You’ve already acknowledged this but that’s not NIL money.  Now that the wealthy can play NFL owner/GM at a much smaller buy-in, in an environment that also benefits and seems more fair to the athletes, I just don’t see public support for going back.

And as a Texas fan, we shouldn’t want that, either purely from self interest or because this new economic reality benefits schools with large and wealthy alumni networks.  If that reinforces a model pushing universities towards growing the alumni base and making their earning potential greater, then great (as thats part of the role of universities, anyway).

The question I have is whether non-corporate NIL survives in a major way post revenue sharing. Andy Reid isn’t out there begging Chiefs fans to crowd source $1 million “NIL deals” to sway free agents. Obviously people are inherently more passionate about their colleges vs pro sports teams (and many college teams aren't in markets that would support corporate NIL), so I suspect the answer is yes, but it’s an odd dynamic nonetheless.

College sports and pro sports remain apples to oranges to the extent that colleges retain an enormous regulatory burden (to say nothing of custom-notice we are still requiring athletes and schools to comply with the NCAA’s degree progress to preserve eligibility).

The beauty of NIL is this facilitates that-if volleyball players feel underpaid because Gatorade doesn’t see the same endorsement value as football then it’s the private market, not the school, that is depriving them of that.

I’m a little skeptical of collegiate athlete endorsement value, which I think will keep the costs low enough that enthusiastic donors and collectives will be able to keep the bigger schools from monopolizing the athlete market (it’ll still be big money but I don’t see Nike paying Michael Jordan money to Arch Manning or Travis Hunter unless they demonstrate it in the NFL).

Weirder to me than NIL is how the revenue sharing will work-that’s potentially a huge expense to the schools, many of whom are already begging for cost relief and have to borrow it from academics.  If universities truly see athletics as the “front door” of the school, we may see athletics need to be brought in more to the university budget rather than kept separate (though UT and Ohio State will likely the the last two standing if this occurs).

It will relieve booster donation fatigue for sure. Collectives will likely still serve as toppers to the revenue splits to go along with corporate. I would personally prefer to see collectives go away, to your point about Reid and the Chiefs. I'm just assuming that the current arms race continues, which means collectives playing a role.

To put it simply, $20M+ is what it takes to have the rosters of Texas and Ohio State this year. The rev share, across all sports, is in the same range. That means going backwards for football and likely basektball for those schools and others approaching them. We'll see.

I would like to see actual collective bargaining and actual corporate NIL and then hard, clear rules for under the table payments as they exist elsewhere. That still doesn't prevent a player getting $100k for an autographed jersey, but it puts a stop to the bag game, real quick. It also truly disincentives boosters from feeling like they have to post big payments as well.

If LSU or ATM is busted paying a handler $50k to lock in a signee and they're banned from a postseason, the player is suspended without pay (these are professional adults getting covered in money now),  and the coach is fined $500k, that shit stops. Bowl bans were one thing, but if now you're prevented from the playoffs, that's going to hurt.

Once they figure out how to herd the cats and get to collective bargaining, they need to look at the NBA, NFL, and EPL for the punitive elements of deviation.

Serious question- How would the NCAA be able to track who's getting money under the table since they did nothing before all of this NIL stuff?

Fuck aggy. They suck, dude. I'm petty. I'm want all of the recruits. So sue me for wanting errrbody and not lose one to a shitty diploma mill. They should suffer 26 lashes from a rattan cane.

Open up your wallet then you chromosomally challenged twat. Let’s see how much you want all the recruits.

A&m a poverty school? It seems like they have a lot of people that give a whole bunch of shits about football. Doesn’t seem like a poverty school to me.

They have a lot of holes on their roster and offer easier paths to play time. We have an nfl draft pick machine running and when a player gets his year he’ll go pro. Just depends on what resonates with the recruits.

Most of us had the wherewithal to put that spastic nitwit on ignore long ago. If you’d do the same this place would be better for it.

I was mostly kidding. They're always talking how they're the richest school in the country but don't have the staff or recruits to show for it.

I agree with the premise but rules didn’t stop bag game before and they wouldn’t stop it now. IMO the only thing that would keep us competitive in your scenario is the collective on top to counter the bag game.

Seriously. So far he claimed Gerry says we’re getting  Hilson (definitely not what Gerry’s saying) and he’s calling A&M a poverty school in NIL.

Anyone dumb enough to waste their time reading and responding to Spider2ybanana deserves what they get.

Why doesn’t the bag game exist in professional sports?

When players have true transparency in how they’re going to be compensated, the effectiveness of offering their family something on the side for a pittance of that compensation, while risking suspension, isn’t going to be there. The black market currently still exists due to a lack of transparency in the process, and that causing ignorance and apprehension for the families. That opens the way handlers to get theirs.

It was a joke about the poverty program since they continue to say they're the richest program, but don't have the recruits to hack it up. Jesus, I can't believe supposed "intelligent" people actually believe anyone thinks they don't have money.

I never said Gerry said we're getting Hilson. Is reading difficult? I said, and I quote "Gerry said he's confident about Hilson", not that we're getting him. Clearly it's a UT/aggy battle, but he spurned aggy to go to Mizzou. It would help if you pulled your head out of your ass and breathed some oxygen. Reading can't be that hard for anyone on this board

Myron Charles note

Texas 4-star++ defensive line commitment Myron Charles (Port Charlotte, Fla./High) is expected to be in Tallahassee today for the FSU vs. Florida game.

Florida also pushing to get Charles on campus Sunday.

We’ll see. Andy Staples was being really fucking cute this week about Florida recruiting. Despite Texas beating the dogshit out of UF, he was acting like the cat that swallowed the canary.
