Depending on how many pictures you have, you probably are better off sending them off to get scanned and cataloged for you.

Once you get the photos back scanned on a disc (or in the case of a co-worker, the service they used provided a Dropbox for a year with all the photos) you can import them to your computer and start tagging them with info.  There's a number of apps that can do that for you.

About 7 years ago, I spent hundreds of hours cataloging, dating, and organizing photos into albums stored on Google Photos. Didn’t even have scan them.

The number of times anyone has viewed them is exactly zero.
