Are y'all talking about the Cook who dropped a wide open touchdown at an important part of last game?

Weird.

Believe it or not, even great wide receivers drop wide open touchdown passes. I saw both Jerry Rice and Randy Moss do it.

People are mentioning Cook, because he has been passed by Moore and Wingo.  Both of those guys have demonstrated a connection with Arch. Cook is not a lock to be a starter next year, especially if Sark continues to pull a 1st round WR talent out of the portal. That doesn’t even consider the chance that Golden comes back to Texas. It’s going to be a very competitive room, so anything can happen.

It's just weird timing to talk about a guy transferring when he's got serious shit to prove and the season to do it.

Let's just say the market for Johntay Cook is in flux.

Cam Akers kind of.

Some info that I gathered regarding some recent Achilles injuries:

Cam Akers - Still playing, and this dude was back at practice in 5(!) months, somehow

James Robinson - Signed with the Pats after his injury but wasn’t any good, career is now over

J.K. Dobbins - Tore his week 1 last year and is playing well this year so far

Tarik Cohen - Tried to come back with the Panthers, but this dude has had many different leg injuries and ultimately didn’t make it back to the league

Justice Hill - Still playing

Marlon Mack - has torn both with the latest injury occurring last year, career likely over but is currently a free agent as far as I can tell

Tre’Davious White - Not a RB but a very good corner who tore his Achilles in week 4 last year and returned to start the season this year

Aaron Rodgers and Kirk Cousins are obviously not mobile quarterbacks at all, but they are old (especially Rodgers) and made it back the next season.

In the NBA, KD and Klay Thompson also had Achilles ruptures.

Not counting on Clark as anything more than a lottery ticket seems the sound course of action, unfortunately.  Achilles injuries are brutal, and I can’t think of any examples of players coming back strong after surgery, right?  Jonathan Gray was never the same after his.

Durant seems ok

Texas withstood the Xavier Worthy tampering. I think Texas will be fine.

We needed Worthy bad at the time. 1st round WR transfers were not beating down Texas door at the time either.

So, Worthy had the advantage. And Texas was more than happy to pay up, im sure.

Nowadays?  If Cook tried to hold Texas feet to the fire, I'd think he would get an unpleasant suprise, barring an outstanding finish to his season. Better than he has been doing for sure

Yeah, Achilles tears are not the automatic career enders they used to be. Some of this board have outdated medical info.

After Achilles tear and repair, most players do return (70-80 percent). Most that return are not as good 1 year out. That effect tends to wash out by 2 years for those who actually do return.

For the 70-80% who return, it’s basically a two year process to get back to (approximately) where they were?

Yes

EDIT with a re-rupture incidence of about 5%

I don't disagree that we shouldn't be blindly pessimistic with Clark's recovery, but the one poster (@Magus Ossis) who has actually provided "medical info" is a clinician who directly works with these types of injuries. Pretty sure his info is not outdated.

Otherwise, @Anton Chigurh's post shows just how variable the recovery outcome can be. It's entirely realistic to be skeptical of Clark's ability to contribute at Texas in the future. At the same time, it's entirely possible he will return and contribute. However, based on how stacked the RB room is, combined with how well Texas continues to recruit at the position, it's entirely possible Clark doesn't see the field as a heavy contributor here.
