Texas football sits at No. 13 in the 247Sports Composite Team Recruiting Rankings. If all goes as the Longhorns hope over the next three-plus weeks, UT could find itself in the top five, if not top three, come kickoff against Colorado State.

That's because 5 five-star Texas football targets are set to announce decisions in the month of August, and the Longhorns are high on the list for each of them.

To put it all in perspective, if all five decisions go UT football's way, that would put Texas at 296.91, good for what's currently the No. 3 class in the country behind Ohio State and Alabama.

And that's not even including other non-five-star targets that will likely be announcing their decisions prior to their senior seasons.

But, for this exercise, we're going to focus on the five-star recruits.

Here, Horns247's Jordan Scruggs and Hank South each give their outlines of the 5 five-star recruitments with decision dates set in the next 25 days, where we believe Texas football stands, and a brief prediction, or at least feel, to how we think it unfolds.

Check it out!

Alamo Heights five-star athlete Michael Terry III —

Decision date: TBD, prior to his senior season

When Texas offered at Junior Day, there was a sense that the Longhorns were going to be a significant factor in the San Antonio product's recruitment. Terry himself said UT was in his top three at the time. The 6-foot-3, 217-pound, do-it-all athlete returned for an official visit this summer and then again at the end of July for the Texas Bash Pool Party. Texas is pushing to close on this recruitment, pitching the uniqueness of his skillset, comparing him to guys like Roschon Johnson, Jordan Whittington, and Ja'Tavion Sanders all in one. Oregon and Nebraska are also going pedal to the metal here, both hosting him as well in recent days, but the Longhorns in particular seem to be pushing the right buttons down the stretch. (SOUTH)

This has been a Texas vs. Oregon battle since the start of the summer, and the notion has remained the same regardless of which visits have been taken elsewhere this summer. The Longhorns continue to push the right buttons in this recruitment, as Steve Sarkisian and a core group of some of his best staffers have combined for a team effort in this one. With Tashard Choice, Chris Gilbert, AJ Milwee, Chris Jackson, and Brandon Harris all involved in Terry's recruitment, I felt as if the Longhorns left the month of June as the favorite, and the feeling has remained the same leaving the month of July. I've liked and continue to like the Longhorns over the Ducks in this one. (SCRUGGS)

Horns247 says: We like Texas to win out

Galveston Ball five-star linebacker/safety Jonah Williams —

Decision date: July 24

Will it be Texas, LSU, Oregon, Texas A&M, or USC 19 days from now? This recruitment has been one of the more wild ones of the 2025 cycle, particularly for a recruit that keeps things relatively low-key. In the spring everyone predicted Oklahoma, earlier in the summer it was Texas A&M, then Oregon caught fire. The only thing missing was a verbal commitment to any of those programs. As we sit here less than three weeks out, the Aggies still hold the edge on the 247Sports Crystal Ball, but this recruitment is challenging to predict. The Longhorns are the only program that did not get an official visit this summer, however, Williams spent the day on the Forty Acres at the end of July for the Texas Bash Pool Party. There, we believe, UT made things much more interesting in terms of Texas' chances in this one. The Longhorns, led by safeties coach Blake Gideon, are working to close, and appear to be gaining ground quickly. Obviously Williams is a baseball prospect, too, and could opt for the MLB all together. Texas is treating things as if Williams is going to play football and baseball at the collegiate level. (SOUTH)

With USC being the school in fifth place according to just about everyone you talk to, the Trojans would be the school that would surprise the most people out of the options in Williams' top five. With Oregon picking up a commitment from a five-star safety in Trey McNutt over the weekend, I think we could see the Ducks slip a bit as I do think a big part of Williams' recruitment is being "the guy" in the secondary class he decides to join. That is and this is total speculation on my end, but I do think this decision will come down to LSU, Texas, and Texas A&M, with a few sources believing Williams' decision won't be made until minutes before he goes public with his announcement. Regardless of the contradicting info you here when it comes to contenders or the ultimate decision, it's clear Texas has only improved their chances since getting the No. 7 overall prospect on campus at the end of July as they look to continue trending in the right direction several weeks out from the decision. (SCRUGGS)

Horns247 says: Texas is trending up

Lewisville five-star offensive tackle Michael Fasusi —

Decision date: July 21

Texas offensive line coach Kyle Flood has put together a stout group along the OL thus far. There are two big fish — rankings-wise — still out there, though. Fasusi, the No. 12 overall prospect in the country, will announce his decision on July 21, with a top five of Texas, Missouri, Oklahoma, Oregon, and Texas A&M. Of note, the 6-foot-5, 295-pounder took a trip out to Florida at the end of July as well. We believe this is coming down to a Red River (Recruiting) Shootout. Our picks remain on Burnt Orange, but this is a recruitment that's subject to have some twists and turns over the next two weeks. You could make a strong argument for either program having the upper hand. We're sticking with our Texas prediction for now. (SOUTH)

Although Oklahoma stole a lot of momentum and buzz coming out Fasusi's official visit to Norman the June 14-16 weekend, Texas continues to hold some optimism in this one. There continues to be optimism on the other side of the Red River as well, as both rivals hold some confidence as both Texas and Oklahoma have rightfully been able to call themselves the leader at different times over the last few years. Led by two great O-Line coaches in Bill Bedenbaugh and Kyle Flood, this decision is heavily expected to come down to Texas and Oklahoma and would come as a shock if a commitment is given anywhere else. With playing time, culture, and NIL being a focal point with Fasusi being an elite left tackle prospect, he's still yet to make the decision, but, as quiet as things have been, Horns247 continues to like Texas as the landing spot. (SCRUGGS)

Horns247 says: We think Texas ultimately gets it done

Sachse five-star wide receiver Kaliq Lockett —

Decision date: Aug. 7

Two days from now, five-star wide receiver Kaliq Lockett will make his decision known. Down the stretch Texas is battling Alabama and Florida State, among several others, to try and close on the 6-foot-2, 175-pounder. The last five-star, in-state wide receiver to announce his decision dimmed July 4th fireworks for Texas fans, as Dakorien Moore spurned the Longhorns for Oregon. Lockett, we believe, could reignite some sparklers if you have any left over and your HOA is ok with it. Texas has been pressing to land Lockett regardless of Moore's decision throughout the summer, and has found itself in prime position 48 hours out. Alabama and Florida State aren't giving up, though. (SOUTH)

Two days out from the decision date of the nation's No. 2-ranked wide receiver prospect, and there's a lot to like about where things have trended over the last few weeks of the summer. Texas entered the summer months in a battle with Florida State and Texas A&M, but as recruiting picked up for the Crimson Tide, Alabama slowly found themselves creeping in the mix and earned an official visit from Lockett following the commitment of Keelon Russell. While the Crimson Tide made things competitive for a moment or two, this has Chris Jackson and the Longhorns written all over it as Horns247 is expecting Lockett to become Jackson's second five-star receiver commit of his Texas tenure. (SCRUGGS)

Horns247 says: Texas has the inside track

Jacksonville (Fla.) Mandarin five-star wide receiver Jaime Ffrench —

Decision date: Aug. 30

Ffrench is another five-star receiver with an August decision. Texas has come from behind in this one after offering in January, well after any of the other finalists that include Miami, LSU, and Tennessee. The one-time Alabama commit first visited Austin in April, at which point he said the Longhorns vaulted up into his top three with the Vols and Ohio State at the time. The Buckeyes were considered the favorite early on in the spring. Entering the summer, Ffrench had made it clear Texas was in pole position. However, after his official visit slate, Ffrench backed off leaders and said everyone was even ahead of his Aug. 30 decision. As things stand now on Aug. 5, we believe this is a Texas-Miami battle, and we are still giving the edge to the Longhorns. I placed a Crystal Ball in favor of Texas for Ffrench ahead of his official visit to the Forty Acres in June, and I still stand by that prediction with some confidence. (SOUTH)

The last five-star Texas target to make his decision in August but certainly not the least, there continues to be confidence out of Austin in regards to the nation's No. 4 ranked receiver prospect. With Texas battling Miami, LSU, and Tennessee for the five-star, Horns247 believes the decision will come down to playing in Austin or Coral Gables. Horns247's Hank South threw in a Crystal Ball prediction back at the start of Ffrench's June 21-23 official visit to Texas, and in the time since not much has changed with how we view the recruitment ending. Horns247 believes the Longhorns will end up winning out, but it certainly won't be an easy battle as the Hurricanes are just as well-equipped in the NIL department as some of the nation's best. (SCRUGGS)

The "Gist" at the beginning of the article is waaay more bullish than the rest of the article. I was halfway to full mast only before I started reading all that hedging.

Updating this:

OTF spoke with someone very close to the Williams recruitment.

What we reported this morning from Galveston Ball High practice is where Jonah's head/intentions are at right now. He really wants to play college football. And he currently plans to play both in college.

One other note ... should Jonah's decision to play both football and baseball in college stick, that makes travel for a family that lives near Galveston much more difficult.

Jonah will announce his decision August 24.

Has to be Texas if he plans on playing both.

(SCRUGGS)

Horns247 says: We like Texas to beat out Miami here

That travel note is interesting.
Galveston to Baton Rouge: About 4 hours 45 minutes
Galveston to Austin: About 3 hours 30 minutes
Galveston to College Station: About 2 hours 30 minutes
Galveston to Eugene: Lol
Move to greater Austin area that isn't a downtown condo- still about an hour with traffic

If Williams enrolls in December and plays college baseball in the spring, then he would forego the MLB draft for 3 years.

Which he probably should do. He has potential, but is super raw. Guys with extreme tools and potential without otherworldly production at the high school level are being deprioritized now in the MLB draft. 10 years ago, he's a first or second rounder.

If he's an above-average LHP for the baseball team and a starter on the defensive side of the ball in football, he'll make a shit ton in NIL at Texas. Sure, he'll have to work his ass off, but he would anyways to make it to the big leagues if he turned pro at 18 in baseball.

There are so many red flags in this thing. So now he is going to enroll 6 weeks before the college baseball season starts after playing HS football all fall and try to participate in spring football practice at the same time? So, his freshman year in baseball will basically be a throwaway year, which is a great way to start as someone who is going to try to play both sports at a high level in an era where you rarely see anyone do it.

I'm not sure Kyler Murray could have pulled that off. I’d have him pitch and bring him along really slowly. But I agree, playing a position is going to be extremely difficult. And even then, most of his peers play competitive baseball year round.

Correct. So he's going to try to balance both in the spring after enrolling in January, likely won't play summer ball anywhere as he tries to establish himself on the football field, then likely won't pick up a baseball in the fall as his head swims from being a freshman football player.

The path for this ending well is extremely narrow, and this doesn't even factor in the position question mark on the football field with him preferring safety but probably being a better fit at LB.

At this point, Williams should only be regarded as entertainment. If Texas lands him, it will drive some other fans nuts and the hype will help in the class. Beyond that, expectations for value of any sort should be through the floor. And if he goes elsewhere, we’ll get to watch some idiots not understand why he likely busts out.

Per Hank South (Horns 247)

"As Horns247 has reported several times throughout the summer, there's been growing optimism about Texas' chances here talking to several sources close to the recruitment."

ON KALIQ LOCKETT  -

Mike Raoch (247Sports National Reporter)

- With less than 48 hours to go for his announcement, Mike Roach reiterated that he "really likes" where Texas stands w/ Lockett.  Ironic, but when 'ol Streets has chosen to make a strong prediction, he has been pretty accurate.

Andrew Hattersley (Aggie 247)

"Heading into Wednesday's decision though, Texas looks to be the team to beat after missing out on Dakorien Moore in early July."

Brett Greenberg (Bama 247)

The primary competition is Alabama.  Here's a note from a few days ago, on Lockett.

Texas vs. Texas A&M battle?

The recruitment of D.J. Sanders is scheduled to conclude on August 8, sometime after the sun goes down (subject to change in timing).

The latest Intel OnTexasFootball has gathered in the last 12’ish hours is that there are a couple of key people close that aren’t in favor of Michigan.

Texas has been in contact with D.J. and his circle in the last 24 hours. The same can be said for Texas A&M.

If the key people continue to believe Michigan is not where the 6-4.5, 315 pounder needs to be, this one is headed for a Texas vs Texas A&M decision.

There remains some cautious optimism in Austin. With that said, OTF is in wait and see mode for its this decision.

Interesting snippet that could apply to Nick Brooks, from Benjamin Wolk (Staff - Georgia/Dawgs 247)

image.thumb.png.e3034ef0dabf4b723d9ed641caa6e257.png

(They currently have 4 OL - two listed as OTs - committed in this class.)

The same staffer - Wolk - didn't have Brooks in his mock class for Georgia, a couple of days ago.

Have not seen a response yet, to the question below:

image.png.0f0f8cfdcfc11abbe0f551ab7c3c2a05.png

And this, FWIW, from Hank South (Horns 247).  It's from the Brooks/decision date thread.

Ok thanks chief, I will work on my material to suit audiences like yourself.

Edit- at least you didn't give me a list of various suburbs and surrounding incorporated areas along with average commute time to downtown. That's progress

-Gerry

Galveston to Austin ~3.5 hours

Galveston to Baton Rouge ~4.5 hours

Galveston to College Station ~2.5 hours

Can't imagine travel time is that big of a factor when looking at these three. It would certainly eliminate Oregon and USC though
