The final Texas Thursday night 4/30:

Terms of Endearment

Urban Cowboy

Varsity Blues

Red River

I love all these films for different reasons. Well done Ben.

Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine Varsity Blues would appear on TCM. But here we are, 27 years out and it’s developed into a Friday Night Lights level classic.

  • If TCM was discontinued or stopped hosting non-interrupted movies I would drop DirecTV.

  • Strangers on a Train on now and then North by Northwest.

You left off The Life and Times of Judge Roy Bean. Underfuckingrated masterpiece.

It’a Marilyn Monroe month on TCM. She would have been 100 on Monday.

4 Monroe movies every Monday.

I watched Gentlemen Prefer Blondes tonight. Pleasant musical with a big number at the end. Marilyn Monroe is well, Marilyn Monroe, but Jane Russell is also stunning. I didn’t know much about Ms. Russell until I saw this movie. Holy smoke show.

I wish they still made movies like this.

You need to watch The Outlaw for premium Jane Russell.

Good film. Newman’s portrayal of Bean reminded me a lot of Hunter S. Thompson. Imagine if Thompson had been elected sheriff in Aspen.

Victoria Principal was a very lovely woman. I really only know her from Dallas. Sweet God Almighty. It was fun to see her in an earlier role.

The bear dying was the Scorsese needle drop. A fun, jovial movie on the A-side becomes a sad, fading memory of the Old West on the B-side. Our bigger golden doodle walks on her hind legs regularly, so I was of course devastated when the bear was killed protecting his master.

The Maltese Falcon and Double Indemnity tonight starting at 7.

Two of my favorites. I think in both cases I liked the book better. Definitely in regards to Double Indemnity. I know what I'm doing tonight. Thanks.
