Texas Recruiting Notes 2025: Duck Around and Find Out

I don't think I'm pining for him. I think a lot of his success was strictly tied to Bijan who was a monster with or without a coach. I don't even know if he'd be available, maybe he doesn't go straight back to position coach and tries to land a coordinator position. It was just a question about whether he left on bad terms.

I didn’t even hear Herman was fired. With his career trajectory, I guess Michelle’s gonna have to try and throw him from a Spirit Airlines flight instead of a private plane.

He was paid a 15 million dollar buyout at Texas, on top of multiple years of making 5-6 million a year here. I think there's enough money to keep them in cocaine and private jets for awhile.

If the tweet is accurate, it sounds like the cancer is recurrent and they didn't remove all of the known tumors.

I'll be a dickhead here. I don't much care. Now that I know of her, I wish her well, but there's no reason for going into this on the recruiting board.

If people think Venables may retire because his wife has cancer, that's newsworthy. The details are not.

I hope this comes to fruition.  That would make 3DTs plus one super sized DE in Jackson who could spin down in certain packages.

Still need at least one more but this would be a great get.

Mbatchou is more of the long term development guy considering he's new to the sport, but this defenisve class is really looking fucking awesome right now.

Mbatchou is a very raw prospect, but his physical traits are exceptional. He basically needs to learn the position in its entirety, but physically he’s not too far off.

Regarding Ffrench, something to consider is that $9.95ers are being told things from the Ffrench camp that the Ffrench camp may not be conveying to Texas folks. If true, that's usually not good. One thing that is alleged is that UF and Miami are offering stupid numbers.

If we lose Ffrench do you think we stick with our 2 HS WRs and hit the portal or try to flip Johnson from aggy? Granted, Sarkisian is going to bring in a few WRs from the portal anyway if Golden and Bolden head to the NFL with Bond.

Missouri claimed the ability to make a crazy offer to Wingo last year, late. "Ask them to show you proof that they can make that happen." Missouri responded that they'd "figure it out" and Wingo signed with Texas. Miami and Florida are suddenly throwing around numbers with players that they haven't all cycle. Maybe they've been holding back, maybe they've had an influx of money (you can just feel the excitement around Sun Belt Billy!), or maybe they're doing the same shit as Missouri, which has already gotten UF in trouble before.

On Fasusi, it's far more likely that he signs with Texas or ATM than OU at this point.

I saw an interview with ffrench after Florida’s game on his visit and he said he was locked into Texas about a dozen times because those Florida guys kept asking for some weird reason. And I didn’t believe him for some rea$on. Hope he sticks.

I am sure they'd take Johnson if he wanted to come. I don't think any HS recruiting at WR is going to impact their approach with the portal. If they can add proven difference makers at WR in the portal, they're taking them.

if what we were reading/hearing earlier in the year about him needing to get away from family was true..  Throwing ridiculous numbers by in state schools sounds like throwing gasoline...

I don't think the guy has family in Gainesville. He has family that lives on or near the LSU campus and right around it. UF was never a serious player, but Gville/Jville is like Austin/Houston and would probably be plenty sufficient. Miami might as well be out of state and has always been in consideration.

Would be great if we could convince Golden to stay. He would basically be a portal guy again this year, for all intents and purposes.

His stats aren't eyepopping, but I think he's pretty damned good and has decent measurables. Is he just not getting any kind of draft buzz? I haven't followed the 2025 draft cycle any further than reading the stuff a few guys post on the 2025 thread and that's usually just top 50 lists.

Whittington came back for what equaled a 7th round payout and then he bettered his stock and had the money too. If Golden is getting a 7th/UFA grade, that could be solved. If he's getting 4th-5th round grades, that's a tougher row to hoe.

FWIW - the consensus has him as a 6th round pick.

Jordan Scruggs (Horns 247), on Matthew Golden (and Cam Williams), a week ago.

Yeah, Williams has an interesting choice. Take the late 1st/early 2nd draft grade this season, or come back at LT for Texas and move that grade into the Top 10-15. Obviously, it would be great if he came back because we are already losing 3 other starters to the NFL and graduation.

I wonder if they move Hutson to center fulltime and roll out Williams/Goosby-Umeozulu-Hutson-Campbell-Baker next year.

Golden is a mystery.  He has stats like a 6'7" red zone tight end, but he is fast and can run routes.   Whittington was one of my favorite players ever and got drafted in the 6th last yr.   Great teammate, great blocker, very reliable.  But I would think Golden is going much earlier.    Golden is going to test well too (did Whittington even run?)
