100%. They got cute at the end. And Gregory got tired of dealing with the hillbilly circus and he told them to fuck off. Good for him. Get out of that toxic environment Jerry and now Stephen have created.

Fuck that, a lot can be said about the cowboys front office, but they have been loyal to a fault with Gregory. If he has a problem with the language when he’s been suspended more than he’s played then so be it. Let him walk and find someone else that rather than keep on doing what we’re all critical of them for. Plus, haven’t you been critical of Gregory from day one?

FUCK Randy Gregory.

There is no loyalty in the NFL but c'mon, the Cowboys could have cut him a dozen times over.

He got way more loyalty from Jerry than any other team would have given him.

And I use the term "loyalty" loosely.

I tend to look at it as, maybe Randy saved the Cowboys from their own stupidity. Of course, they'll just take that stupidity and apply it elsewhere.

Von was hinting at wanting to return to Denver before they signed Gregory, even with the Superbowl champ Rams still in play. He's now hinting about interest in the Cowboys and returning to Texas. He either is trying to create some buzz to heat up the bidding war among a few teams, or he's sincere about wanting to play the rest of his career someplace he can call home. He's probably going to the highest bidder, which likely wouldn't be Dallas, but maybe it's not ALL about money, which it probably is.

I think he definitely wanted to come back to Denver, just not sure the Broncos could have afforded him.  Gregory's deal is effectively 2 years and $28 million, so if he's a bust it's not a long term deal.  Von might get $20 million per.

He's about to turn 33. Maybe with some more PEDs, but $20 mil would be a tall order.

I don't really listen to The Fan but my brother who does said Bobby Belt was on 105.3 today breaking down how  the Cowboys negotiations with Gregory went.

To recap:

- Cowboys told Randy he was the free agent priority multiple times
- Dragged their feet when Tank wouldn’t take a pay cut and tried to chip away at his value by bringing up his past and saying other teams wouldn’t be able to give him a support system like we can
- Told Randy to field offers from elsewhere and come back
- Offers didn’t have the same suspension offset language and it sounds like his agent hasn’t ever negotiated a Cowboys contract, so the agent thought it was out of line for them to include the language.
- Agent wanted Randy to go to Denver anyways, so this is where I think he took advantage of the “unusual” terms even though they’re pretty standard in Cowboys contracts and encouraged Randy to pivot out of Dallas

It's ok to listen to the fan. They've upped their game a ton since the Richie Whitt days and they have better Cowboys coverage than the ticket these days.

I don't get the consternation. Gregory flashes greatness but is inconsistent, below average against the run, and has penalty and availability issues. 4 for 70 28 guaranteed is too high for what he's brought. That's more than the Packers were paying Za'darius Smith and he way out performed Gregory the last 2 years.

lol.  Von's not getting 20m AAV.  Probably closer to 20m for 2 years.

So you're saying a Top 10 league pressure rate can't get a guy $28M over 2 years? I'd gather most GMs would differ.

He’s utterly worthless against the run. Beyond abysmal. And he will get you a penalty on any given play.

oh, and he’s due for a relapse and long term suspension.

I'm not so sure..... 4 TFL's, 19 total tackles.  He's a one trick pony who's never had more than 6 sacks.  Don't get me wrong the 12 hurries and 11 QB knockdowns are valuable, but his evaluation was more about sunk cost IMO.  The fact that we botched the execution of a foundational bias assessment is simply hilarious ineptitude.  He can definitely play but he's more of an extreme specialist.

At the million bucks we were paying him he was a justifiable bargain. At $28m 2 years for a 30 year old numbskull who has never played a complete season, is horrible at run defense, who is good for a bad penalty or two each game, I am estatic maybe the last of Jerry’s restoration projects is finally off the fucking team. I don’t see a Rico Gathers or another Gregory on the roster although you never know; Jerry still believes in Johnny Football.

Good luck Denver. I hope Jerry goes hard on Von Miller and brings him home.

Hasn't Jerry over valuing our own players been a problem forever now? We always seem to pay guys like Dez and Zeke for past production rather than being logical and cold hearted about their future. Jerry's soft spot for certain guys has always played apart in contracts.

Think emotion played a big part in the Jaylon Smith contract as well. It was a heart warming story and the entire Jaylon Smith contract announcement press conference Jerry was taking pot shots at Zeke because he was playing hard ball. Kept going on about loyalty and things that really don't play a big part in a Super Bowl.

Jaylon Smith attained the position as my all time most unfavorite Cowboy, usurping Bobby Carpenter. His inability to stick with another team proved he was another terrible Jerry Jones project that he thought would be a bigtime Hollywood story. With Gregory gone maybe we are done with these fucking projects.

The issue seems to be the contract language regarding forfeiture for fines vs forfeiture for suspensions. The latter is common place throughout the league, but the former is only used by the Cowboys. However they claim they've never actually invoked it for a contract. As for people being suspicious of Schaefer's claim that he's never seen this specific language allowing the forfeiture of guaranteed money for fines given that he's also La'el Colllins agent we should remember that Schaefer isn't Collins' original agent. I'm not sure when he changed but Collins used to have a different guy so he may not have negotiated a deal with Cowboys for him yet.

The NFL announced the compensatory picks for the 2022 draft. The Dallas Cowboys picked up two fifth-round picks in the process. Dallas got the 176th and 178th overall picks in the draft. That is pick #33 and #35 in the fifth round of the April draft. They are sandwiched around pick 177 owned by the Detroit Lions.

It seems more like Gregory's representation choices are similar to many of his other life choices. Now he's afraid he can't get through a preseason without getting caught violating a league rule, so he went to weed heaven where there would be zero temptation whatsoever.

Nor should they (for weed), but he’s already deeeeeeeeep into the program. I am guessing that if he pops for anything, he’s done for a long time.

Given how they haven't won a damn thing with these players I wouldn't have been opposed to letting guys like Lawrence and Gregory go and signing other veteran free agents to replace them.

His attitude is shit. What has he done for the team? He was a part of the worst defenses in team history and last year when the defense improved he missed almost the entire season. He's now injury prone and I think Stephen's offer was a low ball but maybe it's time to start playing hard ball and not coddling Jerry style.

Agreed. This front office is way too loyal to their own to a fault.

Give me Cooper staying put than DLaw but we could have easily kept them both if we wanted.

I really want to see news today about Dorance Armstrong getting re-signed to me a bit less nervous about the DE situation. I think he still has upside and is a good rotational piece that needs more PT.

I’d love to see Dorrance back as a reliable third guy to spell Tank and Von. To go with Parsons and Bobby Wagner behind them.

Rams really want the Cowboys to overpay for Von Miller so their locker room won't be upset when he's gone.

Just because Randy Gregory left doesn't mean the Cowboys should rush to sign a part-time player like Von Miller.

But alas, Jerrah and Stephen are being laughed at so of course they'll probably overeact and make another terrible personnel decision... 😂😂😂

We go from one legendary franchise to another. The Cowboys were probably hoping to create cap space by trading away players from their core for meaningful picks, but that hasn't really worked out. Cooper was dealt for a fifth-round pick. Nobody has bit on right tackle La'el Collins, who might be cut before the new league year begins. There also wasn't a market for DeMarcus Lawrence, who ended up restructuring into a three-year, $30 million deal.

Dallas also seemingly bungled its most notable free-agent transaction. Shortly after announcing that they were going to re-sign edge rusher Randy Gregory, the Cowboys apparently lost Gregory to the Broncos, who inked the oft-suspended veteran to a five-year, $70 million pact. Suggestions swirling after the fiasco suggested that the Cowboys might have attempted to insert some salary-forfeiture language into Gregory's contract at the last possible moment, which gave the Broncos an opportunity to swoop in and nab the 29-year-old.

With the Broncos seemingly closing off their path to re-signing Von Miller, the Cowboys now find themselves desperately needing to add someone like Miller to their roster. Dallas also needs to address linebacker and safety in the days to come.

Are you kidding me? He's the only thing who's consistently been worth a damn on the defense over the last 5 years. He had over 30 million left on his contract and just watched a teammate who he's leaps and bounds better than get 70+ million on the open market yet still wanted to stay to work things out with the Cowboys only for Cap boy to sit back and offer him Dalton Schultz money.  Get all the way the fuck out of here with his attitude is shit nonsense. You guys with your default hate and envy for every professional athlete you come across is weird to me.

I'm starting to think the Cowboys should reverse course on Collins and just keep him, pay the salary. The OL free agent market dried up in a hurry. They're going to need a swing tackle, and already need an edge probably with their top pick, plus they need a couple of interior OL, LB, safety, probably another TE and more depth. They are going to have a hard time filling those needs for whatever they save from post-June cut of La'el. With the way the salaries are headed they could still probably traded Collins later when a team has an emergency need, or he proves he's worth it. The odds of Tyron staying healthy for 17 games gets slimmer every year.
