His stats aren't eyepopping, but I think he's pretty damned good and has decent measurables. Is he just not getting any kind of draft buzz? I haven't followed the 2025 draft cycle any further than reading the stuff a few guys post on the 2025 thread and that's usually just top 50 lists.

Whittington came back for what equaled a 7th round payout and then he bettered his stock and had the money too. If Golden is getting a 7th/UFA grade, that could be solved. If he's getting 4th-5th round grades, that's a tougher row to hoe.

He's definitely considered a day 3 pick right now. It's really hard to say whether that's more like round 5 or 7. I'm sure he'd run a good 40 time, but the other testing numbers aren't as certain. Considering his size and mediocre production, he'd have to test off the charts to go in Day 2. It would be great if we can convince him to stay and be more of a focal point next year. He'd make himself millions in guaranteed money if he can put together one year of great production.

I think it depends on Jayden Blue. If he comes back I don’t think they take a portal  rb.

I think after this year, Jaydon Blue won’t impact Sark’s decision making as far as securing a stronger running game.

They plan on working with Terry in the backfield quite a bit, plus the other 2 TB signees, plus Gibson, plus Baxter coming back and Wisner being an experienced starter. Unless there's a chance to land a proven badass for cheap in the portal, the portal focus is going to be elsewhere. Specifically, DT, WR, and STs. Targets of opportunity at any position will be a part of the mix.

Can we get a punter?  Kern has been bad.  That seems like an easy upgrade in the portal that should not cost much.  Would not be against getting an experienced kicker also.  Unless Auburn can and wants to come back.  I see he played one game only in 2021.

Pretty sure he's been injured - or isn't fully recovered from whatever injury he had.  He missed two games (OU and Georgia) and then in the three games he's been back hasn't booted a ball longer than 42 yards.  His average for the most recent three games is 38.3 yards per punt as opposed to the 42.8 he averaged before the injury.

Regardless - he never had the strongest leg.  He was supposed to be a guy who could pin them inside the 20 with regularity.

So, we need a punter

I'll be a dickhead here. I don't much care. Now that I know of her, I wish her well, but there's no reason for going into this on the recruiting board.

If people think Venables may retire because his wife has cancer, that's newsworthy. The details are not.

What if she has cancer BECAUSE of Venables, did you think of that?

If we decide to hit the portal for a young Sark-model RB, I wouldn't be disappointed with Isaac Brown from Louisville. Deadly on swing passes and quick hitters, with tremendous burst. Miami I suspect will try to get him back home to South Florida, so let's draw him west instead.

These rankings updates that are coming out have got me thinking about our OL class. Brooks seems like the highest ranked across the services, but he's not particularly high. I know rankings are rankings, and we're still after Fasusi, but the difference with other position groups caught my attention. Everyone feeling good about the OL class?

Connor Williams was a solid player for us as soon as he hit campus as a fall enrollee. He was a 3 star.
Sam Cosmi, 3 star.

Hayden Conner was a 5 star at one point in his recruitment, finished a 3 star, and he’s a 3+ year starter for us.

Tyler Johnson, borderline 5 star

Bryce Foster, Patrick Hudson, Kam Dewberry, Savion Byrd, etc.

Recruiting services are all over the place when it comes to OL.
As long as the eval is solid, and they’re hitting on their guys, I’m not worried about the rankings.

Flood picked his guys and pretty much got his top choices locked down immediately. Seems fine.

Between this and Ffrench, it's almost like we didn't just beat the shit out of them a little over a week ago.

Nahlin said one of his sources compared Charles to Bear Alexander, jokingly saying, “you know he’s going to play for four different schools , right?”

OL is the only position where I "trust the coaches" because Flood's so good and OL recruiting is such a crap shoot. For every Kelvin Banks, there's a Mason Walters. Hell, DJ Campbell was rated higher than Banks on most services. Let Flood get his guys and shoot the moon for Fasusi.

This is a pretty good RB draft class, especially compared to last year. I just don’t see how Blue is more than a 7th round/UDFA guy right now. Maybe he is cool with that and ready to get his pro career started. I get that for a RB. He doesn’t play special teams, struggles with ball security and doesn’t have much production compared to many of the other guys coming out. His calling hard will be his speed but is that enough to get him drafted? I know some will try to make the Keilan Robinson comparison but that dude was a special teams demon.

I wouldn’t be upset if Blue does come back but there will definitely be RB attrition if that is the case. You would have 7 scholarship guys at the position and at least 4 of them would be expecting to see meaningful carries in 2025.

Cool site - thanks

In case anyone is interested, we currently have (in their meta view):

1st round: 4 (both OTs, Ewers, bond

Day 2: 2

Day 3: 3

Total of 9 against last year's 12

It’s too early to see meaningful draft data points except from a select few people (I like Dane Brugler) and even those are limited to the first couple rounds.
That database has 200+ team specific mock drafts included in its consensus. A bunch of Browns, Raiders, and Jaguars fans that have already given up on their seasons and are comforting themselves with November mock drafts provide provide no value lol. Hence Sorrell being labeled a UDFA and Majors not even being listed

We’re much better served giving our own opinions than listening to most draft talk at this point

Mr. Brown, you sir are no Mr. Deaunte Chatman. Good luck with your son's portal recruiting.

I definitely currently "trust the coaches" at RB, WR, Edge/DE, and LB.

  • Choice seems to always nail his evals (yes, wording, but IDGAF)
  • Sark seems to always get productive WRs; from the high school ranks, as well as the portal
  • DE recruiting has been stellar the past couple of years, with early contributors and portal players mixed in
  • LB has great early contributors and good development

I don't really understand this year's OL class. If we add Fasusi, that changes. However, pretty much all the current takes appear like projects to me. Now, we have some depth at tackle and promising young players across the line, so maybe it doesn't matter that much. I'll definitely defer to "trust the coaches" here too. Flood has earned that.

I recently watched a recruiting review of Texas from 247 ( I think it was them) and the had the same sentiment as you do regarding the OL.  They were mystified by what Texas was doing there.  They really like the rest of the class though.

It makes sense that a recruiting service would be mystified at our OL class. If they weren’t, it would be admitting they don’t know jack about jack when it comes to OL evaluations.

As we gut out the final two weeks of flips, I still have the belief that if a player flips twice or more, then the odds of success for that player in the long term go down substantially. One flip is fine. Two or more is a red flag. I refuse to provide any data to backup my assertion.

Aren't we thinking (hoping) 2027 draft for Arch?

Unless his dream team gets the #1 pick in the 2026?
Someone needs to investigate who his top five favorite teams might be, so we can track their suck progress.

I asked Gemini for a "Suck for Luck" for Arch and this was one of its suggestions:
"March to the Bottom, Draft Arch, and Then We'll Blossom"

It did a little better with  "Planning for Manning" but not by much.
