I read this morning that Biden is ready to lift sanctions so we can drill in Venezuela again. That seems cool and good.

They have to agree to run free and fair elections first.

That seems cool and good to you?

Fucking political jackassery.  I'm so sick of it.  @Porterhouse

Nobody wanted him to release SPR, ever. The sentiment has been consistent. Not sure what you’re talking about.

In exchange for the significant sanctions relief, the government of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro would resume long-suspended talks with the country’s opposition to discuss conditions needed to hold free and fair presidential elections in 2024, the people said. The U.S., Venezuela’s government and some Venezuelan opposition figures have also worked out a deal that would free up hundreds of millions of dollars in Venezuelan state funds frozen in American banks to pay for imports of food, medicine and equipment for the country’s battered electricity grid and municipal water systems.

lifting sanctions on venezuela would have the effect of decreasing migratory pressure at the border with mexico, so of course republicans don't want it.

That's complete bullshit.  I don't know YOUR angle on it, but I saw dozens of rage-ops as gas started climbing that Joe Biden needed to DO SOMETHING and release reserved oil.  If you didn't see it then you just don't pay attention to the word on the street, which makes your hot takes even more laughable.

The GOP has to politicize everything in their lives. It’s a big reason why I’ll probably never vote republican in an election. It still baffles me to this day just how they figured out to politicize something as mundane as kids going back to school during covid. Truly miserable and terrible people.

How is this going to impact my kid's haul of Halloween candy where everyone is reportedly going to give him marijuana gummies disguised as regular candy?

he's on a fucking roll these days. i'll be honest I think legalization has had its problems and the now widespread access isn't good for kids and developing brains (I also significantly disagree isn't nonaddictive) but I agree on a criminal level this move is LONG over due.

They're getting rainbow fentanyl, not weed gummies. Fox News told me so.

Biden isn’t just (edit: moving towards) decriminalizing all possession cases, it sounds like he’s pardoning anyone that was previously jailed for it. Obviously federal offenses. Great news for those that only had that on their record.

Valid concerns I suppose, but prohibition has been proven to be the wrong answer. History tells us that, as well as the number of people in jail, and the percentage who are black and brown. I'm also not super up on the science but I think it addictive in a way that people who like it really really like it, but nothing like the chemical dependency issues that can arise with alcohol. All I know is that I can take an edible and drink one beer on a weeknight without a hint of hangover. More than 2 drinks anymore and I'm risking a hangover.

Adults should be free to make their own decisions. Alcohol is way more harmful to your body and kills way more people despite its legal status.

Those morons are full of shit. If Trump did this, they would be celebrating. They’re just mad because a Republican didn’t think of it.

Finally, great move. I think marijuana should be decriminalized at the Federal level to allow states to implement it as they please. We are already at that point anyway, so why not just let it keep going? It's the most non-disruptive solution at the moment.

Just to be abundantly clear, this issue can’t hurt Biden. The polling is generally 80-90% of democrats approve of legalization, 60%-65% of independents, and 50% of republicans. Even in deep red states, marijuana wins. The formula is ballot initiatives to legalize marijuana win probably close to 90% of red state democrat votes, 60-70% of independent votes, and 45-50% Republican votes.

Marijuana is winning on ballots so much that it might just be getting tired of winning. It’s why I suspect Republican legislatures are taking steps to nerf or neuter the ballot initiative process in their states. You can generally ask yourself 2 questions “ is it fun?” and “do most Americans support this?” If the answer to either question is YES then you can count on the GOP to resoundingly vote NO.

I’d say it would cost them votes, but Texans proved in 2021 that they were willing to freeze to death to own the libs so…..

That's a great move re: MJ

And this part is best addressed by legalizing it at the federal level, imo.

I’d also like to note that as federal and state regulations change, we still need important limitations on trafficking, marketing, and underage sales of marijuana.

Yea, I was gonna say. It's already been done in Blue states, and Red states would cut off their own dicks before they'd give the Democrats a win.
