Dallas Cowboys 2022 Offseason Thread -- Every Time Jerrah Talks, an Angel Sheds Their Wings

The problem with the Cowboys isn't necessarily that they are poorly run. In fact, they've been fairly successful during the REGULAR SEASON over the last 20 years. I believe the stat is that they are the 8th winningest franchise during the regular season since Parcels took over for Campo (of course they're the only team within the top 10 over that span of time to not make a Super Bowl, much less a conference championship).

No, what's wrong with the Cowboys has more to do with how Jerry's influence changes how head coaches deal with the team personnel. Be it certain players getting playing time over others due to being more marketable (ie Zeke, Jaylon Smith, and maybe even Witten at the end of his career), or the way Jerry's presence and relationship with the players limits a coach's ability to instill discipline or to be the final word of authority over the team. Even the way being a member of this team impacts the manner in which a player sees himself (ie Ceedee Lamb behaving as a star the moment he put on the uniform).

There was a recent podcast interview I saw with Michael Irvin and the guy on the podcast asked Irvin what it was like for him when he arrived in Dallas. The interviewer had just asked the same question of Micah Parson and was clearly asking from the standpoint that Dallas Cowboys were always perceived as stars from the moment they arrived in Dallas. Michael shocked him with his answer when he reminded him that they Dallas Cowboys weren't treated in that manner in 1988 and none of the benefits now attributed to just being a Dallas Cowboy arrived until AFTER they won a Super Bowl. It's difficult to put a finger exactly on the specific way that Jerry's management style does to limit the team's performance, but it's clear that it does.

It was both Vic and to a lesser extent drew, but it was always one of the dumbest takes either one of them ever vocalized. Anyone with a brain knew that the lions were to blame, and not Stafford. So it’s fitting that in literally the first year he’s not with that franchise, he’s in the Super Bowl. He’s dipped at times this year, but when healthy the dude has always been a top tier qb.

I think Stafford is pretty good, but McVay had them there with Jared Goff.

When you factor in they're the only team outside of NE and Green Bay who have had a legit top 10 starting QB for every single year since 2006 then being top 10 in regular season wins is the absolute floor. It definitely means they're poorly run.

Getting Romo/Dak back to back as low value starters for 2-3 years was what put Dallas at a competitive advantage.

Romo only played half a season on a below market contract.  He didn't touch the field until 6 games into his final year of his initial deal.  Actually now that I think about it he probably didn't even have a multi-year rookie deal.  He was probably year-to-year those first 4 years, and assuredly below market until he popped on the scene in 2006.

Eh, I have issues with this thought process, reads like it comes right from Jerrah.  Place the blame on the players because..... they're entitled from becoming a Cowboy?  In what way?  Since 2010, we have the 8th best winning percentage in the NFL but we have the least amount of playoff berths in the top 12 and the least amount of wins in the top half of the leagues winningest teams with 2.  Why?  Players come and go and the leadership structure of the team from a player perspective has turned over, this isn't a Aaron Rodgers or Roethlisberger paradigm.  If it's a culture issue as stated on the podcast then it's one of our own making and that circles back...... to the executive staff and ownership of the organization.  Entitlement culture is typically instilled top-down.

Also, we've only hired mediocre to poor coaches and where does coaching capabilities typically make the biggest impacts?  In December and the playoffs.  Get better executives who can assess and hire better coaches.  It's that easy.... and that hard.

No reason to expect anything different next year. Defense fun to watch. Offense streaky and inconsistent and undisciplined. Make playoffs. Lose.

If this season repeats itself, then they will have done something they haven't done in a some time.  Win the division in back to back years.

I'm not sure how you came away from my comments and concluded they sound like they're coming from Jerry.  I'm literally stating that the entitlement culture is coming from Jerry.

Much like Chido here alludes to there are too many extraneous components that come with being a Cowboy.  Fucking Jaylon Smith and even Ben Dinucci were focused on developing their brand which Jerry not only allows and encourages but helps to facilitate their commercial distractions that take away from a focus on football.

Sure! When you can trade one overrated quarterback and a 1 for another overrated quarterback, hi m you gotta jump on that.

To be fair to Kyler, at least he can make something out of nothing with his legs. Dak only does that when he “needs to” in big games almost like he doesn’t understand he can slide or get out of bounds. Kyler is better than Dak.

Stafford isn't that much better than Dak. He may not be any better. He had 2 interceptions and it took a last minute drive with a gifted 1st down on a BS holding call on 3rd and goal for them to barely break 20 and win. The refs gave them chance after chance with calls on contact they hadn't been calling all game.

Their defense won that game. Stafford just survived it with a big boost from the refs.

One pick was on 3rd and long throw down the field. The risk/reward justified that decision. The other was off the hands of a seldom used rookie.

The refs didn’t give them chance after chance. That holding call on #55 was every bit as legit as the damn call that put the Bengals in the playoffs.

And I’ve yet to see anyone reference the holding of Van Jefferson’s arm forcing him to try a one handed catch that killed a Rams drive. A pass that bounced off that free hand. It was a big non-call and blatant.

Seems the team had to pay to fix your shit, Rich.

Jerrah paying off the cheerleaders and then trying to bury is so on brand, considering he probably wouldn't survive in the #metoo era if he was in his lecherous prime.  Now that it's out, Dalrymple will probably be given his golden parachute and enjoy a soft landing retirement and this will leave the media cycle without any systemic change.  Maybe he's guilty, maybe he's not, but the taking upskirt photos of Jerrah's adult daughter is very weird to just shrug off.

And it's shit like this is why the owners haven't forced Danny S to sell.  They're all scared they have this issue or have already had it.  Maybe we get lucky and Jerrah can't bear the strain....
