Tepper is a major cheesedick and he has everybody's dream job but I've grown to appreciate his sincere passion for what Texas High School Football really is about. Im glad he spends the whole show on teams nobody cares about, and largely ignores Duncanville and North Shore, or Westlake and Carroll. Those teams always get talked about. Im here to see Timpson

I got a flat tire in Timpson one time.  Fuck that place

They have a hidden Whataburger that was worth a stop when I'd make my casino runs to Shreveport up 59.

Hard to believe they've pretty much never done shit with regard to football results... and yet Tenaha generally has had some great seasons.

That Whataburger is one of the best I've been to....been awhile though.

IMO - they just “care” more about their products and services re: small town DQ’s and WBs. Their customers are regulars for the most part and those are decent jobs for the small town employees. Rural town WB and DQs are the best!

In small towns nobody looks down their nose at those restaurants or jobs.  There is a pride of ownership.

As an undergraduate, I would nearly always stop at the Dairy Queen at the Elm Mott exit just north of Waco on my way home from UT to Fort Worth.  And in high school, we had a couple of carloads of seniors that would hit the DQ on the Bluebonnet Circle 2-4 times a week for lunch.

Who here remembers when DQ used to sell the Dennis the Menace popsicles?

More than just popsicles... He was on cups, fry and burger wrappers, ice cream bowls etc.  He was the official mascot or whatever from the mid 80's until probably early 2000's

They were the shit too

psa: call ahead to health camp on the circle and they will have your goods prepared for you on arrival

note they close early sometimes depending on how busy they are and if the rapists are on campus

don't rely on google for their close that day

call ahead when you clear hillsboro or temple to confirm it's an option after 7pm, i've seen them close at 8pm on a sunday night

they will want your credit card so have it ready

corn dogs are close to fletcheresque

chickenfriedsteak sandwich is basic: meat, lettuce, mayo, but it is always on the docket

then when you get there, order your blueberry malt to go, they always take the order when you get your call-ahead even if there is a line

$9.95

Health Camp is the only and I mean the only redeeming thing about Waco

Haven't been there since the early '70s, but there used to be a restaurant in Waco I loved as a kid called The Fireplace Inn.  I doubt if it's still around.  We'd usually hit Health Camp going to Austin and the Fireplace on the way home.

We have a countdown page for Texas’ first game, but the High Schoolers will start the week prior. I have a scrimmage scheduled as early as 8/12, so we are less than a month away from gridiron magic!

It’s hot out there, so hydrate! Even for the old-ass officials! I’ve already started my two-a-day regimen of running in the AM and walking in the evening. Those sub-varsity games that start around 4:30-5:00 are dangerously hot in August!
I worry about those Jr High kids early on, because hydration isn’t something like drinking a cup of water before practice or a game! It has to be done all day/week, so this is one part where Tom Herman was correct!

Even in my days in the Army, if you weren’t peeing “clear” at 10 AM, you weren’t “hydrated” enough! Drink water gentlemen if you’re going to be out when it’s the hottest part of the day.

Hook’em!

Well, the polls are out and as usual, Westlake's been disrespected! MaxPreps shaved off our logo to minimize our impact.

And Dave Campbell's Texas Football is doing their usual bait-and-switch, "rank us too high to sabotage our season," hack.

Joking aside, I do predict our 3-year reign of terror ends this year. We will have a good line, pretty good D, great RB & WRs. However, there will be a BIG drop-off at QB as two untested players battle for the job and I think you need a great, proven QB to win it all. North Shore was an exception last year w/ a very talented freshman but he could be a generational player. We could even lose games in district to LT and Dripping Springs.

Dripping?  That may be your best anti-weauxf yet.

Dripping Springs will be a hard game. It's in their house, they have a terrific QB (heading to Baylor), and they will be psyched out of their minds as they enter 6A.

It's tough living life as an eternal pessimist but I manage.

Mom was one of two cheerleaders for the first ever 6-man state champs the O’Brien Bulldogs. She used to tell us about how they’d get out of school during cotton season because all of the boys were out helping their fathers, so the girls stayed home and helped their mothers with the house and made sure the men were fed. Danny del Hierro and Louis Conn were some cotton planting, touchdown scoring machines.

We are really close gentlemen! My first couple of scrimmages are 8/12 and 8/13! I’ve got another on 8/18 too.

Are your players (kids) hydrating now? It’s MFing HOT out there and a cup of water before practice ain’t enough! I’m only a referee and I damn near pee every hour on the hour - during the day.
