Nope……
My brother donated it to the Camp Mabry Military Museum in Austin about 25 years ago.
We checked on it about 10 years ago and their computer records said it was still stored in their vault. As far as we know it has never been put on display in any of the exhibits.

Shame… assume that’s not what you all intended when making the donation?

Anyone here interested in old S&W 5906 style pistols? Thinking of selling.

If so I’ll come back with pics

We had no idea if they would display it or not - it had no history with the Texas 36th Division.
But neither of us really wanted to keep it.

Was it full auto or had it been de-miled?

Full auto when dad brought it home, but Grandpa used some brass to plug the breech which made it a legal DEWAT (Deactivated War Trophy).
We had an “approval” letter from the FBI stating such.

Was that required by law, or would you have had to get a Class III to keep it full auto?

I don’t know, as I was only 1 year old when he brought it home from France.

I believe you can take a deactivated war trophy that has been registered with the NFA and convert it back to a functional firearm by paying the $200 tax. The cost to register it back in the day as a deactivated trophy was free. That thing would be worth big bucks today even in its deactivated status.

I ordered a HK 416 .22lr pistol over the weekend.  I wanted something to plink with at a lower ammo cost.   I also found a Crimson Trace red dot for a ridiculous price (regular price is $350ish, got it for $110 with tax and shipping).   I'm going to throw a buffer tube/brace on it to add some length.   I'd love to put a folding brace on it but the quality ones are expensive.   Thoughts on running an 8.5" 22lr with a suppressor?

If this is turns out like I hope, I'll probably SBR my 12.5 CMMG Mk4 5.56 and get rid of the brace on that.

World War 1 was a long time ago.

Everyone should also know that the 1911 market is bad right now and going to get worse - if you want one look for sales.

DS1911 will eat up their space.

How bad?  Like prices up double digits (10-15%) or 50% bad?

Probably talked to one of their counter guys and couldn't take it any longer.

If you want to get talked down to by someone that doesn't know what they are talking about for an already overpriced item, McBrides is your jam.....

Because of the flood of competition from Turkey?

That’s some of it but other things:
Low capacity
Mainly 45
Tons of supply even domestic
Older people (fans) getting dead

If you wanted a 9mm 1911 just get a 2011.

I think it's the surging popularity and efficacy of the 9mm.  Modern rounds check all the boxes that the larger .45 acp used to fill.  Penetration/expansion/kinetic energy similarities, with twice the capacity and half the recoil?

Yeah. The 9mm cartridge has benefitted most probably from tech advancement in the handgun space.

We’re dropping the first fully ambi 2011 into the market in 60 days - impossible on a traditional 1911 platform.

This came into my range earlier in the week and I picked it up yesterday.   Put 100 rounds through it today and hot damn that was fun.  Obviously very little recoil and it ran just fine.   I shot some Aguila 40 grain and Academy/Monarch 40 grain through it with no issues at all.   Defintely needs a buffer tube and a brace on it.

I ordered one of these last week when it was on sale for $264.99:

https://grabagun.com/kahr-arms-cm9-9mm-3-inch-matte-stainless-polymer-1-magazine.html

FedEx tracking emails said their driver has made two attempts to deliver the CM9 package order to the designated FFL store, but failed because it was closed.
The store doesn’t open until 11AM Tuesday- Saturday, and that is clearly posted in the window by the front door where the driver stuck the attempted delivery notice….at 10AM, both Thursday and Friday mornings.

The latest tracking notice says they will attempt to deliver it again on Monday….. never mind the store sign says it is closed on Mondays.
Geeze!!!

So…where would one find one of these .45 1911 bargains? Because that’s literally the final firearm on my “I’d like this but don’t have it” list.

Well, that depends on what level of quality & features are on your want list.
But nobody’s giving them away.

I’m a simple man, fan of the classics. I’ve shot a Colt and a Browning in the past (my uncle and godfather was an ATF agent, and a Browning 1911 was his regular carry). Prefer a darker finish, but otherwise, I’m just into a reliable, smooth action. What “features” am I looking at other than “goes bang reliably and puts rounds on target?”

I paid $559 + TTL for my last one in 2024…..this very basic lower end Springfield Armory Defender - it came with 3 magazines, a range bag, and a smaller bag.

A Garrison has a few upgrades:

IMG_5242.webpA Defender is really just a Milspec but with plainer grip panels and comes with only one magazine:

I have a friend that’s looking for .223 to stock up on. What’s the go to online vendor that I can recommend him?

If he's anywhere near an Academy, they have the Hornaday Frontier on sale right now for $9.99/20.

Hornady Frontier 5.56 NATO 55-Grain Centerfire Rifle Ammunition - 20 Rounds - view number 1

Hearing her two little dogs yapping up a storm late one night my MIL, who lived alone, brandished a tiny potmetal semiautomatic Titan .25acp to scare off an intruder who was attempting to to break in her kitchen door.
I was unaware she owned a firearm at the time, and was kind of bemused that she had bought it at her small Texas town hardware store without requesting any advice from me or other relatives.
Thank goodness though she probably saved herself from great harm or loss of property if she had been unarmed.

Anyway, I persuded her to allow me to buy her something more suitable & reliable than the Titan.
She was familiar with firearms from years before, being taught to shoot handguns & .22 rifles by her father.
So I bought this 1982 production Model 36 for her to keep in her nightstand.
She was well able to handle it after a shooting session at the local landfill.
That is all the “training” she wanted to do, as she really wasn’t a gun aficionado- but did recognize their utility for personal protection.

After she passed away at the age of 85 in 1995, my wife inherited it as a part of her estate. Later on we passed it on to our son who still owns it (along with the box & papers).
BTW - son owns also the little Titan .25, which out of the hundreds of firearms owned by my immediate and large extended family, is only the second gun that has actually been used in a self defense situation.
It has had less than 50 rounds fired through it in all those years.

(Pardon the dark background - I posted this on the S&W forum and don’t know how to switch it to normal)

Sgammo as mentioned above is good.

Outdoor limited has some good deals.

Anything less than $9 a box is great.

I like PMC xTAC stuff - all PMC ammo is pretty good. Their 9mm is the recommended round for 2011’s.

43 cents a round online with free shipping g is solid.
