I'm a solid Gen-Xer, and have not idea what these are:

Flash cubes for a camera, a makeup mirror, nutcracking kit, electric skillet and I can’t make out the last one, maybe a chalk holder for drawing music bars.

On my phone here, but:

1. Flash cubes. Think old flash bulb, with several uses per cube (it rotated) vice one bulb.

2. Looks like a make-up mirror with light and radio?

3. Can’t tell

4. Electric skillet, I’m guessing

5. Alligator clips like you’d see a feather hanging from. Close inspection of the clip would reveal more clues as to the intended use

What’s directly above the chalk holders?

Remote control.

Those early 70s remotes were awesome. They used ultrasonic tones from the remote to control everything. You could fuck with the volume or channels by shaking keys/whistling/tapping a wine glass, etc. My neighbor had one and we used to fuck with her mom by shaking keys in the other room.

r/todayilearned - TIL Early Zenith TV remotes changed channels by sound. When you push the button, a small hammer strikes an aluminum rod, triggering a sound above our hearing range that’s picked up by the TV.

Those sneaks need to be NewBalance for peak Dad fashion...

And cargo shorts instead of jorts. Those pockets come in handy.

I will point out that the gentleman looks a lot more like grandad than dad. It looks like grandad is helping out his hopelessly inept son-in-law by fixing his pathetic stairs while wondering how his daughter fell for this loser.
