I enjoyed the living shit outta season 2.

It's not a perfect series, but where it's good, it's great. The direction, editing, cinematography, top notch.

1. Celebrimbor vs Annatar was fucking legendary shit every time they were in a scene together.

2. Everyone who ever said Bombadil wouldn't translate to the screen can suck Rory Kinnear's transcendent performance.

3. Isildur. This is who Anakin Skywalker should've been

4. Apparently Adar's role was expanded on Simon Tolkien's request (Adar was supposed to die off much sooner) and it's clear why; SUCH a great addition, masterful acting. And I mean Sam Hazeldine here, not the season 1 guy

5. I'm getting used to a different Elrond now, and I like THIS Galadriel over LOTR's.

6. To put #1 another way, Charlie Vickers has been a slam dunk in every way. Challenging role that he makes believable. I actually find myself rooting for the bad guy, and then regretting it later. Just... there's no words.

7. dwarves are meh

8. i hate theo and arondir passionately but it's ok

Well, that was just fantastic.  I'm going to have to re-watch it now to make sense of a lot of things.  The only thing that I didn't really like that much was the Harfoots meeting up with those other things.  The dark wizard wasn't quite as dark as I had hoped.  But overall, that was a great time.  I think I will enjoy it a lot more the second time.

By the way, did anyone else need to watch with subtitles?

By other things, do you mean the other harfoots that had been part of the same clan/group some hundreds of years ago?

Ok, I just finished it up.  Pretty wild ass last two episodes and we have so much more to go.  It does kinda suck that they had to basically cut out a couple of thousand years to make it get closer to the Third Age stories, but I'm sure it will be fine.

I really liked how they showed the final corruption of the Orcs.  I'm really excited to see the corruption of Men next and watch the formation of the Nazgul.  Also, Celebrimbor went out like a G.

A lot of room for Elendil to come to Middle Earth and put Joffrey Jr. in his place in the next season or two.  Same with Gandalf and the Blue Wizard (that hasn't been specifically confirmed, but it has to be, by process of elimination).  And there is one more out there somewhere.

So let's all buckle down and wait another 2 years or whatever for Season 3.  Whatever, I'm entertained.  And we have the Gollum movie next year?

Yes…I wasn’t a huge fans of that storyline. I’m going to rewatch the whole season again. Maybe I’ll enjoy it a little more on the second viewing.

They sure went out of their way to make the Dark Wizard look and act like Saruman.  If that's supposed to be him, it's a weird character arc that they are going for as he was supposed to be good before Sauron corrupted him with a Palantir in the 3rd age, wasn't he?

according to the show writers the Dark wizard is 100% NOT Saruman

I heard someone say they should have had the Stranger end up to be Saruman. That would have been great as we see him doing good things and fighting evil, and then we see his corruption later. I get why they made him “Grand Elf” but would have been way better if it was Saruman.

Show watches better in a binge than a week to week.  At least season 1 did.

Will also probably do the same later this year.

I don't know if I could binge it. The episodes are long. Also, I enjoy sitting through the recaps, credits, etc. Kinda gets me in the mood.

Oh yeah, I'm going to watch all the episode recaps/explanations.  I just realized those existed last night.

Not gonna watch them all in a sitting but a 3 or 4 day weekend is usually doable.

how did arondir just magically pop up after getting killt by adar in the prior episode

Same way Bronwyn magically died after being perfectly fine at the end of S1 - writers. Although Bronwyn’s abrupt writing death was due to the actress stepping away from acting, and thus felt more like they forgot they stabbed him to death in the prior episode

I watch everything with subtitles. Either there's an accent or the voice volume is too low, but raising the TV volume will blow out my ear drums for the sound effects/music

I lived in Louisiana for a year.  I can understand any variant of English now...

LOLz at the folks who needed the subtitles for Alfie in Peaky Blinders.

I agree with this.

For me mostly because limited attention span and spotty memory (like…didnt Arondir really get stabbed in the last episode??).

Watching it continuously connects all the storylines better.  Gonna repeat on S02

agree with most of this.  the dwarves story needed to be tightened up.  too much unnecessary cheesy drama.

the Orcs being portrayed as "innocent doofuses" seemed weird.  holy grail burn her she's a witch type stuff.

better than season 1 for sure.  will need a rewatch though.

Renewed for season 3 + time jump

https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-news/rings-of-power-season-3-renewed-1236134859/

The Hollywood Reporter can reveal the show is executing a major time jump going into the new episodes, with Sauron is now crafting the iconic One Ring. Here is the exclusive logline: “Jumping forward several years from the events of season 2, season 3 takes place at the height of the War of the Elves and Sauron, as the Dark Lord seeks to craft the One Ring that will give him the edge he needs to win the war and conquer all Middle-earth at last.”

The production also announced its director lineup for the third season, which includes two returning names and one new one. International Emmy award nominee Charlotte Brändström (Shōgun), who directed two episodes during season one and then directed (or co-directed) five episodes during season two, is back for a third round. Sanaa Hamri (The Wheel of Time)who directed three episodes in season two, is also back. While Stefan Schwartz (The Boys, The Walking Dead) is the newcomer on board for season three.

I wish Amazon would just come out and say "yes, we are committed to 5 seasons" because the showrunners said they have the entire thing planned out from start to finish in 5 seasons.

Especially since the last few seasons will be cheaper than the first few, thanks to a lot of effects work already being done, set design and sets built that can be easily repurposed, costuming, cast and crew being in a rhythm, writing being done, fan base already built in, social media firing on all cylinders, etc.

So are they not going to show the nine rings given to Men?  Seems like an important omission if so.

Also, here’s some pics from Hobbiton because it was fucking awesome.

Movie kinda sucks. The animation is a bit cheap and distracting and the story feels more like a 3-episode show than a LOTR epic movie.

Yeah I’m not a fan of that kind of animation. Might still give it a watch if I’m bored.
