I have been dreaming of going for over 30 years and I am about 95% sure this is the year I'm going to pull the trigger.

Now that I am on vacation from work, I'm going to spend some time trying to formulate plans.  So, for you veterans of trips to the CWS, any tips you can offer on tickets, where to stay, eat, park, etc. would be greatly appreciated.

Probably won't be there from the very beginning, but will plan to be there through the Championship series.

Fingers crossed Texas is there with me.

Stay at Harrah's Casino in Council Bluff, IA across the river.  Walk across the river bridge to downtown Omaha, the ballpark, and to other downtown food and drink.  Play golf at Dodge Park next to Harrah's.  Win big money at the Harrah's Casino.  What's not to like?

"on vacation from work". that's an awfully fancy way to say "furloughed".

best tip as a veteran of Omaha: find the LSU fans and party with them. seriously. they get buckwild. Omaha is Panama City Beach for people from Baton Rouge.

Yeah, it's a hard tradeoff.  I don't think I can manage a full 12-day trip. I will if I can, but given the limitation I will pick the Championship Series over the first few days.

There will likely be plenty of rooms available after a couple of eliminations.  Get up there when you can.  I've stayed in Lincoln and Council Bluffs on late reservations.  Really not a big deal.  It's Omaha, after all!

This.  The first two days are the best.

I went during a non texas year because fuck the police. I think it was 15 or 16ish on Father’s Day Sunday. Tech vs tcu. Flew up there in a Cessna 172 myself, watched the game and flew home that night.

Fun 1. Bitchaddness 0.

Harrah's is across the river from Omaha, but it's quite a ways from the ballpark. You can Uber to the park, but most people wouldn't want to walk it. I have stayed there quite a few times.

A lot of the area hotels have free shuttles to/from the park.  I don't know if Harrah's does.  Uber can be a real hassle around the park.

I've definitely walked that bridge before.  It's around 2 miles to the ballpark.  Maybe we grabbed drinks/food somewhere en route to make it seem shorter.

The most important thing is get up to Omaha!

Bro you can roll in there with your dick I in your hand. I flew half way to Canada in a shitty plane and maybe dropped 50 to get in. Hung out in left field for a bit, moved to right and then just past 1st base.

It was maybe 6 years ago but I am pretty sure 1st base side is the best. I think it was a southeast facing field.

Last year the all-virtual tickets deal removed or reduced a lot of the "locals selling to fans at face" dynamic but it's easy to post up in a bar, watch the resale market on the app, and then pull the trigger just before game time.

We hung out at Slowdown and bought 2 behind home for the first Texas v Ms State game for like $60 each. About 20 minutes before first pitch.

I never ever worry about tickets in Omaha.

This.  I bought 2 from a Horns fan at the bar for the first game for like $20 ea and a beer and then for the second game bought for like 15 ea on stubhub mobile delivery.  It's super easy.

The first two days are usually the busiest in the secondary market, but even then it's not difficult to get tickets.  Last year I went with my daughter and my mom so there were three of us.  The only difficulty we had was finding only 3 tickets so for most games I just ended up getting 4 on the secondary market.  It's really not a problem getting tickets.

The deadline for season ticket renewals was February 1st and the sign-up date for new season ticket holders hasn't been announced yet but will be mid to late March.  Single-game tickets won't be available until April 19th after they finish season ticket sales.  The outfield seats are going t be reserved seating again this year, so no more GA tickets.  I assume that GA seating is now gone forever, You can get information at https://cwsomaha.com/ncaa-mens-college-world-series-announces-game-times-and-ticketing-options/

Tickets are pretty much the easiest.  It's the hotels that you gotta preplan way in advance

I just got flights for the championship series.   I have not been since 2005.  Looking forward to seeing the stadium.   I was happy to see the championship series went back to Saturday, Sunday & Monday. Easier on the travel/work schedule.

Sounds like something to do in your early 20's.  I'm decades past that and it sounds miserable. 😂

He's an LSU fan. They can go weeks on minimal sleep subsisting on nothing but a crude mash of wild rice, bourbon and crawfish. I'm surprised they had a tent.

I don't. It's a survivalist trait envied by the rest of us.

Bumping.

Last night had a motherfucker cancel a 7 month old VRBO reservation for the first weekend.  I think it's bullshit that you can be past the "refund" date as the renter but the owner can just pull the rug out from under you on the busiest weekend of the year with no consequence.  Now paying 3x for a shittier place because there were no options.

Any food/bar recs are appreciated.  Staying near the Medical District but will obviously make way downtown / to ballpark so anywhere between works.

Omaha has plenty of good bars. Upstream is very popular, but they have lots of newer ones. Crescent Moon has a fantastic Rueben sandwich (created right across the street from CM at the Blackstone Hotel), and plenty of beers. I like The Drover for steaks or Cascio’s. There are lots of choices.

My absolute favorite place in Omaha is Mercury. Great drinks, playful menu that they change up. Amazing burger.

Also enjoyed
Plank Seafood
M's Pub
801 Chophouse.

Crecent Moon is pretty good, but I've had better Ruebans. Last year we lucked into a Polish fest next door that was a fucking blast. All locals. Made friends with several groups and hung out with them later in the week. Our Air BNB had someone else staying there so we walked towards the music. End up getting a nicer spot downtown after someone from the swimming nationals didn't qualify. Pure luck or we would have been staying at a shithole 20 miles away.

Bars:
Wicked Rabbit

Laka Lona Rum Bar is a great Tiki Bar

Don't be afraid to look at places outside Old Market. It will be more locals, less crowded and less SEC fans drooling on you. Tons of other great spots I'm forgetting.

Omaha is surprisingly small and easy to get around The city bikes are clutch; we uses them to get everywhere except the airport. Roll right up to the stadium and avoid the Uber cluster fuck. Just get the E bike assist ones. We found lots of cool spots.

The Zoo is okay.
Really enjoyed the art museum.

Wow, that is shitty.  I would be livid if that happened to me right now.

Had a room for 9000 hyatt points a night this morning but not a fucking thing under 400 now. The weather delays fucked us, but I guess I should have nutted up with a "cell phone flop".

My planning has paid off. 😁

Yes it has!  When I went Texas wasnt in it.  I just simply wanted to go take it all in.  You are going to have an absolute blast.  I was in left field, and our chant was "right field sucks"
