For real tho. Keep being mentioned as a bubble team. They’d literally have to win out to even still be on the bubble lol.

7-11 might get them in. I think they can find 3 more wins. They needed this one a lot though

I like how OU drew up some crazy inbounds play but had no idea what to do when Carr missed the FT. Big lumbering white dude going up the floor

A big rebounding with no opponent in the lane….let’s just say that’s dumb

only because the bubble is so soft.  some mid major tourney upsets would push them off at 7-11.

It amazes me when coaches miss such simple stuff that you would learn in middle school

Nice win on the road. I didn’t see anyone say anything but, does the Oklahoma P.A. Guy count down the shot clock?

Also, I get a bit nervous when Carr dribbles so much.

Yes he does, which was odd but at least he did it for both sides.

Only one shot clock above the basket was working. They turned the other off and he had to count for both sides. Janky af

People drastically undervalue how bad the bubble is. For instance, the last team in Lunardi's bracket is Oregon right now. Compare Oregon and OU's resume.

NET: OU #37, Oregon #59

Q1 wins: OU 3, Oregon 2

Q1  and Q2 wins combined: OU 7, Oregon 6

Q3 and Q4 losses combined (Bad losses): OU 1, Oregon 3

7-11 is definitely getting OU in because 3 more wins are going to be quality wins.

OU has @ISU, @Tech, OSU, WV, @KSU.  There’s 3 wins in there

I don't really care if OU gets in but my biggest beef is inconsistency with the NCAA committee.

aggy made the NCAA tournament last year in softball at 8-16 in the SEC. If that can get you in the NCAA tournament there's no reason 7-11 shouldn't be good enough in the Big 12 for men's basketball.

I agree they have a good shot at 7-11 because bad bubble but at some point where you end up in your conference will matter.  yes it's a tough conference but even committees understand you will win some games just by being in the league and playing at home unless you are flat awful like Georgetown.

the other thing they have going for them is OSU is out so the "move up" a spot in the conf order if OSU finishes above them.

do you think they'd be in at 6-10 with wins against OSU/WV at home and losses to ISU/TT/KSU away? Or any combo to make 2-3 and a first round loss in the B12 tournament?  They'd still have a better resume than Oregon.

To be fair, Tech sold their soul to beat us this year. They could've gone 1-35 and it would've been worth it to them if it was against us.

Defense substitution with no timeouts left.

Couldn’t watch live. Just finished dvr. Didn’t read the thread, but I’m sure it’s full of offensive lamentations. Strange, though, to the naked eye we look disjointed and sloppy so much, but had multiple players actually step up and make plays when it mattered. That’s something this team has lacked forever.
Really good win.
Fuck ou.

Iowa State is going to be the interesting team to watch. They are 4-9 in the Big 12 but they also have 8 Q1 wins.

If they finish 6-12 I think there's a legit shot they get in with that many quality wins. I think Baylor is the only team with more Q1 wins in the country.

If OU wants to make the tournament they need to keep Tanner Groves on the bench. Needs to play less than 20 minutes a game.

The broadcasters kept talking about "the Groves brothers have been nonexistent so it's a miracle they're in the game" which made me chuckle all night. Groves simply doesn't have the athleticism to play at this level which is why Texas prioritized some other bigs over him in the transfer portal. In Austin, Texas was head hunting Groves on both ends.

The worst news for Texas all night was the fact neither Groves brother played much.

Really starting to look like a team that has what it takes to win tough tourney games. If they can keep themselves in games (which their defense tends to do), they seem to have what it takes to grind out close W’s…sans that KSt game

That KSU game looks like it was a hell of a teaching moment for this squad.  We won/closed out close games against: OSU, Tennessee, KU and OU (in OT) in our current 6-2 stretch since that game.

It was definitely a teaching moment but KSU is also pretty good. If they didn't have Covid issues early in the year they would probably be in good shape to make the NCAA tournament.

I would take their back court in a heart beat over ours in Smith, Pack and McGuirl. If they just had a competent big they would be very good.

No. 20/20 Men's Basketball wins 80-78 in overtime at Oklahoma

Timmy Allen and Andrew Jones each register 20 points to lead the Longhorns to a regular-season sweep over the Sooners.

Quote

NORMAN, Okla. — Seniors Timmy Allen and Andrew Jones each scored 20 points to pace No. 20/20 Texas (19-7, 8-5 Big 12) to an 80-78 victory in overtime at Oklahoma (14-12, 4-9 Big 12) on Tuesday night at the Lloyd Noble Center. With the win, the Longhorns completed a regular-season sweep over the Sooners for the first time since the 2017-18 season.

Jones converted 8-of-14 field goals, including 4-of-5 from three-point range, and tied his season high with seven rebounds in a career high-tying 43 minutes. Allen recorded six points while hitting 3-of-3 field goals and grabbing two offensive rebounds during the decisive overtime period. Allen connected on 8-of-13 field goals and 4-of-4 free throws while adding two steals in 29 minutes.

Senior Christian Bishop posted 16 points while hitting 5-of-6 field goals and 6-of-6 free throws to go along with six rebounds and tied a season high with three assists in 29 minutes. Senior Marcus Carr tallied 16 points while converting 5-of-11 field goals and 6-of-10 free throws in 37 minutes.

Oklahoma took a 7-6 lead at the 15:26 mark following an Elijah Harkless three-pointer. Texas responded with a 7-0 spurt over the next two-plus minutes to build a 13-7 advantage after a Jones three-pointer with 12:56 remaining. A pair of Bishop free throws gave the Longhorns a 26-23 cushion at the 4:12 mark, but Oklahoma answered with two free throws from Jalen Hill and a Harkless layup to grab a 27-26 lead with 3:16 remaining.

Texas scored the next five points, including a transition three-pointer by Jones to take a 31-27 advantage at the 1:36 mark. A pair of Jordan Goldwire free throws with 1:22 left trimmed the margin to 31-29 at the break. UT held the Sooners to 29 points on 30.8-percent field goal shooting (8-26), including a 2-of-12 mark (.167) from three-point range, in the opening 20 minutes.

Tied at 37-37 at the 14:20 mark, the Sooners scored five straight points over a 90-second window to grab a 42-37 advantage after two Umoja Gibson free throws with 12:45 remaining. The Longhorns immediately responded with a 15-3 spurt over the next four minutes to build a 52-45 cushion following a Jones layup at the 8:50 mark.

Texas took a 63-57 advantage after a Bishop dunk with 3:07 left. The Sooners used a 9-3 run down the stretch to tie the score at 66-66 following a Goldwire layup with 38 seconds remaining. Both teams had an offensive possession in the final 30 seconds, but neither team scored to force overtime.

Oklahoma built a 72-69 cushion to start the overtime session following an Ethan Chargois layup with 2:54 remaining. Trailing 76-75 at the 1:18 mark after a Harkless jumper, the Longhorns used a Bishop layup and an Allen tip-in to take a 79-76 lead with 11 seconds left.

Harkless made two free throws with six seconds remaining to trim the margin to 79-78. Carr was fouled and hit 1-of-2 free throws with four seconds left, and Harkless missed on a shot from half-court to seal the victory for Texas.

Texas returns to action when it hosts No. 11/11 Texas Tech on Saturday, Feb. 19. Tip is set for 11:30 a.m. Central at the Frank Erwin Center, and the game will be televised nationally by ABC.
