We don't have a working recording device right now and with the schedule TCM has for air times I have been kicking myself.

I was disappointed M*A*S*H wasn't aired this month either.  It won one Oscar (Best Writing) but Sally Kellerman, who passed away in Feb, had a nomination as Best Supporting Actress as Hot Lips.

Have you checked the whole schedule? It's on their on demand and HBO Max hub.

2:00 AM  Leaving Las Vegas (1995)

This movie was pretty scandalous when I was a kid. What made it worse was my Mom (no pics) was a dead ringer for Susan Hayward. Cringe factor 9.5

Leaving Las Vegas hits a little too close to home for comfort. iykwim

The Gay Divorcee (1934) is not bad either--'course I like watching Fred and Ginger dance, so there is that, but that particular movie was based on Fred Astaire's last stage show (and then going by the title Gay Divorce).  Cole Porter wrote the music and lyrics for the Broadway show, and Fred singing the eventual number one hit, Night And Day.  That was the only song that made it from the original musical book from the stage production into the film.

The plot is so-so, but this was IIRC Fred's second pairing with Ginger and what a lovely pair they make.

Perhaps not my favorite Astaire film, but a treat to watch.

And the late Ms. Kellerman was in A Little Romance yesterday playing Diane Lane's mother.

Sally Kellerman and Gary Lockwood are in one of the best Star Trek TOS episodes, before they became famous.  I think it was a metaphor for drugs but I'll have to yield to a more experienced opinion.  In each case I was surprised to hear they had died because I didn't think they were alive.

Air Force is so vastly underrated. I always enjoy catching it on those rare occasions. And of course Battleground is one of the top WWII movies ever. Looks like I picked a good time to catch a cold so I can sit around on my ass all day watching movies.

Grapes of Wrath is a such a great movie. Instantly transports you to that terrible time in our country's history and the grit it took to get through it.

It’s a beautifully made film, too. I commented about it the first time I saw it several years ago. From a technical standpoint it’s brilliant. Later on I went to IMDb to see who was the cinematographer. Turns out it was Gregg Toland, the same guy who shot Citizen Kane.

I’ve often thought that if you really want to appreciate Citizen Kane, you should spend a week or so watching nothing but movies made pre-Kane. I can usually tell when I tune into an old b&w film whether it was made before or after Citizen Kane. When I first saw Grapes of Wrath I thought that was probably the best looking pre-Kane film I ever saw so it made perfect sense when I discovered they were shot by the same guy.

He was terribly great in national velvet.

I tend to agree. He was a bit too "campy" at times for me but, there were some movies were he was really good. But, his family roots were in vaudeville/burlesque, so I think that can be excused. Plus, it was a different time for sure. I liked his performance in Boys Town.

HDNet movie channel has been playing some of these movies lately, too, On the Waterfront, Young Lions, Marty, The African Queen, etc...

One of the few fading reasons to keep DirecTV.

I agree, and his contemporary of the time was Jackie Cooper and Cooper had his roots in the Our Gang  comical shorts, so it did seem to be a different style for the time. When young Roddy McDowell arrives on the scene several years later, perhaps the style was already changing?

I gave my husband that expression after having a shot of Redbreast that had been smuggled into the country by a family member in the early 80s and then stashed away for many years to be held for special occasions (which, as it happened, was our engagement announcement). *Hands down, best whiskey I've ever had.

I will say that the toast bestowed upon us must have given us a lot more luck than that of said characters above.

*Spoiled me to the point that I rarely drink whiskey these days.

In fairness, I think the problem wasn't so much bad luck as Charley wasn't really looking out for him.   Charley was his brother and he should have known better.

This is such a great film. June Allyson steals the show. She’s radiant. She’s brilliant every time she’s on screen, particularly in the final scene. Joy and sadness at once. It’s breathtaking.
