Texas Recruiting Notes 2025: Duck Around and Find Out

Like many staffs, our coaches saw something to work with regarding Mbatchou, but geez, it’s going to take a long time and a lot of work to get that kid ready to contribute. If he expects to play early, I think he’ll be disappointed. I don’t like losing a recruit, but not going to lose any sleep over it.

GameDay went in on Lane and Ole Miss for faking injuries. ESPN seems opposed. It seems to be a SEC thing. You don’t see it much in Big Ten games. Does ESPN have enough influence to change the rule? Maybe, but it might not be on FOX’s radar.

I think I counted 3 B10 teams in the top 50 in plays

SEC has four in the top 20

Ohio State is 111/134

Oregon is 55

Michigan is 124

Purdue is 133

Iowa is 128

Northwestern is 117

Minnesota is 111

Ill is 115

Its not a B10 issue because they play extremely, extremely slow overall. No need to fake an injury in that situation when everyone let's the clock run down and never goes tempo

14/23 seems medium fish.

He was 5-star in 2026 before he reclassified.

With Jerry doing the 100% gone and saying a small fish

i think it’s Mills, due to the fact we’re getting Fassusi and it was mutual Parting to add him

Wasn't Michigan a "finalist" for Mills?

National Signing Day 2025: Where Texas commits stand as other programs try to flip

Quote

We saw four-star defensive lineman Joseph Mbatchou flip to Florida on Sunday evening, just eight days after committing to Texas. The Gators were his original pledge and held a special place in his heart.

But that begs the question, where does the rest of Texas' class stand with less than 72 hours to go until pen meets paper.

Here's some quick hitters as of 6:57 p.m. CT on Sunday night:

-- Nobody can confirm if Myron Charles was at Florida State on Saturday night. Mystery Myron. It doesn't really matter either way. Florida is the competition. Several sources close to the Texas program feel as though the Port Charlotte (Fla.) standout will remain with UT when all is said and done.

-- There's been plenty of chatter when it comes to five-star wide receiver Jaime Ffrench and his commitment status. He returned to Austin last weekend for the Kentucky game, making it two visits to the Forty Acres in November alone. He was also in town for the Georgia game. Sources close to his recruitment would be very surprised if he didn't sign with the Longhorns on Wednesday. That's not going to keep Florida from trying. UF could be in line to flip his teammate Hylton Stubbs as well. Again, Ffrench is saying all the right things when it comes to UT. He also didn't take any visits this weekend to our knowledge.

-- Four-star tight end Nick Townsend is locked in with the Longhorns. He and his family were in College Station last night to many UT fans' discomfort. Watching UT throttle A&M for the better part of four quarters only helped Texas.

"Nick already firmly committed to Texas after the tight decision between Texas and A&M months ago," his mother Olivia told Horns247 on Sunday. "The game last night was just the icing on the cake for the Townsend Family. From here it can only get better and we look forward to 2025 with much anticipation and excitement."

-- Four-star safety Zelus Hicks unofficially visited Florida two weekends ago before returning to Austin for the Kentucky game on his official visit. The Gators worked to get Hicks back on campus this weekend for a one-day official visit when the program returned home from Tallahassee. It doesn't appear as though he made that visit. Either way, there's confidence among sources that Hicks is set with Texas.

-- Four-star defensive lineman Josiah Sharma made a surprise Sunday visit to USC. That's not great if you ask me. There's very little coming out of that trip at this point in terms of information. You can bet the Trojans are probably upping the NIL down the stretch to build out their 2025 recruiting class. Sharma has ties in the Folsom program either committed to the Trojans or trending towards the Trojans. He's now one to watch closely down the stretch.

-- Horns247 noted another Texas commit that's likely to flip elsewhere. We should see an announcement from him soon. It's his news to share.

Texas needs to keep what they have in the fold

“Talking to a source on Sunday morning, the Longhorns appear to be in good position to keep receiver Jaime Ffrench and defensive tackle Myron Charles in the fold. Both have been flirting with Florida and while the Gators have had the Midas touch late, the vibe around Texas is they’re still strong in their pledge.

Same goes for guys like tight end Nick Townsend, defensive lineman Josiah Sharma and safety Zelus Hicks who have either taken some other trips or kept a program or two warm.”

The last bullet point would lead me to believe it's not FF, Charles, Townsend, Sharma or Hicks and it a TBD player

I'd totally be ok with the Fasusi for Mills swap. That would us up to #3 in 247.
