Stoops would've been a good, safe hire. Not the "splash" Bjork promised when this fiasco began.

Now they're furked

We can make fun of the Stoops family all we want but that dude has won, on the regular, in football, at Kentucky, in the SEC. Aggy has done far worse than Mark Stoops.

They’re about to do way worse. No coach with options will choose aggy. It is now only viewed as a career ending golden parachute retirement plan.

Jimbo sucked ‘em dry. Now it’s incentive based with a poor assistant salary pool. E-Rob it is.

We are soooooo close to Ag Head Coach Bobby Petrino.

Given his experience, the fact that he's already on staff, and their situation with the search following the Stoops debacle, this probably makes the most sense for them while they fire Bjork and bring in a new AD who can run a proper search next time if needed.

However, they've now floated Robinson to FTHC so much and gotten recruits and players excited about it, so I don't think Petrino is a realistic option if they choose to promote from within.

Aggies were so excited when they hired Jimbo. Which is reasonable. They thought they had purchased a handful of championships over the next 10-15 years. That day was the high water mark of their program. Most of their fans want that feeling today. I don’t think there is a coach available today to match that feeling unless they offered 20m/year.

theyre not going to be satisfied with anyone. It’s why they should be looking for a top level coordinator to set the bar low.

aggy should sever all ties with Liucci and run him out of town with Bjork.

It would be good for them to nuke Looch but please keep him on for pure entertainment. Which other program essentially has a board owner with this much inside influence...and nothing stays secret. What a cesspool. Their whole AD needs to be burned down and rebuilt with actual professionals.

OMG in the SEC?!? He most be a god!

Jesus Christ I'm already sick of the SEC knob slobbing. He coaches in the SEC East! His schedule is easier than a Big 12 schedule every year for fuck's sake. Gary fucking Pinkel waltzed into the SEC East with a mediocre Big 12 roster and won the division twice. Stoops was there for 5 years before Smart got Georgia really rolling. Fuck outta here with that shit.

STFU bitch, he has won 10 games twice at Kentucky in his time there. I get your point, SEC is overrated in many ways but don't let that get in the way of clear thinking. He is far and away a more proven coach than what they deserve. We fucking hired Tom Herman from Houston who won a bunch of games in that big bad conference they were in. What conference was that BTW?

Are you really comparing the Kentucky job to the Georgia job? I'm speachless on that.

It is quite tasty that they fired Jimbo without a bonafide plan in place. There’s no way Mark Stoops was who they had in mind when they fired Jimbo and they couldn’t even get that done.

Who knows where they go from here.

of course they didn't have a plan.  This was all a knee jerk reaction to the fact that big brother is showing up to the house next year and actually might have his shit together.  Everything they do is in a response to Texas.

It’s aggy—they told potential candidates they had to keep Robinson. What coach wants to walk into a situation where he’s being told he has to keep certain members of the staff and not build his own staff, one who he is personally comfortable with and believes gives him the best chance to be successful?

It’s like the idiots who were saying whoever we hired for basketball should keep Terry as an assistant. What big time coach would agree to being told what to do with their staff?

Robinson would accept the job with those types of conditions because he’s never been a HC before and maybe wants the opportunity. I don’t think he’s even been a coordinator.

This is a shit show, and I’m warming up some of my mom’s pecan pie from turkey day and will be eating that while following along 😎

You bring up a great point. One of the toughest things about being a head coach is keeping control of the program. Everybody involved in these programs is an alpha personality. All the players, all the BMDs, and most of the coordinators and assistant coaches have a Jerry Jones fantasy, where they're calling the shots. One of Saban's strengths is he can tell people to sit their asses down and start rowing with the rest of the team and make it stick. One of the reasons it's hard to find a good fit for Texas is that the higher the program profile, the more powerful the power players.

Aranda has the look of a man that just figured out Waco is Stephen King’s version of Derry, Maine. Traylor won’t head there. Maybe UofH since in the past it’s been a stepping stone. But I wonder if schools looking to pull the trigger on firing their coach and making a hire before December 4th decided not to after seeing the fallout from this.

Nah, Aranda has the look of Dustin Hoffman in Rain Man. His problem is he is a beta personality in an alpha world. Baylor's doing everything they can to protect him, but he's the classical "paralysis by analysis" guy. There's a power vacuum at the head coach level, so the program is rudderless. Baylor can't keep Aranda at this point, cause as long as he's there, every season will be like this season, and the B12 is now the AAC-MWC. Rhule took the job cause Baylor was a P5 stepping stone. Dittos for Briles. That advantage doesn't exist anymore. You're right on Traylor, cause Baylor isn't a step up from UTSA now.

A&M creates their own worst nightmares. This is where paying millions in NIL (and some under the table) to most of their players can bite them in the ass. If the players don’t like the hire, they revolt and threaten to transfer, the big money guys get upset for paying for nothing, and then the admin kill the deal with egg on everyone.

Dan Quinn would be the best possible hire for them. His name has cache from what the Cowboys D has been doing.  He's not too old and still seems energetic. Has a plethora of NFL coaching connections he could tap to hire a great staff, probably take one of Shanahan's guys for OC (Kubiag jr?).
