They are some cocky motherfuckers when they have a lead.

They’ve already assumed the win. Can’t say I blame them, but they should at least maintain a level of professionalism while calling the game

Why pull Cobb? So he can start on Wed?

IMO he’s definitely earned a shot at this Sunday/Tuesday competition. Duplantier may be our best shot on Sundays though. Gonna be interesting and most likely frustrating to watch play out. Whatever. Don’t care. We got a couple months to figure it out then our real season starts

What I just asked. 22 pitches, cruising, and you pull him with 4 innings to go? Pierce keeps making it harder. Needs to take a hard look at some of the decision making lately.

I would have preferred Duplantier start today, but no guaranty that it would have gone better

I mean Fields had a horrible season but LOL that he torpedoed that season. A lot went into that. And Gustafson and Garrido also played shitty players...because they were the players we happened to have at the time.

I can kind of get putting yet-unproven players in tough situations with the idea that the confidence shown may get them over the hump.

But it's kind of a mixture of that and not having just a wealth of options.

We may need to curb our enthusiasm a bit.

I’m also cool with a definite strike thrower with some stuff against shitty teams we absolutely HAVE to beat

Just infuriating that he fucking ran Blair out onto the mound. Games not over but doing that is just a kick in the nuts to the psyche of your team because everyone in the stadium knows he sucks

Curious … who infuriated you most?  The USCe coach who had the audacity to throw his #1 in a 7 inning game or Pierce throwing Blair in the middle of an extended road trip?

Are we going to bring in Nixon? I guess it would be good to get some work in, but how long do you throw him?

Don’t have to since we play again Tuesday and Wednesday.

Pierce needs to scale back the scheduling moving forward. These two midweek games (against a quality opponent no less) followed by playing SEC opponents is brutal.

Witts timely injury also didn’t help

Of course. It threw off the entire rotation for about 3 games. Even with Witt, this bullpen is shaky at best and bullpens get exposed when you play 5 games in 5 days which we are in the middle of.

We don’t have one guy besides Nixon with swing and miss stuff in the backend. Far cry from last year when we had 3. I figured a freshman or two from this past class would factor in but they’ve been MIA.

Yea I think Duplantier has shown the most to earn the Sunday spot so far.

Luke could be that freshman. He’s shown good stuff thus far but idk know if he’s going to develop into a shutdown guy in time. Our bullpen can be good if managed properly, unlike today.

It is early season stuff. By June there will only be a small handful of pitchers who Pierce will use.

Yep but today doesn’t fall under early season stuff when everyone and their dog wouldn’t have chose Blair.

Harrison, Stehle and Nixon can’t throw every game. We have to have 1 or 2 more guys step up. Obviously none of us would have brought in Blair but it’s tough to manage a bullpen where you have 3.5 reliable arms (if you include Southard) and 2 of them were used earlier today and Stehle is likely unavailable after throwing 2 innings yesterday.

Yeah this is gonna be a rough couple weeks, but if Andy McGuire, Josh Sawyer and Parker Joe can be developed into a solid bullpen, well…

Right, Luke was more for the freshman part of your post. We pitched a ton of guys Wednesday night and it’s not rocket science to pick the guys that actually did good. Save Blair for Tuesday or Wednesday against lesser opponents.

These early games are a great opportunity for Pierce to figure out who can do what when before conference play starts. These are learning experiences that will pay dividends in June.

I figured out that Ivan is our only real hitter

Nah they are staying hard and cheering their cocks to the win.

Very not cool. Put a damper on a pretty good sports weekend for Texas (a national title, a runner up finish, a Big 12 tournament title)
