I don't think Day will go to Chicago this offseason but his and Riley's career arc will be fun to watch over the next 10 years. They both inherited very specific cultures, talented rosters, and enough potential to continue to recruit at a high level.

It took Riley 5 years, but through a series of questionable hires and diminishing results, he tanked the culture and left behind a roster in shambles.

Day just finished year 4 where his major accomplishments were demoting his DC midseason, getting smoked in the only game that matters for them, and nearly losing his bowl game to a team full of try hard 3 stars. Maybe even worse, fOSU has 16 5*s currently on the roster, one less than Utah has 4*s.

I think both Day and Riley lack the requisite head coaching skills of culture/roster management that contributes so significantly to the long term prospectus for teams they inherited. Riley bolted - what will Day do?

well we did the Todd Orlando experience one extra year when it was obvious he needed to go.

something could change but I doubt it at this point.  only hope is some who knows what the fuck they are doing against big 12 offenses gets on the support staff to help.

we are drawing to an inside straight for next year on D.

Perhaps they're waiting on GP to make a decision before making changes to the defensive coaches? It would make sense if they offered Fat Gare a "CEO of the Defense" type position where he would be allowed to pick the DC and defensive staff.

I suppose it is possible.  usually if you are going to let a guy go you do it early enough that he can try to find a landing spot(if that is what he wants) but I admit this carousel is different than normal and the early sign date and portal craziness adds to that.

I think I'm going with occam's razor that Sark, like almost all coaches unfortunately, craves consistency, but likely put PK on notice and told PK we may bring GP because you fucked it up so bad, people wanted you fired.   PK can then walk or stay under the new "org".  This assumes the heavy smoke around GP is correct of course.

I really hope Sark understands he gets one fucking shot at this and the recruiting class is where it is, MAINLY because they had some fortunate coaching changes and very timely NIL anouncements, NOT because of the shit his staff put on the field last season.  The Bama shine will wear off quick as well.

We literally JUST got compliance’s grubby little hands out of NIL. I cannot imagine the hellfire that creating an “off-field” coaching + administrative swagger role would bring on Football. Not criticizing the idea, btw. Just you.

No no no, Day was grooming himself for the YOUNG BEARS position, which is where he mentors overweight, hirsute young minors into adulthood.

With the kind of scratch Day makes, one would think he'd ditch the Just For Men and get a high end salon job that looks more natural.

Broncos only makes sense if they can find a QB.

Even if the Broncos snagged a qb,I don't see it happening. Having an imbecile like John Elway as a boss would turn Harbaugh into a guy who'd kill at least 5 hookers.

They are going to add Patterson in an advisory role and then when PK fucks up they will fire him and replace him with Patterson. The ol’ Greg Robinson move.

If they were going to add Patterson,  why are they waiting?

Maybe what CTG was saying about CDC wanting Patterson and Sark not particularly wanting him?

Kelly is making some weird decisions with this LSU staff.

Expand

LSU will find out what Texas found out  about 10 years ago. When you are down and the schools come into your state and start taking the top talent, the journey back to the top gets so much harder. Kelly isn't a guy that will overcome these early missteps with a huge personality and an amazing vision that people instantly buy into. He is a known asshole that is going to have to prove it.

I'm not out on Day yet - but the leash at tOSU is shorter than anywhere else outside the SEC. They deserve credit for that RB win - even though their defense looked about as bad as it has all season. That was a good Utah team that twice pounded a team that beat tOSU in Columbus.

They looked very good at times this year with a freshman QB. The defense needs work but I think it's early to say that it's beyond repair.

Beating Michigan every year just isn't realistic - no matter what kind of ridiculous run they had - and neither is winning the B10 every season. I'm not sure tOSU fans will happily come to terms with that but they should.

tOSU will reload and kick the shit out of a bunch of teams on their schedule next year like they always do. If they drop a couple outside of that then the seat will start getting warm for Day. If they keep it to one loss then they probably make the playoff again with another chance to win a title.

All that said - Day to the NFL seems like a possibility. I seriously doubt he pulls a LR or Kelly, though.

Kelly is cleaning house to build it up his own way. Interestingly Tiger Droppings is happy about this one.

Wouldn't be surprised to see him back at A&M to replace Malchow

Yeah, that's where I'm at.

Kelly is a much better coach than this board gives credit for but these are some puzzling decisions. Throw in the fact that two morons, in Miles and Ed O, could win there it's kind of fascinating to see how this works out.

The weird thing with Kelly so far is I don't get the vibe he's really committed to the bag game which seems like an odd fit at LSU. Maybe they are pivoting to NIL?

Doubtful, I am sure some of the boosters are tapped out paying his salary. The casino chips thing is genius and if he willingly goes away from that then he is an even bigger idiot than we thought.

I think Kelly is a good coach, but I also believe that a big part of coaching success is picking the right job. Urban Meyer talked about that when he chose Florida over ND. Give Kelly 5 years and he will field a good team, but if you start out and put yourself in a hole, you may not get the time to climb out of that hole. I think there is a chance that happens at LSU, despite Kelly being a good coach.

In addition to being an asshole I just think he comes across as a disengenuous carpetbagger, and I suspect a lot of recruits and their families will think so too and go elsewhere.

that is the risk for him. Have a couple down years and the media turns on you. It isnt 1950, where you can have some losing seasons and recover. In a recruiting world dominated by social media and national recruiting, the vultures will circle and pick the carcass of Louisiana
