i did not mind the foundational look back at the Mark-Gemma story portion of the episode but man, I do not enjoy watching people get endlessly terrorized.

you have succeeded in making me hate lumon, stiller. let's have some plot now.

Same. When I eventually re-watch the series, I'll probably skip that episode.

Sorry if obvious but it does look like each room (and file) are a different unpleasant memory. As much as I hate to think it, I bet that Cold Harbor is related to her miscarriage. Can Lumon have a person go through that type of traumatic event but walk out the door like nothing happened? And sadly Mark is somehow programming the code to make that occur. Perhaps by blocking the scary numbers which relate to emotions.

FWIW, I'm in the camp that Gemma never was in a car accident. Not that I can explain how she kidnapped but were Devon and Rickon perhaps involved? Of course if you go down that route, who's to say that Gemma wasn't a willing participant with Lumon before she even met Mark.

What's tough for the audience now is that many were probably rooting for happiness between Helly and Mark. Even though Helena is evil in her own way. Not as easy to cheer on Helly and Mark and want Mark to reunite with Gemma.

I'm rooting for a Mark Gemma Helly combo.

I mean, if Gemma can be a different woman every night, then we're getting into Stepford Wives territory.   I'll pick the daily outfit Gemma, thank you very much.

So kind of wild catch (from this reddit post) between last week's episode and a visit to the Eternity Wing.... They're dressing Gemma as different Eagan women in the different rooms

I have a guess as to who might be represented in "Cold Harbor"

Spoiler

I bet Gemma is gonna be wearing Helena's clothes for Cold Harbor.

That seems like the most likely explanation.

For starters, if Lumon was grooming Gemma and Mark for their sadistic plan, why would they risk Gemma being seriously injured and ruining the plan? Much easier to fake her death entirely without ever putting her in jeopardy.

Secondly, her body was burned and Mark had her remains. The very nature of the body being burned raises serious doubt that it was ever her to begin with. I think even Mark realized this new possibility when he mentioned the remains.

I like Helly but it’s very easy for me to root for the Mark and Gemma reunion as the eventual outcome. That was true prior to this episode, but now we’ve been given so much depth to the Mark and Gemma relationship and seen their true happiness prior to their infertility heartbreak (that was likely entirely orchestrated by Lumon).

Innie Mark and Helly don’t have that and possibly never will. For this show to have a happy ending (not saying it will, just saying as a viewer I would prefer that), we need Outie Mark to prevail, or the unsevered version of him. That version of Mark is loyal to Gemma and would view Helly as a work fling in a time of confusion and distress. He would probably wish for the best for her but abandon any romantic feelings.

I’m hoping there’s a way for Innie Helly to be permanently awakened and Outie Helena to cease to exist. Then she can find her own happiness on the outside.

Agree with this. I could also see Helly sacrificing herself at some point for the others. She was always fine with ending her existence if it got her out of severance. Perhaps the team finds a method to re-engage the overtime contingency for Helly and she goes through integration and then sacrifices herself and Helena, ending the Egan line. But there is also the idea that she may be pregnant now and of course we don't know if there are other Egans. We don't even know who the large, bearded guy is. I believe.

And if this all seems unlikely, remember that Milchick is questioning himself. He could easily switch from heel to hero. Or not.

Way late to this (waffle) party like a lot of shows.  The wife and I finished Season 1 last night, and holy shit this is a great show.  I know it borrows from other stories with plot devices like parallel alternate realities, but it's so unique.  As some folks mentioned, the set design makes it difficult to pin down the time period of the show.  Lumen is using some advanced technology, but the computers, cars, furniture, and other set items make it look like something from 1970s Canada.  And there's a touch of dysphoria throughout.

And the acting of the innies and other Lumen employees is fantastic. All four characters of the MDR Department are all so compelling.  And Trammell Tillman steals the show.  He plays Mr. Milichick brilliantly, with always a touch of sinister below the surface.

On to Season 2.

I hope you have a good 5 hours of nothing to do.

This guy's got some unique theories.

lmfao Drummond is now "Evil Hodor" to me. I am really interested to see what they do with the Burt story thread, and to see how deep the rabbit hole goes

Really nice detail to find too, with the linkage to Operation Paperclip and how a file with a backward paperclip indicated a candidate to be recruited

It's impressive the links he, or his team of researchers, is able to find.  I like what he said about Burt not being severed, giving as evidence his interaction with Milchick at his retirement party and also how he uses the name "Oscar" with Milchick as a potential first-name middle-or-higher manager.  It would make sense why O&D was able to send someone to the exports hall elevator until they weren't. Another interesting detail was the extra room behind the Wellness room on Petey's map even though there's nothing tying it in to the storyline at the moment.
