Why is this kid a mid 3* composite?  Has an impressive offer list.

I don't think even our own 9.95ers think he's a can't-miss prospect. As the floor of our DB class he's a nice piece, and he's from a prospect pipeline school we haven't done anything at for years.

If you want to know what Rod Babers has to say after watching Caleb Chester's film: The guy's a great athlete at CB, a natural at coverage, keenly aware of angles, great at bump and run, and already has different methods of playing press (shadow, one hand jab, two hand press). He can disrupt receivers and get them off their route. He's already put a lot into studying his craft.

Weird, he’s not the typical coach on the field.

(He's on campus at A&M today, so looks like it's a mid-week visit for them as well, and that he's changed the schedule for his visits.)

Teammate of '26 4* WR prospect Vance Spafford, so not only would it be nice to land Dijon, but it would set us up nicely to make a run at Vance next year.

OTF was told Tuesday night that Conroe (Texas) High 4-star CB Dorian Brew remained in talks with Texas on an official visit, but had yet to finalize a date.

As of last night, Brew was not expected to be in Austin this weekend.

He currently has Oregon scheduled for this weekend.

Brew has had Ohio State on the scheduled June 21-23 for a while.

guess the best we can do is a mid week visit?

Anyone know if he's going to announce this summer or will he go into the season uncommitted?  FWIW, this feels like a December flip to us if he chooses someone else.  He fits the recruitment where Sark keeps turning up the heat during the season for a flip.

Note on Michael Terry III

San Antonio (Texas) Alamo Heights 4-star athlete Michael Terry III will begin his OV to Texas A&M earlier than expected. This will not be a full weekend OV.

The Terry family is scheduled to arrive in College Station today/tonight, and have the two day visit Thursday through Saturday. Texas A&M has taken the Thursday through Saturday approach with a few prospects in the 2025 cycle.

Notes

Terry and family have been in contact with Texas multiple times since the OV. Texas has reiterated that the 6-3, 217 pounder has a spot in the Texas class all the way until signing day in December if he waits to make a decision.

Texas, Texas A&M and Nebraska all remain squarely in the mix.

Terry and family are not in a rush to make a decision, There remains talk in the family about a fall decision. That is subject to change, of course, as many prospects end up backing off that timeline and committing prior to senior season.

The NIL part of the recruitment has yet to truly begin.

Could you imagine as a family.  You live in SA.  Short trip north to Austin.

then you spend a weekend in college station   I question anyone that says   You know  this isn’t bad

OTF teasing a surprise visitor this weekend by a defensive prospect. Not releasing a name until announced by the player, so likely committed elsewhere

Ketch should let us know in the next few days.

Having spent, I don't know how many hundreds of hours of my life on I-35 between Austin and San Antonio, I just imagine getting to Austin and dealing with all the I-35 bullshit to have another couple hours more of driving and being like, "fuck this. fuck all of this."

Yeah traffic in Austin is rough to be sure. Still better than going to that cow patty.

As someone who has had to deal with HW21 between San Marcos and BCS on more than one occasion traveling from San Antonio, give me that I35 to Austin traffic any time.  At least there's more than one lane to get around a moron.

I just came here to post a very similar sentiment. I used to live down there and holy cow it’s aggyville all over that area. That area is starting to produce some talented players with good enough academics. If Texas could be more successful there that could be a great pipeline.

Starting to produce?

The Houston area has always produced top tier players. Texas just quit prioritizing the Houston area.

Somewhat coincidentally, Texas football sucked for 10 years.

Texas All Time Running Back Recruits from the Houston area, per 247 Sports:

2005    Jamaal Charles, Memorial (Port Arthur, TX)
2007    Cody Johnson, Waller (Waller, TX)
2007    Fozzy Whittaker, Pearland (Pearland, TX)
2008    Jeremy Hills, Alief Elsik (Houston, TX)
2008    Ryan Roberson, Brenham (Brenham, TX)

2014    Duke Catalon, Aldine Eisenhower (Houston, TX)
2014    D'Onta Foreman, Texas City (Texas City, TX)
2015    Tristian Houston, North Shore (Houston, TX)
2016    Kyle Porter, Katy (Katy, TX)
2017    Toneil Carter, Langham Creek (Houston, TX)
2017    Daniel Young, Westfield (Houston, TX)

2022   Jaydon Blue, Klein Cain (Houston, TX)

Texas took 5 "high rated" RB in the 4 years between 2005 to 2008, or 1.25  per year

Texas took 7 "high rated" (extremely generous) RB in the 16 years between 2009 to 2024, or 0.44 per year, including 2 4-year periods of not getting any.

Texas fucked up in abandoning the Houston area.

He means Fort Bend / the southwest suburbs, not all of Houston

I'm betting on one of the USC commits.

Looks like Wells reported it 2 days ago, but USC CB commit, Trestin Castro is coming in this weekend.

https://www.on3.com/db/trestin-castro-174220/recruiting/

Other options in order of likelihood include :

LB, Matai Tagoa'i

He's showing as scheduled to visit next weekend. If he shows up, the news is that he's skipping or rescheduling a Utah OV.

https://www.on3.com/db/matai-tagoai-158449/recruiting/

DL, Hayden Lowe

Unlikely, but we've offered and he's been mentioned

https://www.on3.com/db/hayden-lowe-154780/recruiting/

DL, Isaiah Gibson

He'd be cancelling/rescheduling Tennessee. This one feels like an eventual uga flip.

https://www.on3.com/db/isaiah-gibson-177044/recruiting/

Others with offers include the Lake Travis Peanut Assassin, Gus Cordova, and JuJu Lewis. We've not offered Justus Terry, their highest ranked commit.

Good grief dude. I think the people who frequent the recruiting board know that the Houston area has talent.  I was referring to the Ft Bend area specifically.  Come on, man.

If he is at aggy for a mid-week, perhaps he will stay around for a weekend at the Four Seasons.

In Danny Young's defense, it's not his fault Tom Herman decided to use him to run a bunch of sweeps he was very ill equipped for on 3rd/4th and 2. He wasn't Henry Melton athletically (who is?) or even Cody Johnson physically, but maybe he would've been a little better with a different coach

Port Arthur is 1.5 hrs highway driving east on the fucking border of Texas and Louisiana. How the fuck is that “Houston Area”?
