Yea, I was gonna say. It's already been done in Blue states, and Red states would cut off their own dicks before they'd give the Democrats a win.

There are many blue and purple states who haven’t done this yet. Hawaii, Delaware, Wisconsin,Ohio, Pennsylvania, Georgia, Minnesota, New Hampshire and Florida come to mind.

WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report)—President Biden announced that he was pardoning all people convicted under federal law of marijuana possession in order to make prison cells available for members of the Trump Administration.

Announcing the decision from the Oval Office, Biden said, “At present, thousands of Americans are in prison for the possession of marijuana. Those thousands of prison cells are badly needed to accommodate the influx of Trump aides, associates, and family members.”

That's complete bullshit.  I don't know YOUR angle on it, but I saw dozens of rage-ops as gas started climbing that Joe Biden needed to DO SOMETHING and release reserved oil.  If you didn't see it then you just don't pay attention to the word on the street, which makes your hot takes even more laughable.

Why would oil and gas guys want Biden to release crude 1) ever and 2) especially if oil were rising?  Such a move would have the impact of reducing price. Nobody has ever discussed this - at all. It wasn’t the word on any street that mattered.

I do recall being angry that Trump never followed through on his promise to fill the SPR in ‘20 at average prices of about $30/bbl. That was idiotic - moreso than what Biden has done.

Regardless, whatever fantasy you’ve concocted in your mind above was simply not a narrative. But you’re prone to making shit up so not surprising.

What the fuck are you smoking?  I didn't attribute it to "oil and gas guys".  I attributed it to Republicans/conservatives.

You are so damned intent on making me wrong that you can't keep your eye on the ball.  Be better.  (I know you can't.)

While you have me pegged as a GOP Biden hater, I’m not. If that was a thing, it wasn’t anything even discussed in circles I run in, and as you can imagine my circles are overwhelmingly GOP. It would have been mind numbingly stupid to release crude then. Never use the SPR as a market manipulation tool. If that was a Republican thing then it’s honestly the first I’ve heard of it, and my response is what a lot of you already know - there’s a lot of dumb Republicans out there.

Bolded part - you know you don’t have to be insulting to get a point across. I have been guilty of it too has you have flailed about, moving the goalposts in the Oil Barons thread. Or we could keep kicking each other in the nuts. You ridicule me for not catching one Tucker segment in 2021, or not knowing about some rando fringe MAGA group bitching about this, and I’m just fine without that knowledge.

The currency that matters is votes.  It was all the rage when Biden tapped the SPR.  I really don't give a flying fuck what the O&G gas guys thought about the move, yay or nay.  They're a tiny subset of Americans, and even if their perspective makes sense, it doesn't jibe with that of 40% of voters, because Biden bad.

Speaking of GOP.  Not one R would ever do what Biden just did today.   If only red state voters weren't for cutting their own throats so much.

that's because the GOP doesn't do anything for its voters, it does things to the opponents of its voters that its allies in the media have created for its voters.  the people for whom it does things, its constituents, are extraction industries and other exploitative industries such as casinos, payday lenders, and health insurance and drug companies.

It has never been all the rage. It is incredibly foolish. Short term political points, hurt our energy security, and he’ll be a political goat in ‘23 when we are at $150 because of this action.  But cool, he’s anti-pot criminalization, a much bigger deal.

I take issue with referring to Florida, with DeSantis as GOV, and Scott and Rubio as Senators, as "purple".   It's a conservative state, full stop.

"Urging all governors to do the same for state offenses".

Now Abbott and the carpetbagging lesbian will push to make marijuana possession in Texas punishable by death.

Abbott is going to take a page out of DeSantis' playbook.  Fly in some dope-smokers from out of the state, and put 'em on death row. Maybe try to pick up some of them as they leave federal prison.

does this make post offices, national parks or other federal buildings safe from local police interference? asking for a friend.

Valid concerns I suppose, but prohibition has been proven to be the wrong answer. History tells us that, as well as the number of people in jail, and the percentage who are black and brown. I'm also not super up on the science but I think it addictive in a way that people who like it really really like it, but nothing like the chemical dependency issues that can arise with alcohol. All I know is that I can take an edible and drink one beer on a weeknight without a hint of hangover. More than 2 drinks anymore and I'm risking a hangover.

I’m 100% for legalization. I’m saying it’s not harmless and anyone claiming it is dead ass wrong. Comparing it to alcohol is a straw man, most who abuse pot drink too.

Adults should be free to make their own decisions. Alcohol is way more harmful to your body and kills way more people despite its legal status.

I agree 100% and think it should be illegal and if used in moderation is less harmful than alcohol. But your point does not change the fact that weed is conducive to habit forming behavior and has seriously destructive impacts on teens. Legalizing it the right move and it creates a problem with access for teens.

bottom line - all three are true - adults should be allowed to do as they please here and it should be legal, alcohol is more destructive to the body, and pot is extremely destructive to a child’s brain if used habitually.

How does legalizing weed cause any more issues for teens? If any teen wants to smoke weed right now I'm pretty damn sure they know where to find it

The easier it is for adults to get the easier it is for 11-18 year olds.  If you have teens you’d be able to see how much of a problem access has become. You don’t need a dealer you just raid mom and dad’s stash like you did their beer fridge back in the day.

This motherfucker. Been holding onto this for almost two years. Didn't break it out when his approval was in the 30's. Didn't break it out when inflation was peaking. Didn't break it out when gas was $6. Nah, let's wait 'til midterms to blow some minds. Cold as ice.

I guess I just don't see the big deal considering what is already in mommy's medicine cabinet and daddy's liquor cabinet. Way worse stuff already within reach and weed isn't nearly as harmful as that stuff.

It's another one of those things that could actually get some single-issue voters out to vote (against Greg), because he will absolutely try and outdo DeSantis and remind everybody of how shitty and unoriginal he is.

The other significant thing Biden did today was in Poughkeepsie, NY. He was onstage with IBM's CEO as a $20B investment in semiconductor, microchip, and quantum computing manufacturing was announced.

Talked about how the GOP was lobbied hard by the ChiComs to prevent the passage of the CHIPS and Science act.

Granted, I'm an IBMer so I was just as jacked up with pride as I was seeing Hamilton on stage for the first time. But getting Micron, Intel, IBM, and others the incentive to provide national economic and military security via microchips seems cool. Must be my big blue tinted glasses.

You clearly haven’t seen how bad weed is for kids who end up being habitual users. Depression and anxiety worsens, motivation and drive disappears and remains a problem for a long, long time. Suicide risk, risk of dropping out of school and more. I think pot should be legal but it will fuck up a kid’s life faster than anything I’ve seen. Yes alcohol is long term much more harmful to other organs and it’s level of impairment poses even bigger risks with fatalities getting behind the wheel. But make no mistake weed is extremely dangerous for kids and is more prevalent, easier to get and more potent than anything we were able to get our hands on.

Alcohol is far worse in terms of its psychological and physical health impacts.  And it's not really close.

Not a great argument for saying give the kids weed. I’m not advocating alcohol use for kids and frankly I don’t think it’s that great for anyone. But The fact remains pot is a terrible thing for kids, completely fucking terrible. Believe me, I’ve got a fucking front row seat to it.

And I’ll tell you, kids start using pot because they hear it isn’t as bad, then whoopsies they are habitual, flunked out of school and don’t give a shit with suicide risks and mental health problems because of the specific impact of weed on a teen brain. So congratulate yourselves on the stupidity of your argument. Bad is bad. Weed just like booze is no fucking good for teens. And in the crusade for legalization we need to up our prevention game with kids that’s all I’m saying. Thankfully Biden agrees and said as much today.

If mom and dad don't secure their dope the way they secure their guns, then they are simply unfit for parenthood.   Assuming they lock up their guns, of course.

I was simply pointing out its not all roses and giggles on the path to legalization, teen use has exploded it’s extremely detrimental. It’s an important issue a national one at that.  So let’s be happy but it’s not a binary issue. Legalization has presented new challenges.

I've gotta disagree pretty hard with you on this man. No doubt that like anything else used to excess, weed can be destructive. But I've seen more kids lose their future to WoW, or to getting hooked on benzos, than I have to weed.

Make no mistake, kids shouldn't be getting stoned or getting drunk. Their brains are still developing, and it's a risky game to put chemicals into your body that change how your mind works as your brain is learning how it works.

And you'll notice like some other posters have said, nobody is saying we need to be getting kids stoned lol. That's a ridiculous straw man to attack

Add it to the list of 1000 other things legal and extremely detrimental already available. Weed isn't the issue here if parents aren't keeping shit away from their kids
