the right choice. Just because that happened last year doesn't mean it needs to happen this year. Marcel is the starter and he needs to be the starter. If something happens, it happens— but for now, there's no need at all to rock the boat.

Wow, sounds like aggy is as fucked at QB, as Graham is at reporting it. Trying to tamp down the usual aggy fan overconfidence in the backup QB - "has the potential to be a top 3 QB in CFB" while at the same time damning with faint praise the starting QB. Yep, sounds like it might be another long and interesting season for aggy.

Their starting, Next-Up-Heisman QB was down 9-0 at halftime to the second string.

Nah, man.  The next-up-Heisman dude is the backup QB. Or the next recruit. Both of those guys are definitely better than Arch. Just wait and see.

Good point. Their quarterback room is deeper. Just like they said it was last year.
