I was more worried last year than I'll be this year. Have 4-5 EDGE players that will be completely fine. DT is more of a question mark, but we had two guys transfer in this year that have given us the snaps and run protection we need, so I am confident in getting at least one next year too. Still got plenty of development guys waiting to get their moment to shine like January and Mitchell. Them playing more as the season progresses gives me hope that they'll be ready for big minutes next year.

lol wut.

If we only get one solid DT in the portal, we will be screwed. We got good production from Lole and Norton this year as backups. Collins and Broughton took huge steps forward and are the stars of the IDL.  There's nobody on the roster ready to have anywhere near the year that Collins and Broughton had. You cited Mitchell who very well may not be on the roster next year. January looks ready to contribute, but who knows if he's ready to start. After that, it's bleak. If all we get is one guy like Lole plus what we have currently on the roster, then we will be in a terrible spot at DT.

To be fair, Collins was actually highly graded by PFF last year. He was more of a known commodity. Broughton was a pleasant surprise. There is also another big difference. Broughton and Collins are 5 year players. That played a lot of football. That is not the case for next year. Savea is the only one that fits the mold of an older player with a lot of snaps (assumes he is red shirting like OnTexas has said). Texas needs at least 2 DTs next year. Its much harder to bet on underclassmen to make big jumps on the LOS.

I hope if we face oregon we beat the absolute living fuck out of them and I want the score ran up so hard that the refs have to call the game in the 3rd

Isn’t the idea of having to choose because of finite dollars exactly what it means to not be able to match?  Obviously Texas has to make the same decisions but let’s not try to talk around what is happening. Couldn’t afford to match without losing something  elsewhere.

Or, he saw that he could do the same thing he wanted to go to LSU for at his preferred school. The secondary is a big reason why the Texas defense is balling out. Believing he could play and be developed at corner at his preferred school is huge.
LSU’s secondary and defense are still looking for answers after getting gashed multiple times this year.

Unless something has changed very recently, they don’t want Savea back unless they’re desperate.

Texas NIL did not make anything resembling a 7 figure offer for Phillips. Shipp’s a proven liar and this reads like more nonsense or someone lying to him in Kelly’s world. Raymond isn’t exactly a high character guy, so that could well be the source. Just bullshit.

Bobby mentioned in the last week that Savea was redshirting to return next year.  What are you hearing?  Can't remember for sure, but I feel like he blew up the line in the spring game on Ewers' interception but that could've been Collins.

I could see it, what other DL even looks like an option at this time?

Considering it seems like Malcolm Simpson isn’t going to get the grades, there’s not a ton. Maybe you circle back to Chace Sims to see if he’s receptive but pickings are getting mighty slim.

Hilson is all over the place fielding offers, which is unfortunate considering what was said regarding much of his recruitment.
Hope it works out for him

He has had a new favorite every week.  That's not a great sign.

Gerry said this morning he would be shocked if he remains at Texas. Reading the tealeaves, we aren't interested.

It's like Phil Knight and Larry Ellison woke up this morning with a vial full of viagra and decided college football was one big pussy, waiting to get fucked.

Nate Marshall to Michigan, who was pursuing Hilson, who now has brought up Missouri to maximize his bidding offers from Texas and A&M? Lol. I mean why not, they just took Rogers from Missouri, Missouri now has some spare coin and a big ole' desire to fuck A&M. This is fun shit.

I love this woman.  Living the life that are unimaginable for many and all she wants is a QB to save their recruiting.  I guarantee you she posts on some UM message board.

How can you not love College Football?

We are one day out from what will likely end up being a marathon of a day.

Our @Gerry Hamilton has done a tremendous job of setting the table for what the recruiting world is looking like in regards to Texas at the moment. If you have yet to check out his post from this morning and the recruiting percentages, do so before moving forward.

***

On the topic of 5-star ATH Michael Terry III, this recruitment has felt very similar to that of Kobe Black's from a year ago. Texas has been a leader for Terry for a few months and a decision date has continued to linger on and on.

I have received additional confirmation that Oregon is looking to make a play to sway the decision back in their favor. Terry has not been to Oregon since late July, meaning he did not see a game at Autzen Stadium during the 2024 season. Terry did, however, visit two games in Austin this season where he was enamored by the stadium atmosphere following the Georgia game in mid-October.

Oregon's surge here also means there is a bit of a fade from Nebraska, who just fired its wide receivers coach Monday afternoon. This is also notable because there was a key player or two in the Terry camp that had previously been nudging in the direction of the Cornhuskers. Texas continues to have the advantage in proximity and the length of their pursuit here. Still lean Texas.

***

Now for five-star Michael Fasusi.

To be upfront about Fasusi, I have long believed he would be a Sooner for as long as Bill Bedenbaugh was in Norman. That continues to be where my mind leans at the moment, but there remains fluidity with the Sooners' coaching staff after hiring Arbuckle to be the offensive coordinator from Washington State.

I have swung this recruitment to a Texas vs. Oklahoma battle for the final 24 hours. This was even prior to the addition of Lamont Rogers for Texas A&M as well. At the end of the day, it would come as no surprise to me if Fasusi remained committed to Oklahoma, but Texas is working hard to pull off the flip after the departure of John Mills from the 2025 class.

With the mention of Mills, a possible addition of Fasusi lessens the possibility of Nick Brooks looking around late in the cycle as well. Previously, that had been something floated as a concern if Texas' OL grew to six.

Brooks is expected to participate in the signing day festivities at Grayson High School tomorrow at 1:30 p.m. CST.

Gerry is reporting that Oregon, with Phil Knight personally involved, has made a huge offer to Michael Terry. Awesome.

I believed two years ago that the B1G screwed up by giving Oregon a home.

UT and USC bring new competition to a conference, sure. They also bring new recruiting territories. And huge viewerships.

Oregon brings none of that. They get their recruits in other areas, because they don’t have enough in Oregon.

The B1G could have let them wither in a lesser conference, and lost nothing. But they let them join and they use that Nike money to pluck top recruits from other areas.
