Well, there we go.

All of those buyouts are shameful, including UT’s.

The Fisher buyout was a horrifically bitter pill to swallow for the force behind it, and what ATM traded to get that done may be something they wind up regretting for decades.

If LSU actually found someone willing to front the $61M buyout of Kelly, the cost on the other side for the program would also likely be that above rubies. These deals don’t just happen due to school spirit. All of the lamenting at the media level of the notion of boosters at Texas meddling, which was largely dumb outside the Jamal/Brown bullshit, will look remedial compared to what will start happening at some of these places.

That said, I don’t even think LSU could put together a cabal of folks willing to post that kind of capital. They could be dealing with Kelly on the sidelines for years.

ATM NIL interest is a rollercoaster just like the rest of their program. Suddenly they’re letting Elko offer gobs of money above and beyond what they’d previously proposed to recruits. It functions off of the emotional swings of the traders backing everything for them over the past 7 seasons.

That means that Charles, Fasusi and Townsend, among others, are being given new offers that are straight-up fucking dumb, just like 2022. Same people and forces at play, including Elko, and only sans Fisher.

We’ll see how things wind up. These are camps that already had agreed to good terms with other players and they’re now trying to renegotiate.

How does this square up with them losing Longstreet to USC at the last minute?  Seems they would be going all-in at the QB position given Weigman's performance (or lack thereof) and Reed being OK but not a real game changer.

I know you probably meant Joe Jamail, but I chuckled the thought of Jamaal Charles throwing a Jamail-esqe tantrum as Brown was “killing himself” in Florida.

Fun fact: Ricky Williams is technically a booster and endows a scholarship at the Law School.

It isn’t like Longstreet isn’t going to make a bunch of money at USC. The guy didn’t want to go to ATM if his home favorite was willing to take him.

I know a LSU donor that gets treated like somewhat of a big dog. If I had to guess he's worth somewhere north of 100 mil. Made the vast majority of that himself so he's been generous to the fball program. Was with him last night and he's so pissed about Underwood. He's been negative about NIL from the beginning. He will openly talk about how they just dont have the support. On the other hand, he does a ton of business stuff with UT and A&M guys. He knows the score, he says Bama is in the same boat.

For a coach whose best season is 11-2, has a historical winning percentage of seven out of every 10 games at PSU in a shallow conference, and is more well-known for rape enabling and victim blaming than winning anything of magnitude, that's a pretty damn high buy out.

Then again, Pedo State probably looks at him and thinks:

The folks that worked on Texas's NIL effort in the early days called this.  LSU is clearly shitting the bed ahead of schedule.  Bama seems fine this year recruiting wise but the product on the field isn't the same as when Satan was there.

draft like this would FINALLY kill the development at Texas narrative for good, especially considering Barron was a 3* and Cam Williams was the lowest possible composite 4* at .8911.

Well, now they’ve proven themselves at the sec level, not just the b12.  That’s worth a round or two apparently.

Yep. I think we all have stories like that. At least those of us who have been paying attention. I used to argue with sooners on Hornfans accusing Texas of the ol' "everyone does it" stunt. "If Texas ever decides it has a payroll to meet, you guys and the entire college football landscape are going to know it." Now they all know it.

Darrell Royal’s quote, facing accusations from the Sooners when he complained about Switzer buying players, was, “If I ever turned the Texas Exes loose on buying players, there won’t be any left for anyone else”.

That communicated a couple of things. Frank Erwin was the chairman of the BoR, and didn’t want to see Texas second in anything. There were also powerful governors feeling the same. Royal actually had to use his stature and influence to keep them out of recruiting.

Why? Royal felt he had demonstrated that, given a level playing field, he could win a shit ton of games.

Even though "Texas was gifted the easiest schedule of any SEC school in the history of ever." (per the naysayers) Maybe being in the SEC helped perception more than actual development. But either way, it's great to see how many of our guys have made huge strides.
