Please for the love of god. I get why people are upset. I have my own opinions, but don’t make me read football board arguments in the recruiting thread. It’s my safe space after a tough game.

Had this same convo in game text with a buddy during/after game… his take quinn isnt qb1…..i had to inform him qb1 just means the starter…. literally every team has a qb1….. then he pivoted to quinn cant win a big game….. I countered with Bama last yr….. guided his team into playoffs last yr…. and beat Michigan in the Big House this yr …… his retort…. Quinn will never win a ring….. I said that may be true because only one qb wins the ship every yr……. average qb gets 2 seasons to win one.    This aint the NFL where qbs  can last 10+ yrs…… U get probably 2 shots thats it!     He said I was a Romo fan…. I told him he was too drunk…. go to bed.    Damn, some fans!! lol

saw a clip on twitter with a UGA site interviewing Terry..

He was smiling talking about UGA DL performance in the game.. he was respectful of Texas but the interviewer being biased.. you could tell that's easily where he is leaning and he was naming all the DL guys for UGA by first names.

Still like how the staff is aggressive even with longshots on paper

We aren't getting a guy out of Georgia that Georgia decides it has to have. Only way we get this guy is if Georgia slow plays him and prioritizes others. This is where the bump up in scholarship numbers could hurt us. We have to hope all the arrests and lack of discipline in that Georgia program takes them down in the next few years, then we can swoop in.

Speaking of, how did the Longhorn Band let a halftime performance against Georgia slip by without playing Sammy Hagar, "I Can't Drive 55"?

How many current band members could tell you who Sammy Hagar is?

They let a performance with a guy from 80s bands slip by without power to his piano or microphone and speakers. He was just there miming, as far as I can tell.

The band's technology folks showed up like Quinn did.

Wednesday Morning Recruiting Nuggets: DL and more DL

How well the 2025 recruiting class finishes will be largely dependent on the defensive line position in the eyes of many Texas fans.

This morning, OnTexasFootball provides the latest on the defensive line.

Javion Hilson, EDGE, Cocoa (Fla.) High

Those in Austin continue to feel good about where The Longhorns sit with 4-star++ EDGE Javion Hilson out of the Sunshine State. Hilson, 6-4.5 and 230-pounds, is expected to continue on with the recruiting process with a current decision date of December 4. An official visit to Syracuse November 2-3 weekend is on the books. Florida State hasn't given up. Florida hasn't given up. But the Longhorns lead here.

Should Texas close this one out, Texas would arguably have the top EDGE class in the country in Lance Jackson (Texarkana, Texas/Pleasant Grove), Smith Orogbo (Alief, Texas/Hastings) and Hilson. All three are ranked among the top 50 prospects overall in the county in the industry.

Justus Terry, DL, Manchester (Ga.) High

The vibe coming out of the 5-stars official visit last weekend is that he continues to be open to leaving the state for college. The visit was seen as very positive, and the conversations were viewed as real and positive. The possibility of leaving the state to try something new and different for college is something the 6-4.5, 275-pounder has been sincere about during the process. With that said, those in Austin understand that Georgia hasn't lost many defensive line prospects of this level under Kirby Smart. Especially ones that come down to keeping a prospect in state vs. a prospect going to a program that is seen as a real threat in the SEC. Georgia, Auburn and Texas are the three programs where a decision is expected to come from.

Joseph Mbatchou and Kevin Wynn

Texas continues to be at an all in level in the recruitment of fast rising OTF 4-star+ defensive lineman Joseph Mbatchou (Loganville, Ga./Grayson). OTF was told by two sources in the last 48 hours that Mbatchou's family sees a long list of positives that being a student/athlete at the University of Texas could provide. The 6-4, 280-pounder is scheduled to be at Michigan this weekend. With that said, the word currently is USC and Auburn currently pose the biggest threat to Texas. Both are very aggressive in this recruitment.

Texas continues to try and get the entire Wynn family to Austin for a visit. A potential issue is both remaining home games are providing real scheduling conflicts. Whether it's senior night or a Saturday playoff game plus parents work schedule, Texas is dealing with hurdles for a game day visit. USC is making a huge push. Georgia is in it - on some level. The Florida State verbal is headed for a first week of December final decision.

Chace Sims, DL, Richmond (Texas) Randle

Texas defensive coordinator Pete Kwiatkowski is scheduled to speak with the Texas A&M commit and OTF 4-star early this week. The Sims family and the Texas DC didn't get the opportunity to speak at length Saturday.

There is one person very close to Sims that prefers Texas A&M because the relationships are well established over months.

Defensive line board

Justus Terry, Manchester (Ga.) High

Joseph Mbatchou, Loganville (Ga.) Grayson

Kevin Wynn, Greensboro (Ga.) Green County - FSU commit

Chace Sims, Richmond (Texas) Randle - Texas A&M commit

Walter Mathis Jr., Savannah (Ga.) Calvary Day - LSU commit

Malcolm Simpson, Hitchcock (Texas) High - Nebraska commit

Floyd Guidry, Spring (Texas) High - TCU commit

Update on 5-star

You guys and gals have asked a few times about 5-star OT and Oklahoma commit Michael Fasusi. There had not been any contact with Texas as of late last week.

OTF is hearing that is no longer the case. Nothing serious, but there has now been light communication.

We shall see if it goes anywhere with Texas.

To be clear, Texas isn’t the only school that has been attempting to engage with the Sooners verbal.

Lunchtime Recruiting Nuggets: Texas A&M commit and 2026 leans

These lunchtime recruiting nuggets are being published from the Chick-fil-a in Baton Rouge on College Street. I'm en route to Florida, Georgia and maybe one more state for the next couple of weeks.

Lets get started the latest on a Texas target from the Houston area.

Chace Sims and Texas

The Texas A&M defensive line commit out of Richmond (Texas) Randle and OnTexasFootball 4-star attended the Texas-Georgia game Saturday with his family. He had the opportunity to sit down with Kenny Baker and talk for a while on what Texas could do for him. The visit well, with the exception of not getting the sit down time with head coach Steve Sarkisian. The eventual meeting (possible OV) with Sarkisian and Pete Kwiatkowski/Johnny Nansen will be big for the Longhorns.

The visit as a whole was very impressive for Sims and family according to one source. That source said Sims is solid "for now".

Sims went into the recruiting process with Texas as his favorite. The Longhorns didn't bring him in for an official visit, so have been playing catch up since the start of the 2024 season. Sims and family initially cancelled an OV for the Mississippi State game before showing up Saturday in Austin. That alone shows Sims sincere interest with Texas A&M placing pressure on Sims and family to not make a trip to Austin.

Texas A&M will fight back immediately. Sims and family will be in College Station Saturday for the LSU vs. Texas A&M showdown, in what will be a second straight electric environment.

LSU is also still working to get Sims to a game. Tigers DL coach Bo Davis is in consistent communication.

This recruitment is the Aggies to lose with a final decision not expected until late November or December 4.

Texas leans on the OL in 2026

OnTexasFootball continues to believe that the Longhorns are in a good spot early on with a trio of 2026 OL's inside the state line. Five-star OT John Turntine III (Fort Worth/North Crowley), OnTexasFootball 4-star+ IOL Toa Katoa (Euless/Trinity) and OnTexasFootball 4-star IOL Nicolas Robertson (Klein High) were all in Austin Saturday for the most watched game this season. All three have committable offers right now from Kyle Flood.

OTF current percentages on the 2026 OL trio:
Turntine III - 65%
Katoa - 55%
Robertson - 75%

The relevant response would have been looking at the top recruits from Georgia and seeing how many go to other schools. Every state is different.

That said, Georgia is also a fast-growing state with lots of move-ins and machine high schools like Grayson and Buford, so it wouldn't be surprising if it's similar.

According to On3

2025 - 3 of the top 10, Justus Terry the lone uncommitted prospect(potentially 4/10), 5 of the top 20
2024 - 2 of the top 20
2023 - 4 of the top 20
2022 - 8 of the top 20
2021 - 7 of the top 20

Judging from the committed schools I saw of kids who didn't go to UGA....you'll have to pay for em basically.

All the $9.95er confidence is based on Hilson’s silent commitment. They are not smart enough to figure out that silent commitments are meaningless, even though it’s literally their job to know that. The reality is that he’s going through the whole process again. We’re in the mix, but that’s it.

High school or portal?: Positions of need

The Texas Longhorns staff will be back on the road next week looking to continue to close out the 2025 top 5 level high school class. The majority of targets remainig will announce decisions on December 4-6.

On December 9, the portal window will open. That window closes on December 28.

This morning, OnTexasFootball takes a look at which positions the staff will likely look at in the portal after the season.

HIGH SCHOOL AND PORTAL

The defensive line position is one in which OTF fully expects the staff to bring in at least one (probably two) players from the portal to go with a four man high school class.

High school commitments (plan to sign four):

Josiah Sharma, DL, Folsom (Calif.) High #AllGasNoBrakes
OnTexasFootball ranking: 4-star++

Myron Charles, DL, Port Charlotte (Fla.) High #AllGasNoBrakes
OnTexasFootball ranking: 4-star+

Defensive back

Texas would like to add another high school cornberback, and could still go to the portal even with a flip late at the position.

Jonah Williams, S, Galveston (Texas) Ball #AllGasNoBrakes
OnTexasFootball ranking: 4-star++

Caleb Chester, CB, Missouri City (Texas) Marshall #AllGasNoBrakes
OnTexasFootball ranking: 4-star

Dorian Brew, CB/DB, Conroe (Texas) High - *Oregon commit
OnTexasFootball ranking: 4-star++

Wide receiver (3 or 4)

Texas could hold with three high school prospects. With multiple departures expected after the season, OTF fully expects the staff to hit the portal for one or two speedy playmakers. The 2025 high school class has long limb, outside 50-50 ball winners and rangy playmakers covered.

Jaime Ffrench, WR, Jacksonville (Fla.) Mandarin #AllGasNoBrakes
OnTexasFootball ranking: 4-star++

Kaliq Lockett, WR, Sachse (Texas) High #AllGasNoBrakes
OnTexasFootball ranking: 4-star++

Daylan McCutcheon, WR, Lucas (Texas) Lovejoy #AllGasNoBrakes
OnTexasFootball ranking: 4-star+

PORTAL POSSIBLE

Should Texas flip Riley Pettijohn (McKinney, Texas/High) or unexpectedly win out for Madden Faraimo (San Juan Capistrano, Calif./JSerra Catholic), the staff would likely hold. If not, a peek into the portal is possible.

Linebacker commitments (2 or 3)

Elijah Barnes, LB, Dallas (Texas) Skyline #AllGasNoBrakes
OnTexasFootball ranking: 4–star++

Jonathan Cunningham, LB, Fort Worth (Texas) North Crowley #AllGasNoBrakes
OnTexasFootball ranking: 4-star

Tight end (2)

Texas will lose Gunnar Helm and Juan Davis after the season. With two high school tight end prospects committed, hitting the portal here is dependent on guys such as Amari Niblack returnign to Texas next year.

Nick Townsend, TE, Dekaney (Texas) High #AllGasNoBrakes
OnTexasFootball ranking: 4-star++

Emaree Winston, TE, Calhoun (Ga.) High #AllGasNoBrakes
OnTexasFootball ranking: 3-star+

Running back (2)

Ideally, Texas wouldn't go to the portal at the running back position. With injuries to Cedric Baxter Jr. and Christian Clark that will sideline them until the summer of 2025 with uncertainty of bounce back in 2025, there is the possibility the staff could add an experienced back with some size.

James Simon, RB, Shreveport (La.) Calvary Baptist #AllGasNoBrakes
OnTexasFootball ranking: 4-star

Rickey Stewart, RB, Tyler (Texas) Chapel Hill #AllGasNoBrakes
OnTexasFootball ranking: 4-star

LITTLE TO ZERO CHANCE OF PORTAL

Quarterback

K.J. Lacey, QB, Saraland (Ala.) High #AllGasNoBrakes
OnTexasFootball ranking: 4-star

Offensive line (5 or 6)

The Longhorns have not gone to the poral under Kyle Flood. They prefer to develop from within. Texas would like to flip Oklahoma 5-star OT commit Michael Fasusi (Lewisville, Texas/High).

Nick Brooks, OT, Loganville (Ga.) Grayson #AllGasNoBrakes
OnTexasFootball ranking: 4-star+

John Mills, IOL, San Francisco (Calif.) St. Ignatius #AllGasNoBrakes
OnTexasFootball ranking: 4-star

Jackson Christian, IOL, Port Neches (Texas) PN-G #AllGasNoBrakes
OnTexasFootball ranking: 3-star+

Jordan Coleman, OT/IOL, Cedar Hill (Texas) High #AllGasNoBrakes
OnTexasFootball ranking: 4-star

Devin Coleman, IOL/C, Cedar Hill (Texas) High #AllGasNoBrakes
OnTexasFootball ranking: 4-star

EDGE

Lance Jackson, EDGE, Texarkana (Texas) Pleasant Grove #AllGasNoBrakes
OnTexasFootball ranking: 4-star++

Smith Orogbo, EDGE, Alief (Texas) Hastings #AllGasNoBrakes
OnTexasFootball ranking: 4-star++

Javion Hilson, EDGE, Cocoa (Fla.) High
OnTexasFootball ranking: 4-star++

Texas is going after Hilson as a third high school EDGE prospect. They have very good depth in the program even if Hilson ends up going elsewhere.

Notes:

Texas is favored to win out for 4-star++ athlete Michael Terry (San Antonio, Texas/Alamo Heights). This recruitment is likely independent of any portal needs at wide receiver, running back or potentially tight end.

Specialists are certainly possible

Anyone have this?

Here you are:

Spoiler

***We’ve been asked about RB Jerrick Gibson a lot. Why isn’t he playing more? It’s purely coaches’ decision. It’s pass-pro. He’s healthy.

***Intel leads IT to believe Michael Kern will be the featured punter this week. He had a good week.

***We already posted Ryan Wingo will start. IT bets Parker Livingstone will travel for this one. Isaiah Bond, like Andrew Mukuba, will take advantage of the bye week.

***We feel great about Andrew Mukuba returning for the Florida game. Per the comment above.

***I hate attaching my name to what’s supposed to happen so it’s hard to opine on how Quinn Ewers will play. That’s what it boils down to, I’m supposed to say how he will play. It doesn’t matter how he actually practices, it matters how he plays in front of everyone. He’ll play his best game in three weeks based on practice. I think. We’ll see.

***A few Texas players had bad games to the naked eye last week that were even worse under microscope. The coaches think they’ve fixed some ‘tells’ and fundamental miscues. We’ll get into this at a different time. There were some bad player breakdowns last week that are believed to be fixed.

***Defensively, there’s a lot of confidence each man will do his job. The D had a good week of practice. GOOD WEEK. That means they’ll probably lose eyes while the coaching staff punches furiously into their Commodore 64 tablet to show them what they’re doing wrong. But seriously, defense seems prepared.

***Special teams game? Sark said he felt the ST’s units were rounding into form. A source felt the same way and is optimistic this week. I think we’ll see a big play.

***I was asked on IT who would start between Liona Lefau and David Gbenda. Info points to Lefau but both had good weeks and are good players. Probably Lefau, though.

***IT also heard both Trey Moore and Colin Simmons looked good squeezing the run this week.

***Wouldn’t be surprised by another Gunnar Helm game.
