Texas Recruiting Notes 2025: Duck Around and Find Out

Hopefully it's either Hilson or a DT like Mbatchu, or maybe Dorian Brew.
We need a monster DT in the worst way possible. We'll lose most of our starting lineup after this season and I have little faith in the Jags currently warming the bench to do much more than that. (upperclassmen DT's that is)

Sharma and Charles are both huge dudes. For the immediate hole you're looking to fill you need a transfer.

Jalen Lott seems really likely

Concur. Buy my only reservations (outside of lance Jackson) is will he take visits, is he truly locked in? All those things. Don't get me wrong, I hope your right. He's a really good player and he would make a great addition to the class.

We shall see. Broughton and Collins have played well. Lole has been a huge addition. Nobody expected the production we are seeing from the DTs prior to the start of the season.  2025 is probably more about the guys currently on campus making steps and the portal. Rare to see a true freshmen DT coming in and make a big impact.

Could Lole get a medical redshirt for another year like some other players?

Considering Lole’s injury history, if he stays healthy this season and has a draftable grade, he should absolutely declare and get his money while he can.

I’m still hoping for a five-man DT class along with a couple portal additions if the 105-man roster size gets approved anytime soon.

Sunshine State Recruiting: Three updates

Venice, Fla. - OnTexasFootball continues to be on the road in the state of Florida seeing top commitments and targets of the Longhorns. To get your Wednesday started, OTF updates the recruitments of three targets in the 2025 cycle.

New LB offer and OTF is here

OnTexasFootball will be at Seffner (Fla.) Armwood High this afternoon to see new Texas linebacker offer Kellen Wiley.

Wiley, 6-3.5 and 220-pounds, was offered by the Longhorns Tuesday. Per Armwood High head coach Eric Davis, Wiley is scheduled to officially visit Texas November 9 for the game vs. Florida.

Wiley is one of the top senior risers in the country in the 2025 cycle. He's picked up senior season offers from Texas, Alabama, Miami, Georgia Tech and Louisville. He made an official visit to Louisville October 4. The Miami Hurricanes are considered the favorite headed into November.

Wiley recorded 82 tackles, two sacks and an interception as a junior at Hillsborough High. He also posted a personal best 43'7" triple jump in the spring.

Javion Hilson, EDGE, Cocoa (Fla.) High

It will be a Texas vs. Texas A&M decision for the 4-star++ EDGE barring the unforseen. Hilson has been considered a heavy lean to Texas since de-committing from Florida State earlier in the season. He attended the Texas vs. Georgia game with fellow Sunshine State 4-star++ prospect, friend and Texas commit Myron Charles. Hilson followed up by attending the Texas A&M vs. LSU game last weekend as an official visitor.

Here is my take on Hilson's recruitment:

He's not going to make an emotional decision ... ie a game is a deciding factor.

Hilson will absolutely go to the school he envisions himself at in terms of developing to maximize his ability as a player. That could be Texas watching Barryn Sorrell and Colin Simmons, along with the conversations with Kenny Baker and Pete Kwiatkowski. Or it could be Texas A&M if he sees himself closest to Nic Scourton. Both options present terrific NIL opportunities. This will be about football, and maximization.

Myron Charles locked in with Texas

My key takeaway from being at Port Charlotte (Fla.) High Tuesday for practice is OTF 4-star++ defensive line commit Myron Charles is solid with Texas. Can thing change? Maybe, but Charles passed on a game invite from Miami last weekend. And Miami is trying very hard to flip him. Florida and Florida State remain in contact. LSU and Texas A&M are trying hard too. But with 35 days until December 4, the Longhorns are in a very solid position.

Charles and Kenny Baker have developed a very strong bond. And Charles and fellow 4-star++ DL commit Josiah Sharma (Folsom, Calif./High) have become close and see themselves as the future Murphy/Sweat combo.

Nansen prioritizing Faraimo over Pettijohn seemed at the time and now in hindsight just a bad decision. The new LB offer and interest is because of the above.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought it was stated during the summer that Pettijohn is very similar to Barnes and projected to the same position, while Faraimo filled a different positional need.

I think so and it probably played a role in us favoring Faraimo. However, in hindsight and in foresight, that wasn't the smartest position to take. Usually that doesn't bite us in the ass though as miraculously someone like Matai Tagoa'i opens up his recruitment when the board has lost hope.

Do you think if they play against each other in 2025 they will exchange signed AARP cards?

Fun fact you can become an aarp member at any age. I be getting those magazines in the mail.

I thought Barnes and Faraimo were more similar, big thumpers. And Pettijohn was the gazelle.

Texas coaches are on the road

The Texas staff is on the road recruiting to end the off week. Some coaches began making stops Wednesday, and some will be out Thursday and Friday. That includes head coach Steve Sarkisian.

Sark in DFW

Head coach Steve Sarkisian is on the road in DFW today seeing commitments and a top target committed elsewhere. Sarkisian is expected at half of the Dallas Skyline (Elijah Barnes) vs. DeSoto game tonight.

Prior to that, one of the stops will be at Lewisville High to see 5-star OT and Oklahoma verbal Michael Fasusi.

Chris Gilbert is also on the road in DFW, and one of his stops Thursday was Mesquite Horn High to see Missouri 4-star++ OT and Missouri verbal Lamont Rogers. Rogers is considering a flip to Texas A&M, and could be considered a lean to the Aggies currently.

Nansen in California

Johnny Nansen was at Folsom (Calif.) High Wednesday to see 4-star++ DL commit Josiah Sharma. Sharma, 6-4 and 320-pounds, is solid with Texas per a source close to the recruitment. Sharma attended the Texas vs. Georgia game October 19th weekend.

Texas/Nansen was also looking at other prospects at Folsom High. Those are 2026 WR Jameson Powell (5-11, 175), 2026 CB Jason Hill Jr. (6-1, 170) and others.

Kenny Baker headed to Florida

Defensive line coach Kenny Baker will be in Florida Friday to see 4-star++ EDGE target Javion Hilson (Cocoa, Fla./High) and 4-star++ DL commit Myron Charles (Port Charlotte, Fla./High).

Also in Florida

Area recruiter Jeff Banks and DC Pete Kwiatkowsi are scheduled to be in the Tampa area to see new 2025 LB offer Kellen Wiley (6-4, 226) Friday night.

Tashard Choice seeing RB commits

Choice will be by Tyler (Texas) Chapel Hill to see 4-star Rickey Stewart and in Shreveport (La.) Calvary Baptist 4-star James Simon.

Pettijohn turned after feeling like he was less important than dakorien Moore

Well, i would think Moore was prioritized higher. But the real question is what "prioritize" really means and why should he care? If it's NIL dollars, then he still shouldn't care.  I don't get it.

They also play different positions, which is weird. Their priorities are probably the same just different recruiters. Honestly, I don't even care if we get Pettijohn anymore. It would be cool for a flip, but I'm focused more on Barnes who will be a bad ass.

I think we’re allowed to have more than one bad ass linebacker at a time.

Just saying…

Oh I agree. I'm just writing off Pettijohn at this point. Cunningham and Barnes should be fine, and Cunningham has been noted as being under-ranked. So...🤷‍♂️ I dunno, maybe we'll get a miracle and land Faraimo or someone else out of the Southeast.
