It's a "thing" now to trick out lever-actions.  In some ways, I get it.  If I was in bear country, bad weather, especially at night, give me the option above vs. the one out of the box.  After all, it's the caliber you are needing, and a lever beats a bolt-gun in terms of capacity and speed for a 45-70 or .450 Marlin.

No more wood to crack/warp, a red-dot on a rifle beats irons every time, a light for low visibility, extra rounds mounted on the gun for faster reloads - it all makes sense.....IF.....you use these add-ons for what they are designed to do, and not just have it look cool.

Yeah, I get it.  You make the correct point that it's just aesthetics.  A sleeve of rounds on the butt stock.  Par for the course.  It's the skeletonized stock and attachments that put people off.  Again, If I was up in the mountains or needed a truck/cabin gun in that caliber.  I'd have to give it a look.  It's the light and red dot that in my mind make it superior to a classic version.  As the old saying goes, can't hit what you can't see.  Wolves messing around at night with livestock nearby, or a bear rummaging through the trash.  As momma used to say, most bad things happen at night.

It just goes back to using these tools are they are designed, or just looking cool.

Sure, you’d have a polymer stock, a red dot, and a light. You would also have the big loop, without a little craft braid of paracord in the way.

As built, that is a clown gun. It looks like one of those guns that gets posted in a Facebook group about cars that gets taken over by incels*.

*this is a real thing that happens. There’s a lot of sad young men out there.

Not my dime, but yeah.  Small loops are hard enough without losing more space to a braid on the lever

When I was looking for a handgun last year, I looked at Canik and was able to shoot several.   The trigger is really good.  I ended up going with the Walther PDP because

1.  I got a hellacious deal on it.

2.  While the Walther is a polymer pistol too, the Canik felt kind of cheap.

Y’all will like this.  I won my FFL season this year with a bunch of Longhorn alums in the league. It’s customary for the champ to buy a bar tab for the local guys that can make it.

Instead I’m buying range time at Eagle Peak in Leander for a good old fashioned shootem’ up!  Probably 7 or 8 of us will go with a substantial arsenal.

should be fun!

It's funny you mentioned Eagle Peak. Use to hang out there when I lived in Cedar Park. It's where I taught CHIEF Jr. to shoot. I cleaned out all of the old business cards, and expired health insurance cards out of my wallet yesterday. Still had my Eagle Peak membership card, figured I would probably never be going back, so I threw it in the trash.

I have been trying to find a Winchester Safari Express in .375 H&H. I have read they are still in production, but no one actually has one in stock. Anyone have any insight on what is going on?

Posted

I put 20 rounds through my 375 last weekend. I have decent reloading experience with it and have been hunting with it several times over the last 6 years. I’m actually looking at doing a new 375 rifle build in another year or so. There’s options beyond Winchester I can list if you’re interested, and I’m at your service if you have any questions. Africahunting.com is also a great resource.

Reds indoor range has a brand new 2004 model (yes been there 20 years) rifle that I thought was in 375 H&H. I am not positive and also not positive on brand. Might give them a call - it’s for sale but they have never lowered the price. Just sits there. But brand new - worth a shot.

I appreciate it, but I’m wanting something from post 2010. From what I’m reading that is when they introduced the Safari Express (prior to that date I believe they were called super express). The newer models are controlled feed, have the matte black finish, and the front swivel is on the barrel not the stock.
It also has the shorter barrel. Which makes carrying it easier than the Alaskan that I currently have. Again, thanks for the heads up.

Here you go.  One coming for auction this month.

Also - They may not meet specs above but Pre64win.com has 3-4 original .375s for sale right now.  At least worth a look.
you could call it an investment!!!!!

He’s redoing a .300 for me right now.  Someone buggared it up  to make a truck gun and I’m taking back to as built.

While running thru my usual "keeping an eye out for list" the other day, I saw one one of the tacticool Mad Pig rifles for $10,500.

I took a break from my P-gun quest and bought a really nice 25-06 a few weeks ago, but don't have login to surly on my phone anymore.  Really nice stock, really, really nice checkering.  Has a couple spots on the bluing that will need to be addressed.     Missed on a .243 with one of most beautiful maple stocks I've ever seen.  I was hoping no one had really seen it (only 2-3 guys going back and forth and still well under priced) then it jumped about $2500 on the last few hours and ended mid 3's.  Fucking craziness.

26-06 is such a great round.   If you handload you can get “close” to the .257 weatherby.    Friend has one and it’s all he shoots now.   Flat and fast.   Not much else you ask for.

Outside of maybe 2-3 hunts where I was playing with a new to me Custom Sako .243, I shoot my 257 wby.  Probably 95% of the pigs and deer I've taken in the last decade have been with that wby.   But I don't disagree, very close round.  I just liked the rifle.   And the prize i really was chasing was the .243, but not for that money.  I have several .243's and no 25-06, so not the worst thing in the world.  Funny I've owned a 6.5-06 for almost a decade as well, but not its easier to get shells for cousin.

I put a shootout on the Katy together at Athena a few months back for a friend with terminal cancer.  It was awesome.  We had a small arsenal of handguns and modern sporting rifles.  My buddy hadn't shot his pistol in a few years out of concern for his chemo port.  He proudly hung his target on the fridge for the remaining three months of his life.  RIP Sarge

I'm not mad at that Keltec.  Having 20 rounds of 5.7 in a compact pistol weighing less than 14oz empty is pretty cool.

Handy little sucker to have out hiking or hunting.  It would be hell on a group of hogs.

Now, granted that the 20 rounds of 5.7 cost more than the gun, but it wouldn't be a bad choice to throw in a truck or have around the camp.

This gun may get around some bullshit state laws limiting magazine capacity as we don’t have a magazine here. I haven’t researched this issue, but props to KelTec for looking for loopholes if this is part of their intent.  How common it for someone to have to change mags during a self defense incident? I’ll bet not many.  This thing holds 20 rounds so you have some self defense firepower.

Kel-Tec in .22mag is awesome.  30 rounds, mag weighs more than the gun, and a foot-long flame out of the barrel with zero recoil is not awful.  Carry a spare mag or two, and you're ready for a small zombie horde.

Hadn’t thought about carrying a tourniquet or a first aide kit around my my vehicles, but have a flashlight, folding knife, and a roll of toilet paper in both.
Also a compact lithium battery with jumper cables.

Maybe I should look around for a couple of the first aid kits, as my son had to use his belt to tie around his upper thigh when he sawed through his femoral artery 12 years ago (while working alone inside a vacant house).

When I’m hunting in a remote area (no cell signal and/or hours for an ambulance), I always carry a tourniquet. I don’t worry too much about band aids /blisters, etc. But fractures resulting in ruptured arteries or an incidental GSW to a limb that results in bleeding out are catastrophic problems that I’d like to have a solution for.

I built a trauma kit for my truck after watching a drugged up guy in a brodozer run over the front of a small suv smashing the dash into the legs of the passenger. It was right in front of a hospital and a first responder was gloving up and climbing in the driver side as I was trying to use a old towel I had grabbed from my truck to stop an arterial bleed. She didn’t have anything with her and the towel was it until EMTs arrived. I was involved with scouts at that time and decided I needed to be better prepared for a trauma type situation.

I got a small tactical pouch and added:

1x CAT tourniquet
2x Israeli compression bandage
1x Halo chest seal
2x 5x5 gauze
2x packing gauze
2x gauze wrap
2x sets nitrile gloves
1x Coban wrap
1x emt shears

This separate from a basic IFAK also kept in the truck.

Govt made were there's no service you should still be able to call 911. I mean if you need a tourniquet kit, you deal with that fiirst, obviously, but still give a call.

I'm not saying it would the the only full auto I'd like to own.  It would be a top loading maching gun I'd like to own.  Right along it Lewis gun, this is one of the cooler looking machine guns from WWII out there even it wasn't as portable as a FG 42 or BAR.   The list of full auto guns I'd love to have is long and distinguished, unlike my johnson.
