The rankings services lowered Hicks rating a ton after they reclassified him.

I get it might not be the exact same because it’s all relative, but his 247 composite rating went from .9825 all the way down to .9132. Seems silly.

So his pro potential* had the floor drop out of it…

…okay… 🙄

*how ratings are supposedly calculated.

Interesting - I assume he is lower on the board than Sanchez and Brew. I wish LSU would fall apart. DJ Pickett, Aidan Anding, Jacob Bradford, and Kade Phillips are all quality prospects.

Give it time. They know the portal exists. That ship will be in titanic-mode soon enough.

Not sure when Roster of 105 may go into effect...

"SEC coach says expectation is rosters remain at 85 scholarship players in 2025"

https://footballscoop.com/news/sec-coach-says-expectation-is-rosters-remain-at-85-scholarship-players-in-2025

(Old article on roster changes in link below)

While college football parameters have shifted to allow schools, as part of the ongoing House-NCAA settlement and expected revenue-sharing distribution to expand from 85 scholarships to a fully funded 105-man squad Freeze said it has been indicated that the model has not advanced to that point.

We were already going to go to the portal for a speedster at receiver. I think it was cooked into the 2025 recruiting class that we'd lose 1 or 2 receivers to the portal.

If he were a speedster, he would have seen the field more.
He’s a really good route runner with good twitch, but not a burner. He also is a less than willing blocker due to his below average physicality overall.
Weird to see him leave in the middle of a playoff run, but the writing was on the wall. He has a big personality, so maybe he was turning into a locker room cancer.

What are you talking about?

I'm talking about our team planning to already go to portal for a WR so it doesn't have any affect on our 2025 recruiting. He has only got like 11 snaps in the last 4 games....writing was on the wall might as well prepare for your next destination and the way CJ and Gerry are talking about it maybe his personality and such were negative in the locker room.

Texas kicking the tires on a kicker in the 2025 class, per 247

Texas signed one specialist on scholarship last cycle in punter Michael Kern.

The Longhorns added another via the preferred walk-on route in local kicker Spencer Barnett. Now, Texas could potentially be in play to make a move on another specialist in 2025. Iowa kicker commit Scott Starzyk appears to be on the radar as a possible late add.

Sources relay to Horns247 that there could be a window of opportunity to flip The Woodlands product as December draws closer.

Texas and Texas A&M are the two schools to watch, we're told.

Michigan made a run at Starzyk earlier this fall but came up short. One source believes the Lone Star state product would like to stay closer to home. The Under Armour All-American kicker remains pledged to the Hawkeyes at this point, but he's another 2025 recruit worth watching down the stretch if he opens his process back up.

He's supposed to be the real deal, at least in the sense that he's a kicker prospect I've actually heard of.

Folks seem intent on believing that there are going to be a few late breaking surprises in Texas' favor for this 2025 class, mostly because it's happened in every class prior to this one. Maybe that's the case via Fasusi or something. I don't have the same POV as others for this cycle, however.

USC has a LB commit that we should be working hard on. And of course, we need to find CBs somewhere.

A complete implosion in the final stretch of games for OU will lead to Bedenbaugh being shown the door and could be enough to persuade Fasusi to reconsider.

I expect them to win out against [checks schedule] Missouri, Alabama, and LSU.

Anytime ATM gets hot, so does their access to NIL. Interest undulates with losses, though. They seem more volatile on that end than places who have focused on a foundation. The Elk clearly also sees the world as Jimbo did - you must sign all of the DTs and Edges, even if it is at the expense of everything else.

It'll be interesting to see if Elko overemphasizes DL to the full extent Jimbo did while at A&M.  Elko has always preferred to play 4 DL that are all over 270 so he can stop the run with 4 and get the offense into 3rd and 6+ where he can bring his disguised blitzes. He might be the best coach in the country at timing disguised blitzes and getting pressure with 4 or 5 on passing downs, but if you're going to trot out 4 DL at 270+, you are usually going to need to the edges to be 5 stars if you want them to be that size and have a pass rush. He was fortunate Shemar Stewart came back for another year and a first round DE in Scourton being from College Station was available this year. Next year will be a lot tougher for him. There's no one on the current roster who can do what they do. I expect A&M to spend huge on at least one DE in the portal and HS recruiting.

Obviously, going full Jimbo would hurt him elsewhere. They don't seem to be able to land WRs to save their life so maybe Elko/Klein give up and put all the WR money into the DL bucket.

Someone should also let him know, maybe, that there is a lot of pussy in Austin as well. I mean, don't ask Carl to do it, but you get what I'm saying.

It's the THOT that counts...

Is this really happening? I get that their Oline was a disaster, but how much of that is on him and how much on their NIL and scholarship allocation? He's got to be the most accomplished assistant on their staff and has churned out a ton of NFL guys. I realize that Venables is a bona fide dipshit, but if you are going to find sacrificial lambs, this guy seems like the last one you would choose.

Don't act like you're unfamiliar with the year 3 coaching staff shuffle.

His recruiting sucked for a couple of years before the 2025 class and the guys he went after in the portal also weren't good.  That played a role in their offense being so bad.  Venables may need another scalp to buy himself another year.

Sooners Illustrated folks sure seem to think that Bedenbaugh's future is hanging in the balance. He fully shit the bed with his roster management for multiple years and now the second biggest problem, according to their fans, behind all of those dadgummed injuries has been the OL.

As others have noted, Venables is going to purge most of his offensive staff due to scapegoating needs.

Ascending cornerback prospect with the ideal mix of size and speed. Put himself on the national radar spring before senior season, clocking a laser-timed 4.51 effort in the 40-yard dash at an Under Armour Next Camp outside of Orlando. Comfortable at this stage in press-man coverage as he fights for leverage and does his best to maintain phase while out on the perimeter. Not a ton of ball production to date (only had one interception as a junior), but is competitive when the football is in the air and will do his best to shade throwing lanes. Tries to get off blocks and will use his turbo to get across the field and make tackles in pursuit. Should be viewed as a potential multi-year starter at the Power Four level and a possible all-conference selection if he can keep progressing. Likely to find the most success in a defensive scheme that wants to man-up on the outside and get aggressive, but could also always get a look over the top with his range.

Also runs track.
Posted a 10.91 effort in the 100-meter dash and a 50.30 effort in the 400-meter dash as a junior.
----
2023: Starting CB for a Tampa Wharton squad that made Florida’s 3M playoffs. Credited with 30 tackles and an INT. Also had a KORTD.

Was Jimbo like that at FSU, or pre/post Elk?  Like I'm wondering if it was Elk all along and he influenced Jimbo, who already had a hard on for 5 stars and didn't care about character issues... (there is a book out now called "The Price" which has a whole chapter on Jimbo and that 2022 class/fight w Saban)
