BC is a fucking clown. I imagine you only suggested him as bait/satire but with how bad some of the takes are on this site lately its hard to tell. That whiny bitch can stay in Fort Worth with his growing collection of cactus and the corpse of his wife's dreams of stardom.

Tech fans hate BC now...

After Texas Tech Athletics officials and supporters on Monday announced a Name, Image and Likeness deal through the Matador Club, pledging $25,000 contracts for 100 Texas Tech football players, TCU recruiting coordinator and offensive analyst, Bryan Carrington, posted a tweet calling out Texas Tech for "attempting to 'build their a brand' in a desert."

This comment prompted prominent Texas Tech and Lubbock figures such as President Lawrence Schovanec and Patrick Mahomes II, the star quarterback for the Kansas Chiefs and former Texas Tech standout, to take to social media in response, many using images of cacti to "own" the desert dig.

It even prompted some Red Raider fans to update their social media profiles to include the cacti emoji to show their support for Texas Tech.

Several Lubbock area spirit shops told the Avalanche-Journal they're looking into opportunities to create cacti apparel.

Ears to the Ground:  "Catapult is a scouting service that sells recruiting lists and scouting reports to colleges. He'll likely be scouting the state for them."

This doesn't sound like a promotion.

Left to spend more time with his kids - and probably a raise.  I imagine this is the kind of thing where he makes his own schedule. No more long nights staying up at the school until 2am on recruiting weekends.

Odd description and tweets, I thought Catapult was a wearable technology company (those odd looking vests and such during training). I'd think he'd be recruiting schools/trainers more than scouting/recruiting players.

Roach is underselling Catapult a little bit - they're not just a 'scouting service' - they have a whole host of services/products (the wearable tech you mentioned) they sell to the NFL, NBA, College Football, the Premier League and others.

Plus, I'm sure a wearable tech company and scouting platform may pay slightly better than a public university support staff.

better pay + better work/life balance + staying in Austin is a nice combo.

Wonder which assistants are upstairs during the games in 2022 ??

Thanks for finding this tweet @OB3

Phatterson was also on the sideline too.

And good. PK needs to be on the sideline with all the coaches. No cushy A/C for you, PK!

IT:  "We saw some questions about Pete Kwiatkowski being on the sidelines rather than the booth. We’re not sure why that change was made, but Jeff Choate and Blake Gideon are in the booth while PK, Terry Joseph, and Bo Davis are on the sidelines. Whatever the reason, it seems to be working."

Texas has to keep developing H-Town recruiting

Deion is more likely at ASU, but I don't think Marion will be at Texas very long. He's destined for bigger things.

if Texas gets 2 years out of Marion I am going to be ecstatic. if you only get 1, you only get 1.

Make him Co-OC adn pay him a lot more. We can also install some of go-go offense and convince him to stay long enough that he can take over a large program and not a small school that lacks resources.

Saw Joel Klatt on a video and he mentioned effectively recruiting going forward, teams need 3 recruiting departments:

  • High School Evaluation & Recruiting
  • Transfer Evaluation & Recruiting
  • Current Roster Evaluation & Retainment

The current roster department is an essential component for having a great culture on your team.  Today you must relentlessly recruit your existing roster to have/maintain a great football program.

Oh, hell no.

Dang, Coach Marion sure knows how to promote his worth.  Probably needs 1 or 2 more years at Texas before he jumps into a head coaching position imo.

I remember Spencer Hall noting during the Bama game he saw a couple of plays with clear go-go concepts. Sark's been picking his brain.

Coaches who are looking at P12 schools right now are playing with fire. ASU has some value in realignment, but at best they are looking at a B12. The current P12 situation is dubious and could fall apart as early as next year.  Either way, they are going to be WAY underfunded.

NCAA reportedly considering lifting the cap on GA compensation

A proposal to allow school pay their graduate assistants a livable wage is welcome, overdue, and perhaps too late to make a real difference.

ZACH BARNETT         OCT 27, 2022

Quote

The NCAA Division I Council is considering lifting the pay restrictions on football graduate assistants, according to a report Thursday from Ross Dellenger of Sports Illustrated.

The proposal comes from the NCAA Rules Modernization Committee, which also recommends re-classifying baseball and softball volunteer positions into paid, full-time roles.

Before anyone rushes to assume Nick Saban and his many imitators would instantly turn Group of 5 and FCS head coaches into his GAs, not so fast. The NCAA has strict restrictions on who is eligible to work as a graduate assistant, starting with the fact that GAs have to be enrolled in graduate school while also handling a greater workload than full-time assistant coaches.

Here are the GA eligibility requirements, taken from a PowerPoint presentation at a 2021 NCAA rules seminar. For the 2023 football season, a GA must have completed his playing eligibility and/or earned his Bachelor's degree no later than 2016.

The rule change wouldn't change the pool of eligible GAs, it would just mean that the people in those jobs wouldn't necessarily have to survive on poverty wages while doing them.

The change is part of an organization-wide move to relax or remove many of the guardrails in place for decades within college sports. The NCAA Transformation Committee has recommended removing the countable coaches limit on football staffs. Presently, only the head coach, his 10 assistants and GAs are allowed to provide on-field instruction to players, and only the head coach and his 10 assistants can recruit off campus.

Sources maintain that rule is expected to go into effect early next year.

In a way, the proposal to eliminate the countable-coaches cap could work against the proposal to eliminate the GA salary cap.

Under the current system, GAs are incredibly valued positions on any staff (which is why it's such a tragedy they're so underpaid) because the number of coaches permitted by NCAA rules to provide on-field instruction is so limited. But if those limits are removed, it changes the calculus here, does it not? If a head coach has $100,000 to pay one coach, is he more likely to spend it on a 52-year-old coach with experience up and down the ladder in a variety of roles and programs, or a 24-year-old looking to learn on the job?

No one wants to think of the coaching profession in such adversarial terms, and the NCAA's various committees surely aren't thinking that way. It's mainly just a shame the Rules Modernization Committee wasn't formed 30 years ago.
