But outie Dylan has to agree, which even though he threatened it I don't think he will because he basically can't get work outside of Lumon. Those doors are shut, literally.

great point. We've learned that outie Dylan is unhireable because of his current connection (severed) with Lumon. Outie Dylan also appears unmotivated and perhaps lazy. The flip side is that he is mad and jealous of innie Dylan.

Of course Lumon only cares about Mark finishing Cold Harbor which is supposedly 1 day away. Will they want to rock the boat by allowing Dylan to resign? I would expect they will ignore the resignation request with the idea that they will fire Dylan by the end of the week.

Can they just “reset” innie Dylan? I feel like they are going to be able to somehow.

They could always just severe Dylan again. I don't think that's where it's gonna go though.

I think that is what the form is for. They will reset him. If Gemma can have 7 different innies it makes sense they could do another inne Dylan and transfer him or let him rejoin to get Mark to finish

I like the idea of a different Dylan showing up but that will be more unsettling to Mark and Helly. Perhaps Drummond does that with Milcheck not being consulted.

Second theory..

Gemma has 7 innies all dealing with a different stress or trauma maybe to be able to block those out through severance.

What if they try to block those negative stresses to Dylan. Not wipe his inne memory, but block the negative feelings.

Maybe that is what they were doing with Irv and why he had been to the black elevator.

The ominous music that was playing during episode 9 sounded so familiar, but I can't put my finger on it. It's driving me crazy.

I figured it out. That music reminded me of the music from Dark City.

Maybe they're all on a giant spaceship.

There are going to be so, so many gifs of Milchik dancing with Choreography and Merriment and I cannot wait.

I was pissed at Mark at the ending, but his and Helly's behavior tracks with the idea that this season has been the innies' "adolescence." He's not really thinking big picture. Otherwise, great episode and I'm glad Brienne of Tarth got a few hits on Drummond AND saved Emile the goat.

And of him just BOLTING out of the room after setting down the binder lol. Lotta good comedy in this episode, even in the middle of some pretty heavy stuff. Really great stuff out of Stiller, I'm stoked for the next season

I've been listening to every arrangement of "Windmills of Your Mind" I can find.  What a great song recorded by so many great artists. Really digging the Dusty Springfield arrangement.

Wow.
That had ALL the emotions.
Just incredible.

Such a long wait ahead.

Question to be pondered:
Since Mark's Cold Water project was to build all those different Gemma innies (Geminis...get it? Twins?), what the hell were the other members of MDR working on? I assume they have individual ones for themselves, n'est-ce pas?

So with regards to the ending of the episode....

Spoiler

That is 100% Helena at the end and not Helly right? Helly wanted Mark the fuck outta there, she wouldn't have made him choose between her and Gemma

I wondered about the Helly / Helena situation at the end. It seemed like Helly the entire episode until that moment, but her sudden presence in the hallway felt like a desperate attempt by Helena to manipulate Mark.

I suppose they have the ability to flip her switch between innie and outie at any given moment, kind of a reverse OTC. So in the middle of the chaos, when Dylan was standing up to Milchick, they could’ve switched her back to Helena to try to salvage the situation.

Maybe, but I don't think so this time.  A big theme of this episode is that the innies are adolescents- as was highlighted by Mark's lengthy Innie to Outie video conversation.  I think the last scene was just an extension of that from both of them.  What they did is something young teenagers would do in the moment.

It was definitely Helly at the beginning, when Jame Eagan came to see her. I wondered at the end though if she hadn't been switched back somehow. I hope we don't have to wait 3 years for the next season.

I'm trying to say this respectfully, but..

1. You guys are way over thinking it

2. This show doesn't suck and pulling some Helena switch (again) at the end with absolutely no "cinema language" to tell the audience (unlike the first time) would be hack as shit.

I wanted Mark to follow Gemma out the door, but I also realized their combined escape would make it difficult to have an interesting plot for season 3, which I hope we are getting. So from a storytelling standpoint, I thought the ending was great.

Gemma seems to be free from her torture and I think innie Mark S and Helly can fight their own fight for a while longer.

There is a possible way for a happy ending that doesn’t involve “killing” the innies. They could have their outies report to the birthing cottage for a few hours each week and let their innies hang out in a place that’s much better than the Lumon severed floor. Or possibly get Ms. Cover to help them develop an entirely new retreat for the innies.

The minor issue here is that outie Helena is currently a villain, so they would need her to be permanently switched to innie Helly or somehow change her outie’s character arc to be more sympathetic.

I brought up the birthing cottage idea to my wife last night.  It does sound like it'd be more of a banging cottage if that happens but whatevs. I think the only way forward is reintegration for all and a mormon marriage between the 3 main characters.

It was Helly. Who would have flipped the switch for a Glasgow block? I guess Jame or Mauer could have but it doesn't seem like there was enough time for them to have. I think it's in-line for Helly to become more of a nuanced character, to become more selfish, as she develops. "I am her", right?  And Jame sees the essence of Kier in her.

"Cold Harbor was about testing whether the barrier could hold and a severed person not feel anything their outie would have felt.  Of all people, it was Innie Mark passing that test and feeling nothing for Gemma at the stairwell door in the end."

Adam Scott in the "Severance" Season 2 finale.

Blue = innie

Red= outie

That was Helena Egan, if Mark escaped with Gemma, Severance would be over or all of their work destroyed (or would have to be started over).  Jam E was watching, and after he said "fuck" they threw the Glasgow switch to get Helly to stop Mark from leaving.

Britt Lower confirmed that it's Helly.

Disagree

, I think she just runs to go see Mark one last time. Maybe there’s a chance they can do this all together. For all they know ,if he crosses that barrier, they’re going to take down Lumon entirely and all of these innies are going to get wiped away. I think it’s just gut instinct that she runs.”

she is guessing.

season 3 script isn’t even complete yet

Also, abandoning Dylan wasn’t part of the plan nor ideal at the time

So the doctor (Robbie benson) yelled you will kill them all near the end.  Is he just talking about the innies?

My guess is that he was talking about all of Gemma's innies - remember, he was into at least one of them.

Jame doesn’t want to flip Helly back to Helena. He hates Helena. He sees Helly as the natural fit to be the next leader of Lumon. I could see that being a plot for the next season where innie Mark and Helly are kept for that purpose. Then you have the people on the outside trying to save Mark. I don’t know where Dylan fits into it.

Well this was an amazing experience.

in no particular order:

amazing to watch the episode in a theater with other fans

Dan Erickson was working a temp job in a… door company (not sure if he was joking or not but the question was about his gig before his big break)

Trammell Tillman appeared with the USC marching band

Britt Lower and Zach Cherry apparently has a podcast about food? She also mentioned Helly likes eggs in S1 and Helena doesn’t in S2

First day of filming the fight, Darri and Adam messed up on the choreography and Adam was tossed into the wall for maximum impact

so amazing… wish the pics were better but I was up in the mezzanine

I have to say, I thought season 2 was really good, not on the masterpiece scale of season 1.
I’m sure it’s crazy trying to write another follow up season to a hit show in this age of immediate internet dissection and discussion.
The marching band scene felt like they saw how much people loved Milchicks music dance experience and said let’s do that again but on steroids.

Great show, people are going to be worked up into quite a lather for the season 3 drop.

Irv leading the charge?
