Brisket referred to 30 years, you fucking stooge.  Just stop pointing the finger at one side when BOTH sides (legit #bothsides) have failed in this regard.

Were you dropped on your head as a child?

Actually, a GOP POTUS had the best immigration reform plan of my lifetime: GWB. The GOP made sure it died before it ever got off the ground. That’s when I fully realized that immigration is 1000X more important to the GOP as a topic for demagoguery, vs an issue to actually try to solve. They haven’t sone anything to change that in 20+ years.

Yeah unfortunately many conservatives are increasingly subscribing to Great Replacement Theory-type ideas. David Shor, head of data science at Blue Rose Research, is pretty good at analyzing and explaining electoral trends. His current data suggests DeSantis (assuming Trump is neutered) will win in ‘24 with a filibuster proof majority in the Senate. There’s a very real chance that a jackass like Chris Rufo will be part of the DeSantis/Reynolds administration. We’re fucked because that jackass loves legislation that “preserves family values” (any intelligent person knows what that means). I’ve lurked on this board for a while and used to think you were too dramatic, but you’re spot on about what the GOP really wants America to look like.

As a middle aged white dude, I’m still trying to figure out what it is about immigration I’m supposed to be so pissed off about.  Of course human trafficking is shit, but last I checked that’s not exactly immigration.

And if we really wanted to get serious about stopping it, maybe we should lock up those that are causing the demand.  But the pedophile GQP probably does want to go there.

Or even unreasonable immigration reform

they want to run on an opposition platform even when they are in control

Ding ding ding.

If we came up with a reasonable policy that allowed for fair entry (and exit) re work permits and asylum, enforcement focused on both the border AND employers of undocumented labor….that would remove one of the most central GOP campaign issues of the last quarter century. If they can’t create a huge list of woes and tie all of them back to dirty brown people who want to replace, you know, REAL Americans (and yes, the GOP has literally said that quiet part out loud), then they lose a pillar of their political strategy. Solving the immigration issue might be the worst thing to ever happen to the GOP, so they are never, ever going to let it happen.

Did you read my post?  Title 42 is "immigration law" only in the context of protecting the States from disease.  It is not intended to address general immigration issues.  Using it in that manner is wrong.

I read it, your issue seems to be on the spirit of the law. I’m just more focused on the end result, which has been surprisingly effective. Biden seems intent on making a bad situation worse, it’s very bizarre.

@Poe It Up, it seems like you're really interested in continuing to enforce this particular Covid restriction. What other Covid restrictions would you like to see continued? I mean, certainly, this wouldn't be the only Covid restriction you would keep in place, right?

I’m not sure that it’s a restriction, but I’ve noticed people are slowly starting to get comfortable and encroach on my personal space again. That six foot rule was the shit and I want it back.

It was, if I remember correctly, actually well received by moderate Democrats and Republicans alike.  However, you had the extremes on both sides, and the far right and the far left had enough to effectively gut and kill the legislation.  It was actually really impressive as originally drawn out.  It would not have erased the blunder of the Iraqi War, but it would have given GWB a decent domestic legacy.  It really is a fucking shame as it made too much sense.

The key parts of it for me was a massive Guest Worker Program for unskilled labor (think seasonal farming), check the box immigration for skilled labor (similar to what a lot of Western Europe already has in place), plus some reform to the current lottery system, though keeping it in place.  It should have satisfied a lot of folks, but yeah, the Religious Right arm of the GOP (which was overtaking the moderate arm at this time) is more interested in using immigration as fear porn rather than actually doing something about it.

And Americans in the rust belt believe that illegal immigrants from the Southern Border are taking their factory jobs that left for fucking China years ago.  In other words, they are stupid.

You left out all the illegal immigrants from our southern border raping and killing US citizens.  I for one am tired of being raped and murdered by them here in Dallas on what seems like a weekly basis.

I was told my nice, cushy suburb would be burned to the ground immediately after Biden took over.  It's looking like that extra fire insurance is going to waste.

Republicans have recharacterized illegal immigration as trafficking and are working on recharacterizing all non-conservatives of being pedophile groomers.

Nope, surely nothing to be worried about at all with any of that.

If you were wondering why Trump did not do a fucking thing when the Saudi's and Putin drove down oil to destroy the US fracking industry.  Putin has Trump in his pocket.  But Trump and Co. CHOSE to support a murdering Prince despite the clear evidence.  Fuck the American people, and the US oil industry because... Saudis give Jared Kushner $2,000,000,000

Trump gloated about the low price of oil, never once acknowledging the way it was hammering red states like Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, etc.  Didn't faze his voters one bit.  It's the damndest thing.

This mirrors an argument I had with my dad.  He actually had the gall to tell me that Oil Companies were better under Trump than under Obama.  He then proceeded to tell me I didn't know what I was talking about when I refuted that.  Mind fucking blowing.  I stopped talking politics with him after that.

Let me correct my statement.  These folks used the Obama presidency to push lies, which I think a lot of people were willing to believe because....honestly, latent racism.  I hate to say that about members of my family, but yeah.  This shit has continued to this day (see the whole Jan 6 was Antifa and all the Big Steal bullshit stuff).  It is disgusting.

I’ll never understand how people ascribe so much power to a single person…especially leading a ship as large as our government.  It really comes across as misplaced anger on an easy scapegoat constantly in the public eye.

I don’t blame my CEO for high prices in the cafeteria, or an individual crappy product, or when my outside spend budget is reduced.  Macroeconomic trends that influence those individual gripes are outside the control of any one company or person.  People who do so come across as bitter snd short sighted.

I’ll blame my CEO for a poorly thought-out acquisition strategy, or hiring a proven hatchet man as CFO, or making ill-considered public statements that damages the companies image on the market.  Have a good and approachable personality, surround yourself with and LISTEN to carefully-selected key advisers, adhere to the vision of the company…and I’m generally onboard with the decisions.

Thus it’s regarded to blame the president on gas price fluctuations, QoQ numbers on inflation/immigration/job growth, or housing prices…I never hated on Trump for those things as one man doesn’t hold the keys to world economic trends.  Not like he worked anyways.

I hated on Trump for making us a fool on the world stage (proven via multiple surveys), appointing terrible self-enriching fraudsters to key positions in government, clearly encouraging Jan 6, making fun of disabled reporters, and just generally being a narcissist asshole.  Viewing all his decisions through that lens feels appropriate given the rest of my post.
