The "Gist" at the beginning of the article is waaay more bullish than the rest of the article. I was halfway to full mast only before I started reading all that hedging.

Updating this:

OTF spoke with someone very close to the Williams recruitment.

What we reported this morning from Galveston Ball High practice is where Jonah's head/intentions are at right now. He really wants to play college football. And he currently plans to play both in college.

One other note ... should Jonah's decision to play both football and baseball in college stick, that makes travel for a family that lives near Galveston much more difficult.

Jonah will announce his decision August 24.

If Williams enrolls in December and plays college baseball in the spring, then he would forego the MLB draft for 3 years.

Which he probably should do. He has potential, but is super raw. Guys with extreme tools and potential without otherworldly production at the high school level are being deprioritized now in the MLB draft. 10 years ago, he's a first or second rounder.

If he's an above-average LHP for the baseball team and a starter on the defensive side of the ball in football, he'll make a shit ton in NIL at Texas. Sure, he'll have to work his ass off, but he would anyways to make it to the big leagues if he turned pro at 18 in baseball.

There are so many red flags in this thing. So now he is going to enroll 6 weeks before the college baseball season starts after playing HS football all fall and try to participate in spring football practice at the same time? So, his freshman year in baseball will basically be a throwaway year, which is a great way to start as someone who is going to try to play both sports at a high level in an era where you rarely see anyone do it.

I’d have him pitch and bring him along really slowly. But I agree, playing a position is going to be extremely difficult. And even then, most of his peers play competitive baseball year round.

Correct. So he's going to try to balance both in the spring after enrolling in January, likely won't play summer ball anywhere as he tries to establish himself on the football field, then likely won't pick up a baseball in the fall as his head swims from being a freshman football player.

The path for this ending well is extremely narrow, and this doesn't even factor in the position question mark on the football field with him preferring safety but probably being a better fit at LB.

At this point, Williams should only be regarded as entertainment. If Texas lands him, it will drive some other fans nuts and the hype will help in the class. Beyond that, expectations for value of any sort should be through the floor. And if he goes elsewhere, we’ll get to watch some idiots not understand why he likely busts out.

Per Hank South (Horns 247)

"As Horns247 has reported several times throughout the summer, there's been growing optimism about Texas' chances here talking to several sources close to the recruitment."

ON KALIQ LOCKETT  -

Mike Raoch (247Sports National Reporter)

- With less than 48 hours to go for his announcement, Mike Roach reiterated that he "really likes" where Texas stands w/ Lockett.  Ironic, but when 'ol Streets has chosen to make a strong prediction, he has been pretty accurate.

Andrew Hattersley (Aggie 247)

"Heading into Wednesday's decision though, Texas looks to be the team to beat after missing out on Dakorien Moore in early July."

Brett Greenberg (Bama 247)

The primary competition is Alabama.  Here's a note from a few days ago, on Lockett.

Texas vs. Texas A&M battle?

The recruitment of D.J. Sanders is scheduled to conclude on August 8, sometime after the sun goes down (subject to change in timing).

The latest Intel OnTexasFootball has gathered in the last 12’ish hours is that there are a couple of key people close that aren’t in favor of Michigan.

Texas has been in contact with D.J. and his circle in the last 24 hours. The same can be said for Texas A&M.

If the key people continue to believe Michigan is not where the 6-4.5, 315 pounder needs to be, this one is headed for a Texas vs Texas A&M decision.

There remains some cautious optimism in Austin. With that said, OTF is in wait and see mode for its this decision.

Interesting snippet that could apply to Nick Brooks, from Benjamin Wolk (Staff - Georgia/Dawgs 247)

image.thumb.png.e3034ef0dabf4b723d9ed641caa6e257.png

(They currently have 4 OL - two listed as OTs - committed in this class.)

The same staffer - Wolk - didn't have Brooks in his mock class for Georgia, a couple of days ago.

Have not seen a response yet, to the question below:

image.png.0f0f8cfdcfc11abbe0f551ab7c3c2a05.png

And this, FWIW, from Hank South (Horns 247).  It's from the Brooks/decision date thread.

Edit- at least you didn't give me a list of various suburbs and surrounding incorporated areas along with average commute time to downtown. That's progress

Galveston to Austin ~3.5 hours

Galveston to Baton Rouge ~4.5 hours

Galveston to College Station ~2.5 hours

Can't imagine travel time is that big of a factor when looking at these three. It would certainly eliminate Oregon and USC though
