I didn't say it didn't work, I said it was a scam. It's about tax payer dollars. Another thing, you think strip mining is environmentally friendly because it isn't. We can't run this country on wind/solar and batteries. Believe it or not you can generate clean power with natural gas, it's just frowned upon because of a stigma of it being a fossil fuel.

you're a walking collection of logical fallacies.

People seem to forget this aspect.  Assholes who drive big ass cars and trucks to their corporate O&G job in Houston and bitch about high gas and diesel prices are the icing on the fucking cake.

I paid $100.57 to fill up my Tahoe this afternoon in East Dallas. This is the first time I've ever surpassed $100 on a single tank of gas for this car. And it was worth every fucking penny. Put one of these stickers on the pump when I finished. Worth. Every. Last. Penny.

Same w/ my Silverado.  And I've got zero problem w/ it and will give dotard a big "fuck you, you miserable orange cunt", if he tries to run again.

I'm talking about a net petroleum exporter.

Imagine petroleum (including crude oil) imports plus exports is 100 "units".  Why is it important from a national security perspective for us to be 51 export + 49 import, as opposed to 49/51?

Maybe so we don't have to beg Iran, Venezuela, and Saudi Arabia to help us keep inflation from spiking and fucking our economy up. When chaos happens for whatever reason, it's best to not be dependent on other countries, even if it's +/-1%.

We only got 3% from Russia and somehow that's spiked gas prices here like 50%

Ah yes, that super clean, non-greenhouse gas known as [checks notes] methane. Yup, no problems at all associated with burning shitloads of good ol methane. Except that for the first two decades after its release, it’s 80 times more potent at warming than co2. But that’s not a big deal. In fact, we’ve always wanted to flood our coastal cities even faster.

It isn't important.  These folks are arguing around themselves.  Long and short, it is a GLOBAL CRUDE MARKET, so even if we produced all our own crude, that crude would still be subject to the global market, and a producer isn't going to sell it to a refiner for less than what it is worth.  And further, if that crude is cheaper to that refiner and they can fun it, but refined products prices are higher in Europe or Asia, if the price of transport gets them a greater margin by exporting those bbls, they will do exactly that until the arb closes.

These folks arguing for dumbass solutions are completely ignorant to how this all works.  Then again, they are blaming Biden and he has little to no impact on these prices.

I find it very amusing that @Zeus is in here showing his ass at every turn, showing his complete ignorance of Oil and Gas and how Global Markets function, because he is an idiotic troll.  However, every post of his is pos repped by @Bravo, another moronic troll.  It is astounding how idiotic people are when it comes to basic concepts like supply and demand and how that impacts prices.  What fucking idiots.

Also, another factor a lot in here seem to forget.  US Oil and Gas Companies are private companies, and as a result, they are not compelled to sell products in the US if the margins are better if they export.  Our friends on the right bleat about socialism constantly without actually understanding what that word means.  But holy shit, they have to pay higher prices for gasoline for their giant gas guzzler that they bought because they are compensating for a small penis....that they only use to commute from Kingwood or Fulshear to downtown Houston, and watch out.  Suddenly the federal government needs to step in and DO SOMETHING and oil companies need to stop charging market prices.

Fuck these folks.

Just to put some color on the spike in oil prices, AAA says Brent is up 27% over the last 12 days, and WTI is up 30% over that same time period.

In other news, the fact that Russian product only represents 3% of our imports doesn't mean the global sanctions against Russian oil haven't had a massive effect on prices.  The United States doesn't get to define prices independent of the rest of the world's consumer nations.

As a guy who owns a gas guzzler that I willingly paid for, I priced out the difference between the cost of this family car and a more expensive uglier family car (better mileage) and I assumed $5/gallon gas, I worked out the difference in years between the price given the mileage and it would have taken something like 8 years to break even given the price differential to have the ugly hybrid given the mileage that I put on a vehicle right now.  (I have <6000 miles on the vehicle after a year which is about 1/2 of my typical mileage.

And please leave my penis out of this.   It is the reason I have the family car in the first place.  That dickhead has broke me.

It is always funny how quickly the right wants to embrace fascism when it comes to oil, but they are always out of ideas when it comes to rising health care which continues to outpace inflation, COL, and never seems to have a bust cycle.

Anyway, getting back to Biden and the free world. Russia produces 10.5m bpd, they consume about 3.5m bpd. At the very least, we need to find a net new ~7m bpd to bring to market to keep prices relatively stable if we want to push them out of the world market.  Where will that come from? How will that energy be displaced? What happens to the EU if Russia stops sending O&G to them, since they are more dependent on their supply. I don't know, but I also don't see any obvious answers out there. Asking OPEC and Venezuela to produce more won't happen, unless the US and EU are willing to offer other concessions. And that's not even considering natural gas supply.

Just for the heck of it, I looked up oil reserves by country, and I didn't realize that Venezuela was right up there with Saudi. https://www.worldometers.info/oil/#oil-reserves

Those numbers are from 2016, but I doubt it changed considerably since then. Venezuela is a rough place to develop though. There's a good reason we don't work with them. I know a lot of big oil companies had their assets nationalized (seized) several years ago, and none of them have gone back. Normalizing relations and trade with them would not be easy, or even safe to do, but if cancelling Russia is more important, maybe we can make it work.

There are still a lot of unanswered questions about where the oil market is headed. Hoping for Putin to be assassinated and a new Russian president installed to stop the war is not a solution. That's a moonshot at this point, and unlikely to happen. We need to be crafting a global energy policy and plan with Russian oil out of the mix. We need to increase production across the board, stateside, in the EU and anywhere in the middle east that is friendly. That's a tough sell to countries that are seeing 3x revenue from what they were getting during the pandemic.

Oh, I want the prices to go higher.   The only way green energy gets pushed more is if the cheap alternatives become more expensive.

I'll have to invest in a saw, and ax before energy gets too expensive. I'll start cutting and chopping wood to sale to keep homes heated for cheaper.

How big is the market for off grid technology in your neck of the woods? It doesn't seem to be big here but I was wondering about the granola NW.

Oh, I agree, but it isn’t like that is some gotcha moment.  Part of the reason for doing that was to do serious harm to US producers.  But again,  not something Joe Biden has any sort of control over.

You realize it takes energy energy to make the photo cells and wind turbines right?

OK maybe you don't know who my background but let's just say I have a natural science understanding.  So when someone talks about quartz sources for materials, this is like me running up to you to tell you that I just figured out that bacon makes sandwiches better.  It most certainly is true, but it is not some new discovery.

Oil and coal require energy to produce.   From the power that supplied the drills to the equipment necessary to extract it, to te coffee and cold pizza the geologist drank.

As an FYI, and sorry if it was posted already, I did a rudimentary search for a topic but ended up here. The ODNI Annual Threat Assessment is out and the link is here:

https://www.dni.gov/files/ODNI/documents/assessments/ATA-2022-Unclassified-Report.pdf

It is only 31 pages, and is pretty basic, giving a global overview. The date is February 7, using information as of January 21.

Note: no mention of Hunter Biden's laptop.
