2022 Poker: Ship it!

Looks like they lost the first hour of Thursday night’s $2/5 w$25 BB Ante game. Sucks, because I played several nice hands to run my starting stack up from $2k to 3k in just that first hour.

Nonetheless, there are a few massive pots (wins and losses) in the rest of this stream I’ll link to later for discussion.

Ended up +$2700 on this table, as well as +$1000 from the standard $2/5 game I was playing before this game fired up.

There was an old dude regular at Winstar named Kenny who constantly did this. Seemed pretty comical to me.

I smile every time a newbie does it as it saves me time trying to determine if he understands odds.

Saw an older guy go off on a dude that did it a few months ago. Told the guy to at least tip the dealer for wasting his time! The rest of us acted like the wash was reasonable so as not to scare off the fish. It was quite uncomfortable for a few minutes…

I’ve really upped my game on table selection and, particularly, seat selection these last few months. I will immediately look for opportunities to get to the offenders left. If anyone says anything (we have a few assholes that will comment), I’ll hide my intentions by saying that old seat was card dead… and the regs all smirk.

I totally get that hes outting himself as a newbie, but in the case of the new standards of live poker where casinos are now charging by the half hour, washing the deck is now no longer just a wasted bit of time, its now a wasted bit of PAID FOR time that the rest of the table has to endure.

If I am on a standard rake table without a chair rental fee, fine, go for it....   I wont say shit.

but If I am paying by the half hour, I wont say anythign the first time. But you can be damn sure Im gonna go off on the kid/geezer/moron who keeps fucking asking to wash the deck and waste a minute of paid time while the deck gets reshuffled by the dealer and the shuffle machine.

Finally a bit more settled down after the move, so hopefully will be getting back to cards at some point soon. New place is really close to The Palms, but they’re closed for now after an ownership change, not sure when they’re opening back up.

Looks like The Lodge will be my go to now.

Palms was bought by a guy who ran an underground game for years that goes by Big E. He’s a cool dude.

Got this text from him a few weeks ago:

Big E wishing you a Merry Christmas 🎁.
If you haven’t heard I bought the Palms Social. Taking over on January 1st . The new name will be Red Star. Hope I will see you their sometime.

Are there really 60 poker rooms in Texas now? I think that's what Brad/Doug said.

There might be. Poker Atlas has 18 Houston area clubs listed. However, only a few of those 18 have any real traffic. Most are lucky to have more than a couple of tables going.

Amg, I’m a fucking donkey.

Played at a home game Tuesday, good action, bad players, so good game. Was up a little over $1,500. We have 7-2 on, but for only 5 god damn dollars, and was a little buzzed… so bluff off over 5 hundo with 7-2 off…. Very next hand I donk off 1g with Q-10 suited on a paired Q, J, 2, J board, don’t even remember river but of course villain had some J-5 suited sorta bullshit.

Still knocking the rust off fo sure.

So I think we might finally have the answer to Rampage Poker's crazy style.

He just shared his youtube earnings

Youtube only, no sponsorships, merch/ads/promos, etc, he kept the rest of that private.    .... and with just youtube, its stunning.   hes only got 125K official subscribers, but hes clearly got a lot of folks who have been watching his vids without a sub.

anyway, he made his channel in early Jan 2018.  I probably got recommended to see him around Aug/Sept of that year. (he was playing 1/3 NL low stakes) which is what I was, and sort of still are, playing.

from 2018 to all of 2019, the channel made around $10k total.  He had a decent daily amount upticking to April of 2020, then he ran out of live poker vids like everyone else. and for 2 months, basically nothing.  he did some online stuff for a bit... until he binked that WSOP bracelet in the mid-summer of 2020  and the channel started to grow a lot, which obviously comes from a live win that he was able to stream.   But it also allowed him to start travelling and doing sponsor visits, etc...  so at the end of 2020, that channel made around 49-50k

Then 2021, which included the $17k punt in Texas,  another $10k punt somewhere else....  but also a $230k bink at the Venetian.  and in 2021, his youtube only earnings were just shy of $184,000   with only 125k  subscribers.....  he did hire a youtube editor, so maybe $50k of that is covered.  but still.... that kind of explains the crazy amounts of money he bets with because hes got a  hefty amount coming back to him from the vid money alone.

It also kind of shows that youtube  really is an exponential money source, every 20k in additional subscriptions over 100k nets you a larger increase, maybe 20% more income.

extrapolating that number a bit re:  Andrew (175k subs) & Brad (550k subs),

and you have Andrew making somewhere around  $275k just from youtube... and i cant even accurately try to guess Brad's income... if we assume the same trajectory... he literally could be making $5M a year.   but I think the exponential number tails off considerably after hitting the 250k subscriber level....   so even a flat trajectory has Brad making upwards of $1M a year just from youtube..... no wonder he could buy a poker room.

Heads-up in a short NLH sit and go. You have about 12 BB and your opponent has about 10. Opponent is kind of bad but let's assume no reads.

Check to you in the Big Blind with 9-8 off. I check.

Checks through to the river, and the board is J-5-T-A-7 rainbow, with the J and A of hearts.

On the river, first to act I bet 1/2 pot and got min-raised. What do you do?

Well you are mentioning the J and A were hearts for a reason. He shows up with the KQ hearts and checks his straight on the turn with the royal draw.

Yeah KQ of hearts was the only thing I could think of that he'd slow play on the turn. I shipped it and he called with two pair.

Great clips, thanks for sharing. I'm sure history/reads/game dynamics had a big role, but I'm curious how often you are leading in those two spots, JTo in the 3! pot and the J9s trips board. I really like both given stack depth and what I assume is a big mark in the 1 seat.

On the A4s hand, that seems like burning money unless you have some super duper read on villain and he puts it in there with a huge range.  You just aren't getting the odds to call.

JTo, I’m opening preflop because of Leo in seat 1. All of the regs are targeting him. When the BTN (an unknown player) 3bets, I assume he has a strong hand and would have folded had action folded back to me. However, when Leo calls, I have to come along.

That flop should not have hit BTN. I saw an opportunity to claim it and gauge BTNs reaction. When he just called, it pretty much narrowed him to over cards. I was worried more about Leo, because that’s definitely his type of flop. When he bailed, I felt pretty good about taking this one down.

The turn was ideal. I thought it would check through, in which case I’d get to see if my gutter hit, and really bomb just about any river card but Ace. I did not expect him to bet the turn, so it took me a minute to process. Fortunately, I played the turn exactly how I would have played a turned boat as well, so I felt pretty confident I could get him to fold a jam right there.

J9s hand was just incredibly odd. I thought it would look like I had paired the 5 and they’d come along with higher pairs and over cards. I was planning to just check the turn let someone hang themselves. But then a 5 comes on the turn and I didn’t know what the fuck to do since it looked like I just boated up. I felt like I had no choice but to check, and fortunately Patrick bet.

The announcers hated my check raise, but I knew the river would go check-check regardless of what came. I figured if there was ANY chance of getting one more dollar in the pot from an overpair, it would have to be there on the turn.

River filled the flush draw. I think I was jamming regardless, but it made Patrick think that’s what I hit. I never thought he had a 5, honestly. Figured we may be chopping.

A4s call was all about Don. I have a lot of experience with him. He’s a great player and bluffs a ton, profitably.

In my head, I’m thinking the ONLY 5 he ever has here is A5s, and I block it with an Ace of my own.

However, he has a ton of combo draws in his range, many without even a pair. His 3x pot jam looked exactly like that. Totally polar, with far more draws than 5s. Credit to him for even considering this play.

It’s also fair to say I only bit because of the huge stack I had built up. It had afforded me the opportunity to bluff catch.

This would be an interesting hand analysis in one of the poker apps, if anyone has one. I’d guess I have near 50% vs his range and I needed maybe 40% for it to be +ev

genuinely curious what your "thats too much" point is in that sitation.

with the exception of him making it a ridic size that screams AA- KK ,what raise size could he have possibly made it that you would have actually folded pre?

If you are calling $60 more there, you are calling $80. You had position, so whats the give up level? $105, $110?
