So to recap- we’re preventing delivery of weapons and aid we already approved and paid for. We stopped sharing intelligence with Ukraine. The Secretary of Defense ordered a stand down on fights against Russian cybersecurity threats.

Can the press stop repeating the administration’s lies about peace and just admit that we are using all of our leverage to force a Ukrainian surrender?

Oh, there's still more leverage to come, I'm afraid.

....and it's not about the $350 billion (fact check -- $174.2 bilion) we have spent. I mean, how much money are we saving by not sharing intelligence with Ukraine? Zero.

It's about 1) us wetting our beak [rare earth mineral rights] and 2) letting Putin off the hook without one single concession.

And playing to the masses who have never been sold on why we're involved in Ukraine in the first place. Why are we in Europe? Why do we protect Taiwan? Why do we send aid to all these foreign countries? Why do we have soldiers in Korea? Why do we have all these aircraft carriers? Why are we members of the UN? At one point it was about defending ourselves from the threat of communism and its support for worldwide revolution. But now Russia is not so bad. They have a lot of resources and frankly Putin has a lot of qualities to admire. A lot like Hitler. Strong people who are misunderstood and wrongly cast as villains. We should be more like them. We should be friends.

The calculation here is that Ukrainian leaders care about their people but Putin’s regime does not care about Russians.  Thus, the clearest path to a “deal” is to speed up the deaths of Ukrainians.

And when it results in dead Americans, that is 100% on Trump.  Alienate all of your friends, expect no favors or help from them.  That's how it works in the purely transactional paradise he wants to create.  It leads to dead Americans.

That's a significant danger with democracies. Tyranny of the majority, who happen to be morons. That's part of why the founding fathers purposefully made it so difficult to get anything done. It's not a bug. It's a feature. Newer democracies have all gone to parliamentary systems for that reason. Heck, when we helped institute constitutions in Germany and Japan after WWII we didn't have them emulate ours. It's too tough to get anything done.

The problem is the United States became too powerful when everyone else wasn't, and so it took on aspects that the system of government wasn't ideally suited for. It worked when the Democrats and Republicans basically saw eye to eye with not a lot of difference between the two. Then Newt Gingrich got to Washington and led the Republicans to taking on a more belligerent opposition to the Democrats, basically calling out the manhood of his Republican peers for agreeing to go along with what was essentially a monopoly of legislative power for 60 years. Add in the polarizing nature of social media, the more precise gerrymandering capable with better computing power, and our instinctual need to seek out tribal affiliations by nature, along with a gradual diminishment of overall American might, and you have present day.

But I'd argue any general democracy would have similar dangers. It's just always been a particular danger for the United States, mostly because we're too powerful for our own good, in some ways. If the United States was a minor country, none of this would have the importance it does right now.

Get ahold of yourself man. Jesus.

Give me one good reason for any of our former allies to share intel with us. Shit, their unwise adoption of US weaponry has made them unacceptably vulnerable.
We are a hostile enemy state now. It’s not exactly a subtle mystery - we’ve said it. When you openly masturbate about the idea of conquering your closest ally and neighbor…you are an enemy state.
We have no allies anymore, save one. It just happens to be the one you like.

Israel joined the US in that vote last week AGAINST calling for Russia's withdrawal from Ukraine. In doing so, the US and Israel joined the rogue nation club, consisting of 18 shitty countries, including such stalwarts of "truth, justice, and the asshole way" as Russia, North Korea, Belarus, and Nicaragua.

Edit: So, yes, Bibi will support Trump. The UK, on the other hand, is with the rest of the Free World and would be fools to help this regime.

ok so British capabilities? when it comes to Europe defending Ukraine - intelligence is probably the number one weakness, as well as some advanced weaponry but I think the Brits have enough on the weapons side for Europe to do just fine. so how is their stand alone intelligence for Ukraine?

How so? Seriously…you are one of our former allies. Why would you continue to expose yourself to risk by sharing intel with your stated enemy? It’s just fucking common sense. Any gesture of help to the US is seen as vulnerability and weakness, and a point of attack by the American regime. Why would you expose yourself like that?

Americans are going to have to suffer if we’re going to have any chance of surviving as a Republic. That’s a cold hard truth. You need to absorb it.
I never, ever, ever wanted it to be that way. I’ve rung every alarm bell I could imagine to warn against us reaching this juncture, I’ve actively worked against it in my personal and professional life…but here we are.
Tell me that something other than massive pain and suffering will get us to alter our plunge into fascist authoritarianism - but you have to have a credible take when you do so. And…you know you can’t muster one up.
It fucking sucks.

Dude has lost his mind. The topic of this thread is Ukraine. The reality is that American politicians and political scientists long predating Trump knew exactly what they were doing and predicted the outcomes. Biden laid it out in 2012 for christsake. The fucking architect of American Cold War strategy told everyone how it was going to play out. Numerous political scientists and commentary called out the play, and the inevitable outcomes. And here we fucking are. All that shit came to pass. You got brisket ranting about authoritarianism in the US, while we have funded and armed all the worst fucking things that he doesn't want to come back to home. Banning political opposition, stifling critical press, suppressing religious expression, cancelling elections. And that is just in the last few years in Ukraine. Sure you do. Because insufficient, measured, slow-drip cruelty and suffering won’t trigger any response in time. And then, when it’s too late to stop them (because all checks are done)…then you get the death and brutality, because they are unstoppable and answerable to no one.
In this timeline, your only choice is WHEN the death and brutal suffering happens, not “if.” Personally, I’d like it to happen soon enough for us to have a fighting chance to arrest our plunge into authoritarianism (which always, 100% of the time, results in death and suffering).
Oh…and maybe realize that the regime is not only FINE with Americans dying and suffering, they are actively working for that goal. Quit being soft. This is an existential fight. It’s already gruesome.

Those things he listed don’t bother Ana at all. They only bother him when they are against Russia’s (and thus Trump’s) interests. Seriously…Ana…calling out things like banning political opposition. One thing about this timeline for sure: irony is dead and buried.
