I went to HS with a guy who joined the corps turds in '79. He told me about beating cadets with an ax handle. They would take cadets in the woods and either tie them to a tree or a group would hold thm against one, then strip them and beat their ass with it.

@aggypedia this is new canon

steam showers and axe handles...... ?

What cracks me up most about that is the gomer doesnt even try to mitigate matters by saying "it sounds much more unseemly than it was". Nope. His closing thoughts are "thank god there were no cameras around"

Who knew that axe handles = aggy sharpie.

I thought they capped their payment at $50k each, but it turns out the families sued and got a little more:

https://www.nbcnews.com/news/amp/wbna27422100

What is $2.1 M, less attorney fees, divided by 12?

I’m pretty sure the Ags paid more for the memorial to the collapse.

Doesn’t sound like all the 12 families sued, but some of the injured students and construction workers were also part of the suit.

$2.1 million for all those poor families. That’s it? WTH?

Maybe they should thrown in a buffet lunch at a restaurant of their choice.

I’m truly shocked.

$2.1 million minus 40% for attorney's fees comes out to $1,260,000 total or $105,000 per family. That's just... Wow

You’re shocked that aggies are pieces of shit? They went to a piece of shit school and they’re constantly bleating about stupid shit. Of course they’re pieces of shit.

You don’t hear about things like attacking a cheerleader with a sword at other schools. You don’t hear about things like throwing horse shit into the opponent’s band at other schools. You don’t hear about things like the yell practice, twirling binoculars, and goalpost incident involving other schools. You don’t hear about things like the catfish stink bait bus trashing incident (hoax) involving other schools.

Besides, how can Texas A&M give families money when they dedicate it all to things like exorbitant guaranteed contracts to shitty coaches no other school wants? Texas A&M sucks.

I’ve heard about the flinging horse shit onto our band, and attacking other cheerleaders. That seems like semi-normal terrible behavior from Aggy and other schools. But I had never heard about fighting the payout to the families and how low it ultimately was, and I am truly shocked. I have no words. There is no other precedent for this. This pretty much completes it as the worst event at a university, outside of the mass shooting at Virginia Tech, and that wasn’t the direct fault of the school policies, but rather some nut-job foreign exchange student. Unbelievable and for once. I’m not making fun of it.

I keep coming back to- how can they be so cheap with the victims’ families, and then build a memorial to the victims? I can get the idea that they  are supposed to be tight fisted with the university funding; but then to spend on a “look at me and how special I am” display? It’s like they really don’t care about anything substantive, and only the window dressing.

When I googled "aggie axe handle" it took me here

https://old.reddit.com/r/aggies/comments/n8p450/yes_boys_and_girls_those_are_axe_handles_fun_from/

Most of the comments are aggiespeak, of course. I'm not brave enough to ask google about the steam showers.

I was thinking that it was some sort of homoerotic locker room thing, but the truth is actually even better. It looks like these guys are playing fake war, but their "weapons" are axe handles that they just use to push each other around and defend their "honor". Just wait until they call in the couch pillow airstrike.

Hopefully no SMU cheerleaders hear about that and ambush them

Plaintiffs’s lawyer must have honed his litigation skills at that bastion of legal education, the Texas A & M School of Law.

Sources: Texas A&M set to nab James Madison defensive coordinator

John Brice      Jan 22, 2025

Lyle Hemphill is poised to return to work with Mike Elko.

Sources tell FootballScoop that Hemphill, who spent the 2024 season as James Madison's defensive coordinator and nickels coach, is the frontrunner to join Mike Elko's staff.

Sources told FootballScoop Tuesday afternoon that Hemphill had formally resigned his position at James Madison.

Prior to this past year at JMU, Hemphill spent the 2022-23 seasons as co-defensive coordinator at Duke.

He also had an extended ACC run under Dave Clawson at Wake Forest from 2017-21.

Hemphill is a former collegiate football player and wrestler at Ursinus College.

I haven’t seen this in years, it’s never not funny. I’m visiting Houston dealing with serious family issues and I was laughing so hard I may have made a scene. Much appreciated.
