So much this.  I don't understand how Trumpaloos can say with a straight face "This never would have happened if TFG were still president."

I mean, I can, because brain worms, but it takes an extraordinary amount of mental gymnastics/cognitive dissonance to be of the opinion that Putin would have been so afraid of Dotard that he never would have thought to invade Ukraine again.

Do you even Helsinki bro?

Putin was the real loser of the 2020 election.

Am I the only one who notices the striking similarity between the language of the propaganda being used currently by the Russkies and the language of the propaganda being used by the supporters of "everyone's favorite president" starting in, say, 2015ish?

Surely I'm not.

No. Its why they're so fragile in the DT thread right now. They're having a tough time reconciling their support of Ukraine when their favorite politicians and talking heads are laundering Russian propaganda.

Correct.  It's why they react screaming like a scalded dog when confronted by the fact that the leading cheerleaders for TFG on Fox are currently cheerleaders for Russian propaganda.

It's because they know that this is true:

And they are now confronted with a situation that no longer allows them to pretend that it isn't anathema to the US and all western interests.

Total war terrorism. I don't know that Putin can find a way to conduct this war in an any worse manner.

Bomb civilians or children's hospitals anywhere and you don't make them want to capitulate. You make them furious with rage. They don't want to wave a white flag. They want revenge.

It's a mistake we make over and over because we think every war is WWII where our boys will be cheered as liberators. We have a hard time with the simple lesson that people don't much like invaders of any kind.

The number of Ukraine patriots willing to seriously risk their lives to launch a missile or shoot a soldier has just gone up.

I don't think Putin is insane. I think he just keeps compounding the bad decision to invade Ukraine with increasingly horrific decisions. He's completely undone whatever he'd achieved in making NATO less stable and the democracies of the world less resolved.

And his mounting delays and steadily building losses are driving him insane.  If he wasn't crazy before all of this, he will be shortly.  Add increased paranoia regarding assassins and the man has to be crazy at this point.

Ha--some still use Commie as their goto slur to socialist policies.  What a conundrum.  If you don't like our laws, move to Russia.  Whoops!

Before he was banned, Trump had tweets mentioning Ukraine. Obviously I cannot embed them as his account is for all practical purposes not accessible. However, through the archive, here is a choice tweet or two from some years back:

AUGUST 1, 2016: "When I said in an interview that Putin is "not going into Ukraine, you can mark it down," I am saying if I am President. Already in Crimea!

JUNE 20, 2017: It was a great honor to welcome President Petro Poroshenko of Ukraine to the @WhiteHouse today with @VP Pence

He said in a phone call to John Daly he told Putin if he invaded Ukraine he would "hit Moscow". Of course this never happened but he claims he said it.

You forgot the part where the big strapping Aryan man had tears in his eyes.

250,000 fought for the Nazis. 4.5 million for the Soviets.

Soviets joined up as a buddy to Hitler to attack Poland.  And they committed atrocities against the Polish, including mass murder.  The only reason they weren't on the axis was that Hitler didn't respect Stalin.   The only reason that Stalin and Russian didn't fold was because of the Lend Lease Act.

Must never forget the Javelins they have are mainly due to 2 purchases during Trump's admin. Be fair. Why did Obama never give lethal aid even after the invasion of Crimea?  Serious question.

Because Obama wasn't directly responsible.  These are congressional appropriations.

It is, apparently, true that officials in the Obama Defense and State Departments counseled against delivering lethal aide to Ukraine, and, apparently those officials (maybe even the same ones) did not provide the same counsel during the Trump administration.

And, the situations "on the ground" were different.  In 2015, there continued to be active fighting in Donbas.  In 2018-19, there was not.  The UA government in 2014-2015 was corrupt and unstable.  Less so in 2018-19.

What's your answer?  Why didn't Obama and why did Trump?

Hmm?  Tell us.

Is it because Obama was weak and feckless and Trump was a big strong man?

President Joe Biden is not very good at his job, and yet, I thank God every day that Biden is president. In the Ukraine crisis, he has redeemed the hopes of those who voted for competence. The administration’s warnings to Moscow were unambiguous without being hysterical. Our revelations of intelligence unmasking Russian disinformation and false flag narratives were on the nose. Biden’s coordination with European allies was a skillful presentation of unity (special kudos to Secretary of State Antony Blinken).

There were some missed opportunities. The president should have placed the invasion of Ukraine in a broader historical context and outlined how the struggle between democracy and authoritarianism is the defining issue of our time, whether abroad or at home. And he ought not to suggest or pretend that Americans can be spared any hardship, even higher gas prices, during this fight.

But Biden sees clearly what sort of menace Russian President Vladimir Putin is. Only the most obtuse or twisted soul could fail to see it... which brings us to the president’s predecessor…

If you’re interested in the real reason instead of the message board reason you can read this, written at the end of January.

https://www.stimson.org/2022/u-s-military-assistance-to-ukraine/

US has steadily increased its aid in both amount and kind since the 2014 ouster of the Russian-leaning Yanucovych.  Once Ukraine started its westward focus in 2014, we started giving them stuff.  The more we were sure that the movement was real, the more and the more lethal the stuff we gave them.

LOL you quoted me off a non CR thread, I LOVE this flag. That's why I fly it 24/7.  It is what America is about. Ukrainians are stopping tyranny. This should not be controversial.
Let me see the view from your duplex with a Chinese flag.

The Gadsden flag used it mean something. Now, it’s been so co-opted by ginormous pieces of shit that it’s functionally become theirs and theirs alone. It’s a damned shame.

Ukraine should fly their flag. It’s theirs. They’re fighting and dying for it. Fuck, maybe WE should start flying it, as it stands for a unified nation fighting against tyranny and authoritarian rule. Most of the fuckers around here flying the Gadsden flag would benefit from that example.

You're such a child.  Posting a photo of your big SUV in McMansion world.  I can't speak for everyone else here, but I was certainly impressed.

No wonder you're pissed about energy prices.

Dude, the car is kind of hard to miss.  But that's how you planned it.

So tell me what you're doing to stop the Gadsden flag from being converted into a MAGA symbol.
