Harlan County, USA is on at 9:45 tomorrow. If you haven't seen this excellent documentary about a bloody Kentucky coal mine strike in the early 70's, I highly recommend.

I have been in that area quite a bit because of my job and have mingled with the miners. Had one guy say that they would share their wives (do not want to see pics) with you before they would let you cross a picket line.

I seen this documentary and enjoyed it.

Please, if you’ve never seen this film then do yourself a favor and watch it. It’s a masterpiece from start to finish. Everything about it is great. The casting, the acting, the lighting, the sound, the music, the wardrobe. It’s got it all. You won’t be disappointed. It’s a delight.

We watched Wings last night. Or at least I did, spouse was working on his laptap and kind of keeping up. One thing about those old silents, multi-tasking is a big challenge!

Gary Cooper making his brief appearance was worth it. Clara Bow may have been the "It" girl of the decade, but Cooper was a nice tall drink of water. We missed the very start, so I didn't hear any of the background story of the film prior to its beginning, but I enjoyed the movie, nevertheless.

A couple, but none had Flynn.

Looking at his list of work, I have seen at least 22 of the movies that he was in.  He supported some real heavy weight actors of the time from the late 30's through the late 40's.  Musical, drama, comedy, thrillers, war, westerns, he did them all.

He was in some bad movies, but he was never bad in a movie. For that matter, you can say the same about Jr. He had a solid big screen career playing the same kind of roles and the occasional bad guy before he was The Skipper.

That's 4 damn good movies.

Edit: Grand Prix is quite possibly the best racing film ever. The photography is mind blowing. There's no CGI to lean on. But, there's plenty of young, horny, Jessica Walter to ogle.

philadelphia story gets better every time i watch it and i've seen it 30x.  3 monster stars at the top of their game.  jimmy stewart's drinking scenes crack me up like anything funny i might watch today, and that movie is over 80 years old.

First time I saw it was at Hogg auditorium in mid 80s in the middle of day. A bunch of old old ladies and I were only ones in audience. Stunned at how sharp and funny it was and made me interested in old movies.

Saw Chariots of Fire last night. The movie plays fast and loose with some of the facts and timeline, but I remember watching it on television when I was young.

I saw this movie in the theater when it came out during my high school years. Have not seen it since. All I remember from it is the theme song! Maybe should give it another look.

^^Saw that news; rest in peace to a fine actor.

We sat down for a twofer last night: Bonnie and Clyde and Sense and Sensibility.

Solid performances, although I see why the adapted screenplay for Sense and Sensibility by Emma Thompson won the Oscar, it's a little suspect on the ages of the characters  with the exception of Marianne (Winslet at age 20) because they were much younger in the book. I read that Thompson was reluctant to be cast as Elinor and while she is an amazing actress, I wonder what would've happened if they'd have cast someone like Rachel Weisz, who would've been about 25 at the time and a pretty good actress. I understand why things shook out the way they did and with casting Hugh Grant, Alan Rickman, and all, but just one of those things. Also, I love Hugh Laurie in this film. He is such a gem.

Bonnie and Clyde. Well, that one is just a good watch all around. Hadn't seen it for a number of years.

I'm a little disappointed that Breaking Away (Winner: Best Screenplay) doesn't seem to have made the schedule this month. That is a great movie. Like My Cousin Vinny, so many quotable lines and the storyline tees up so many themes and emotions.

Refund?! Refund?!

Everybody cheats.

One of my favorite movies of all time.

I was disappointed M*A*S*H wasn't aired this month either.  It won one Oscar (Best Writing) but Sally Kellerman, who passed away in Feb, had a nomination as Best Supporting Actress as Hot Lips.

The Treasure of the Sierra Madre was the first John Houston film and one of the first classic movies I ever saw and loved.  From the acting, filming and to the story it’s still one of my favorites of all time.  Such a great movie.

Bogie and the Hustons get all the praise, but Tim Holt's performance was severely underrated.
