What's more frustrating is Corey Raymond's DB groups have been hot garbage for the past several seasons.  Granted, ours wasn't anything to brag about under Joseph until this season, but Phillips committed and flipped during the summer.  Why not just wait and see how things went for both programs during the season, which is clear as day now which one is better.

I mean they weren't good because we didn't have good players. Now we have a 2-deep of good players and magically the secondary is much better.

Dammit, really hope we don't end up regretting not taking Russell.  His junior film was absurd and his senior season is crazy.

I remember when this board was saying the same thing with not taking Milroe.
I think he was a few spots from a five star.

On3 definitely lets popularity and clicks influence their rankings. It became obvious when they randomly moved Nico ahead of Arch in 2023. 247 is probably guilty of playing favorites as well, ESPN and Rivals are just bad.

We know On3 and 247 manipulate rankings.  There are years when the talent should disproportionally come from fewer states....yet 5 star numbers tend to distribute uniformly from year to year.  Also, we know that Texas recruits got downgraded after the Strong and Herman evaluation screwups, not sure if we are still getting that treatment, but in Sark's first couple of seasons it was definitely the case.,

If Kelly gets fired, he will be free to portal even if he signs with them.

Kelly is not getting fired unless they can find cause.

Yeah a negotiated buyout could also happen if everyone is miserable.  They'll find a way to make it happen.  They couldn't afford Orgeron's buyout either and still managed to get rid of him.

LSU is poor and the House case payouts coming down the chute will make them even poorer. There are a whole bunch of schools staring that reality down and they’re not making changes and can’t make changes, including UF, Arkansas, OU, USC and so on.

Now is not the same at it ever was. Shit has gotten real on the NIL side and House makes that crazier. Places can’t just “find the money”.

One obvious area ripe for change, and Sexton isn’t going to be able to do a damned thing about it, is coach buyouts. Programs are getting squeezed from all sides and they’re going to value players first. Jimbo Fisher buyouts became the rage and now those things are viewed as toxic.

House case payouts should be roughly 24 million dollars per power five schools, assuming the 1.65 billion in damages will be divided up equally up between the 69 power five schools.

There is a big difference between $17M and $61M

We no longer need Phillips since we now hace two 5 star safeties. But Mathis would be great. Williams is meh.

Agree about Zion Williams. His highlight reel wasn’t impressive. Sure he is an immovable object (wouldn’t hate to see him in short yardage situations) but he doesn’t move around laterally well and seems to spend no time in the backfield. I watched him when he played against Ball a few weeks ago and I didn’t see him have a single impact play.

Exactly. For being a "4 star" he doesn't seem to do anything worthy of that ranking. He just kind of seems to be there and nothing more. I mean, I guess if we take 5 DT's I won't complain too much if it's him. I'll let Baker see what he can do with him. But if we don't get him, I won't lose sleep since he'll be processed at LSU. He seems more of a UTSA player to me, but that's just my opinion.

Been saying this for a year. Watched him throw shotput. He’s a waste bender with no twitch. Massive frame but will never be a pass rusher. Just a space eater.

Parker Thune (OU Rivals mod) on Fasusi

“Yeah, he’s expected at Texas this weekend and let’s just say the vibes are not great.

Not great at all.

And needless to say, if he were to decommit, that might have a major ripple effect with this class. He’s too good and too prominent for that not to be the case.

This came as a shock to people in the Switzer Center, too, which is never a good sign.”

At least Venables is gonna go have free time after the LSU game to re-recruit without having to worry about pesky bowl practices

I was thinking about this the other day, but seeing what coaches do after that final regular-season game will be interesting. With signing day the following Wednesday, there is no way you can do in-home visits for everyone in your class and the guys you are trying to flip like you could in previous years.

So, sorry if this triggers anyone, but I saw Stan Drayton got fired at Temple today, and I'm of the opinion that Choice is looking to move on since he only signed a 1 year extension last spring.

Were there any sour grapes when he left? Do ya'll think he's someone we'd circle back around to if Choice does move on?

Considering they're the only two RB coaches in football, we'd be wise to circle back.
