I saw something on a news story about them passing out water and "the town really comes together for things like this."  Why don't they come together and get the water fixed?

This got a hearty lol from me.

Marshall sucks but Shreveport is god awful. I’m not sure why the Longview hotel clerk acted so uppity about it. Part of the town was out of water the other day too.

Yeah, when I googled this story, it seems like water outages are not uncommon to that part of Texas, despite having plenty of actual water.  Basically, all of the towns have really old pipes and don't want to spend the money to fix anything.

To make matters worse on the trip to Marshall, there was evidently a softball tournament there this past weekend so all of the hotels were full.  Assuming at least a decent number of people suffered it out, they all used the bathroom and could only flush the toilets only once.  God help the cleaning crews.

Also, my bougie ass is down there spending $2500 on a dog.  You think I'm roughing it in some motherfucking third world hotel in Marshall?  Hell naw.

As we were driving to Longview, the wife (no pics) said "They room is a suite with a living area and it's only $120/night!!??"

CoTex saw the thread title and thought to himself, “NOW IS MY TIME!”

My work requires me to visit there from time to time and, the thing I do there is lucrative, so I go gladly.

They treat me well there too.  I even went to a damned walk the red carpet movie premier in that town and had dinner with an actor and the director at the jalapeño tree after.

Marshal tips for you amateurs.

1.  the Whataburger on the south side of town is superior to the Whataburger on the north side of town.

2. The Italian restaurant on the north side of the square is serviceable for lunch and dinner.

3.  If you have to get a Covid booster skip the Walgreens and cvs and go to super one.

4.  If you want a good time head north to Jefferson and go to Skinner’s or go to uncertain and hit the lighthouse.  Dont eat the seafood at the lighthouse.

5.  Starbucks may or may not be open at any random hour.

6.  Schlotzskys has coke freestyle but it’s out of everything except orange drink.

7.  I don't think the red light cameras are connected.

If I think of anything else I’ll let you all know.

This might be the first time I’ve ever seen anyone on the internet acknowledge Uncertain, TX is a real thing.  I lived in Longview for years and if it wasn’t for my hunting lease even I would have had no idea that place existed.

Seems like if you go out to explore Caddo Mills, you stumble across Uncertain, and Karnack.

I grew up in Marshall. Water issues like you mentioned were never a thing. This must be a fairly new issue.

On the other hand, it’s been nearly 2 decades since I left home. My folks moved to another town, and then my grandmother passed-I think I’ve been there 3 times in the last dozen years. So I’m in basic agreement with the general point of the op. I don’t have any longing for the place.

I’d recommend Big Pines Lodge in Uncertain, but I’ve heard it’s not as good since it was rebuilt after a fire a few years back (and I obviously haven’t been).

Been through Marshall many times never attempted to spend the night thankfully.  But overall there is plenty of suckage there.  FYI, there are two Uncertain, Tx locations in the state.  The second is.....anyone?  Anyone? It is just west of Riveira in So Tx.

Hopefully it doesn't involve proper grammar.

I don’t think Big Pines has been the same since the original owners passed away. There was nothing better than walking in and grabbing a beer out of the cooler while waiting on a table. They were also huge longhorn fans and maybe even alums. Before the fire there were plenty of signs/memorabilia and if a game was on it was always on the TV behind where they sat at the counter.

I'm not putting this in food and travel because you should never travel to nor eat in Marshall.

So, the wife (no pics) and I drove to a small town in East Texas to pick up a new dog.  It was recommended we stay in nearby Marshall rather than Shreveport because Shreveport is a shit hole or something.

Anyway, we roll into Marshall after a long drive and checked into the hotel.  The clerk says "Hey, we don't have water here right now, is that OK?"  She went on to tell us that it had been out since mid afternoon and might be back on by morning.  Some yokel then chimed in that the people working on the water lived there so they were going to get it fixed.  (Never mind why it was broke in the first place.)  There was also some boil water order in place.

We figured this was too much so we hit the eject button and went to Longview.  Later we'd learn that this happens about once or twice a year in Marshall.  Pipes would bust, something would happen, etc.  It's why the locals were so flippant about it.  I saw something on a news story about them passing out water and "the town really comes together for things like this."  Why don't they come together and get the water fixed?  If this happened in my town, there would be a fucking riot and we'd hang the mayor.

Whatever you do, don't stay in Marshall.  They have a second world infrastructure and it's a crap shoot if the water works or not and if it doesn't, there doesn't seem to be much concern about it.  Never mind that East Texas has plenty of water.  We lived in San Antonio, which has all sorts of water issues but never that.  Then throw in the power grid from last year.....

I used to travel to Shreveport for business from about 2009 to 2013. Back then we'd always stay at the Golden nugget casino as it was the best place to stay in town. Never had an issue there and their late night kitchen was great after a long night of work. Is it not that way anymore?

Re: Item 1, I was about to tell you that you were regarded and your shit is all fucked up.  However, I google mapped it and saw those bastards had torn down the old school A frame Whataburger and built some new generic soulless building.  Ergo, I concede to your findings.

I spent quite a bit of time in Marshall a few years back. We ate at the Japanese hibachi place one evening. Went to take a piss and the men’s room wall had two identical framed posters of the leaning tower of Pisa.

i find the biggest holy shit in this thread is that there may be is a Japanese family living in Marshall, Tx.

For $2500 I hope that dog fetches your beer for you or at least retrieves your ducks to hand.

How do you boil water that you don't have?
