that escaladed quickly.

Meh, I don't root for other Big 12 teams.  We are directly recruiting against most of them due to geography - especially Tech, because Beard and Adams employ similar styles.

Yeah that's about the response I expected from you.

That's a dumber response than slorch asking why we have a Sweet 16 thread on a sports message board for the biggest NCAA event of the year.

The kindergarten education in Lubbock is really something.

Bro, the way some of you guys let yourselves get all bent out of shape whenever slorch posts anything about Tech is hysterical. Honestly, one would think you'd have have learned by now.

Was it a little silly of him to post that here? Yeah, maybe, but it's not just Texas fans that post here so it's whatever. If it gets just one person here to click and vote it's probably positive EV, I guess. Also, who the fuck cares? Is it really worth starting a fight over?

Then again, I'm the one that says CBB needs more hate, so who am I to judge

Zona and Gonzaga have yet to impress me so far in this tourney. Odds are 50/50 that will change soon. Rest seems fair.

I guess I'm just never going to be sold on Gonzaga until they finally pull it off.

Nah I'd rather stay and make fun of you for acting like an 8 year old with a skinned knee

says the guy who whines the whole time his game is on?  I bet you are a beating to be around in person during a game.

Tech goes down 2-0....."I told you we were going to lose. I have seen this before.  It's over...wah wah wah"

This to me seems as wide open of a Sweet 16 as I can remember.  There are maybe 10 of the remaining 16 that could realistically win it all.  Yes, many would need to get some breaks, but that's the tourney.  And that's why most of the rest of the games from here on out are worth watching.

a little love thrown Mark Adams' way would be appreciated...

You don't have to vote for every category.  Also no input of personal info is required.  Just pick your folk(s), and hit "vote."

Tommy Lloyd coming in as a first year coach and putting UofA immediately in the NC hunt gets my vote.

Thanks for the link, slurch. I voted for Lloyd just cuz fucking with the constant puffery by lost jabronis of a second tier program with approval addiction is worth the click.

Second tier program  with a season that beat Texas in virtually every reasonable measure.  Then again, we know that metric ain’t really worth what y’all think it is.

I put a few bucks on Purdue. Put a few on Kansas to win it at the start of the tournament at +850.

Also a few bucks on Tech +400 to make the Final Four.

As long as we are talking Sweet 16, let's take a stroll down memory lane to 2006.  Adam Morrison tears are delicious.  UCLA was down 17 at one point.

Yeah, I remember. We beat them in similar fashion the year before that, ironically right after beating UCLA.

e: One of our current assistant coaches, Darryl Dora, was on that team IIRC.

Man, I don't really remember the circumstances of that team entirely, but I just skimmed through a replay of that 2005 Tech/Gonzaga and we played the same 5 guys for the entire second half, save for a stretch of about 1:30 where one of our bigs came off the floor after a hard fall. Bobby Knight was something else.

I have access to two online sports books (heritage and some rando book affiliated with ACR poker). Pretty big discrepancy in odds. If you plan on throwing down any money it pays to shop around. I took Kenpom's winning percentages and translated them to implied odds. Based on that UCLA would be the "best bet" on the board for the odds shown earlier in this post as well as my sportsbooks. Kenpom would make them +1100 (+1400 on both of my books)

I know this is difficult for y'all, but the status of the Texas Tech basketball program is not measured solely by the results against the Texas basketball program. But for you maybe that's all that really matters.

You really do get sandy with the mere semblance of a slight towards your pan flash program. Calling Tech second tier is a compliment jackass. Texas is hopefully getting back to second tier. Second tier means you're a current successful program that might have a title or two with your current coach, but you don't have the past history. Gonzaga has been one of the most consistent programs in recent history, but they're still not first tier either, especially with no titles.  Even Baylor isn't there until they do it again multiple times with different coaches. That is what defines the first tier. First tier is not for temporary shining stars, it's for the programs with generations of winning championships. A blue blood if you will. As an analogous comparison, the Texas baseball program is first tier. The Texas Tech baseball program is not. Recent success puts the Tech baseball program as a player in the second tier.

There are four* first tier programs in the S16, Duke, KU, UCLA, and UNC. You should be feel excited that you get to play one of them in a few hours in a very winnable game. But winning the game doesn't change the historic status of the two programs. Tech basketball has not done anything. Ever. Take it from a fanbase of a team that finished #3 20 years ago. That shit is hard to replicate and even harder to go farther. And that runner-up finish won't matter to anyone but you until the day you die. First or fail.

*I debated on Villanova, but would probably call them 1.5 tier. But they're real close.

I agree with all of this. I'm glad slorch is passionate about defending our program, but it doesn't need to be defended. It's damn near impossible to break into top tier status in the CBB world, especially in the modern age, and it comes with just how insanely difficult it is to win a title. Hell, Coach K has been at it for 40 fuckin years at Duke and has "only" done it what, 5 times?

e: Yeah I was thinking about Villanova as well. It feels like winning 2 very recent titles in 3 years (which is an absolutely mind boggling accomplishment in modern CBB) should qualify them, but even they don't often get put in the conversation.

It would also matter if I was seeking a fucking nod from anyone as to what gotdam tier Tech basketball might be in.

All Tech can control is what is front of them.

Couldn't be happier with where the program is at. We endured the "welcome to irrelevancy" when Beard was stolen( y'all's terminology, not ours.)  We listened to the laughing and laughing and more laughing.  We were mostly good sports about it.

Now shit is starting to get salty, and it ain't the Tech crowd.   Y'all will always be who you fucking are.  Own it. Ain't our fault Texas ain't playing this weekend.

Chet Holmgren is completely not a top 5 pick, not even top 10 imo. Watch some idiot GM take him there, probably Houston given the owner's love of the 3 ball.

Zags are very well coached but don't have many athletes.   Liking Nova to win it all.
