One of my all-time favorites that never shows up in any of the aggy versions of SEC history.

The SEC approached Deloss about becoming conference commissions shortly after Texas turned down the SEC for membership.

I'm trying to find more info on the story surrounding the SEC's failed attempt to get Texas to join. Its not a well-documented story.

One aspect of that chapter is the decades of animosity Arky felt toward TCU (no, it wasn't animosity with Texas that caused Arky to bolt).

There are several news articles from around the time piggy left floating around.  Army and the SEC was expecting Texas to follow Arkansas a year or two later, but Texas backed out and the B12 was formed shortly after...  After Texas didn't take the spot, aggy went into full "aggy puts out" mode begging for that invite and didn't stop until -finally....

If we believe Paul Finebaum, Texas was the first choice, not a secondary consideration after Arky had already jumped. From the East, Vince Dooley wanted Ga Tech, and Florida officials were pushing for either Miami or FSU.

aggy got wind of the fact they were about to be abandoned by Texas and they cried like little children (1988). Arky stepped in after Texas made it clear they weren't moving. Arky didn't join until July 1990.

Harvey Schiller was the one who wanted Texas. Also, after Schiller left as conference commissioner (1989), Deloss was the first choice as SEC commissioner. Deloss turned that down, and Kramer was hired (1990).

In his first big action was commissioner, Kramer botches FSU negotiations and they fall apart. A few weeks after Arky joins, So. Carolina ends independent status to affiliate with the SEC as the 12th team.

What I find interesting is that Georgia administrators evidently wanted Ga Tech, and Florida admins wanted either FSU or Miami. The aggys tell a fairy tale of the SEC schools all having "an in-state veto" to keep other in-state schools out of the conference. In reality (evidently for recruiting parity reasons) the SEC schools actually wanted the other major in-state schools in the same conference. So yet again we find aggy has it completely backwards. Quelle surprise.

Maybe-- just maybe-- he's finally been blackpilled on A&M. He's certainly made his share of really stupid, credulous pro-A&M picks over the years and looked reliably dumb living with the consequences.

Fuck Herbstreet, but fuck Chris Fowler too.

THE TEXAS A&M BOARD OF REGENTS

The members of the Board of Regents at The Texas A&M University System cannot remain silent or inactive after recent social media posts and actions by faculty members who should be held to the highest standard of our core values.

First and foremost, the board respects and celebrates the constitutional right to free speech. We also believe that free speech can – and should – incorporate decency, respect and a good amount of listening.

We have not seen enough civil discourse around campus lately. To that end, the board strongly condemns the recent vulgar, disrespectful and divisive language of a few members of the faculty at the flagship university in Bryan-College Station. We expect – and know – our faculty to be among the best in the nation and to exercise the academic freedom that comes with being a member of this great university. That freedom, however, does not include speech that is full of hate and serves to destroy our campus community. Aggies should not tolerate such divisive behavior, and we should hold each other accountable to preserve the spirit that generations of Aggies have forged for us.

Our issue is not with debate. In fact, we welcome it. Our issue also is not with academic freedom. It is of paramount importance to the board. Further, we also do not oppose peaceful protests. We want everyone to be heard.

As Aggies, we lead by example. The board believes that we can show other universities how to engage civilly, appropriately and with mutual respect.

All we ask – actually insist upon – is a dialogue that is productive, thoughtful and consistent with our core values of Excellence, Integrity, Leadership, Loyalty, Respect and Selfless Service.

Rick Perry is going to have to invite the aggy Regents over to Niggerhead to discuss how to handle the liberal arts professors. The regents should probably send the uppity professors back through Fish Camp to be re-indoctrinated. This unapproved speech problem has got to come to an end. It's un-aggylike.

What the faculty in question say/tweet/post?

Also, subtle clue as to their dumbass cult thinking.  The board of Regents of the A&M System should never refer to themselves "As Aggies, we lead by example."  You're not Aggies, you're the A&M System Board of Regents.  You're not Islanders, you're not Panthers, you're not Buffs, you're just supposed to be the System Regents.  But you guys can't get out of your echo chamber.  That small thinking says a lot about you.

To be honest, they also misspelled aggy.

So the board sided with the racist alumni?

I think this is a separate issue, though involving some of the same parties. There is a professor there who has been posting really vile things on social media directed at certain political foes and religious people/religions. Whatever your political/religious stripes, posting hateful things about people while using your own name reflects back negatively on your employer. I doubt this goes any farther than that “reprimand-“

If A&M wasn’t run primarily as a cultural indoctrination center and an academic institution only as an afterthought, A&M would be able to attract professors who weren’t complete clowns.

There is a cost to the idiocy known as “aggy.” Sometimes in human lives, sometimes in dollars, sometimes in the respect of others.

The A&M board is just paying the cost of the cultural freak show they have chosen.

Fuck ‘em.

The people of Texas deserve better than Texas A&M.

aggy is going to hate this. People of color speaking truths of aggy "history."

There will probably be a lynching on the aggy campus soon because "those people" aren't perpetuating the aggy fake army fairy tale that A&M had more officers in WWII than West Point and Annapolis combined.

A Texas A&M professor was charged with conspiracy, making false statements and wire fraud on allegations that he was secretly collaborating with the Chinese government while conducting research for NASA, the Department of Justice said Monday.

According to a criminal complaint, Zhengdong Cheng, 53, a professor in the College of Engineering at Texas A&M and a NASA researcher, obscured his affiliations and collaboration with a Chinese university and at least one Chinese-owned company.

"No one in higher education takes security as seriously as we do at The Texas A&M University System."  And yet it took the FBI to catch on to him.  Sharp isn't even a decent liar.

They take it as seriously as they take student safety.

I lol'ed as soon as the title loaded. Also:

Because with the exception of like 8 seasons out of the last 100, we ****ing suck at football.

You should have been around for RCs run in the 90s . Only lost 4 games at Kyle during the 90s . Best winning % in SWC history. 4 conference championships, and top 10 defenses

Yes. A decade that saw them win an Alamo Bowl and a Holiday bowl. And no, I'm not just listing their best 2 bowl wins - I'm listing their 2 bowl wins.

But of course aggy will self-mythologize and say things like "You should have been around when we were cheating so egregiously that we almost got the death penalty and despite our rampant cheating never lost less than 2 games in a season or won a relevant bowl game. Yeah, you had to be there!"

And what the fuck does "best win% in SWC history" even mean? What horrible, convoluted statistic that probably wasn't accurate on its inception is he referring to?

Forced to acknowledge just one thing Texas A&M does well, Texans often point to the veterinary medicine program, but even that program failed the people of Texas so badly, Texas Tech had to step in to clean up the mess John Sharp and aggy ineptitude created.

I've often said the people of Texas deserve better than Texan A&M. Because it's true.

Someone needs to let the people of Texas A&M in on the joke and explain when Texans use the phrase "aggy excellence" it doesn't mean what aggys think it means.

How could this not be more efficient if run as an aggy-centric blog promoting specific GoFundMe campaigns?

Why does this idea need a centralized administrative structure or a formalized dues-paying membership list? Let the people vote directly with their dollars on which "students have demonstrated and proven a commitment to leadership in any facet of their life and by doing so made A&M and or College Station a better place."

Admin costs will exceed revenues, leaving nothing for their "beneficiaries," but then that pretty much sums up the operating model of Texas A&M. In their little aggy minds, every idea needs an aggy-esque approach. Which is why companies looking for intellectual capital don't look toward Bryan/ College Station, Texas.
