God damnit if we can't win a conference championship with Quinn Ewers, Bijan Robinson, Isaiah Neyor, Xavier Worthy, Jordan Whittington, and Ja'Tavion Sanders on offense, we may never.

Ewers is a rookie at the college game.

Other than Bijan other teams in conference have guys who are just as good and some better.

It's easy to overrate your own players because you don't see the quality of the other teams' players this time of year.

not really. most of the time it’s very subdued and the $9.95ers do everything they can to manage expectations. the media optimism this spring is something new.

the stark difference this year has me considering getting a subscription, but I think I'm going to ask if they have anything more expensive that 9.95. Or maybe they will let me purchase two subscriptions.

Yup, our defense just needs to keep Kansas under 50 and we're golden

This a shit take and you should feel bad.  We are loaded with skill talent on O.   Just enjoy it when it’s clicking which should be often.  Some timely stops on D in the 2nd half this year will translate to many more wins … and don’t forget that every top team in the B12 (OU, OSU, BU, and ISU) are taking a big step backwards this year with graduation and transfer impacts.  I’m with the 10 win crowd a hell of lot more the five win crowd. Quit being a pussy.

What were spring practice reports like last year? Feels like the spring practice sunshine pumping is a yearly thing

They're like this every year. Last year they gave no mention of the team not buying in to Sark. Then the season and a long losing streak happened and all of a sudden in January they were saying there were signs of it in spring when the team didn't buy in to Sark. They just say what the coaching staff wants them to say at any given time.

You know who is subbing to all of these things? Idiots like this fucktard who eat the bait every year hook line and sinker:

There were hardly any freshman contributors anywhere before early enrollment became popular.  I can name Ricky Williams off the top of my head, but even he played fullback as a freshman.

Ricky ran for 990 yards on 6 ypc as a freshman.

The Cuero native's slimmed down but still powerful frame was noticeable by every source we talked to and was among the many stock up performers on the day.

This could be big. Dude's needed to carry less weight for awhile now.

We have had much more skill position talent than 90% of the teams that have beaten us the last 12 years.

What has caused us to lose those games will not be better this year and, at least the first half of the season, will likely be worse.

Last year the goal should have been to score 50 points a game once we fully realized the defense was shit. If the defensive talent isn't there yet and they can't make timely stops again this year, the goal should be to score 60 a game. All gas, no brakes, right?

I'm very happy to win games like we did vs. Tech last year.

I wish we could post direct quotes from bystanders at the scrimmage but some were harsh, likely unfairly because of how early it is iin spring and it being an overall small sample size. However, we’re going to share the sentiment.

One bystander in particular knows what good looks like and he didn’t see enough of it on Saturday. We’ll post his info first.

— Byron Murphy caught this person’s attention even in warmups.

— The EDGE is still too soft, lot’s of work to be done.

— Terrance Brooks plays fast/smart. We weren’t surprised to hear of a high IQ player standing out to this source.

— Neither of the QB’s excited him. They need someone to step up. He felt Quinn Ewers struggled and Hudson Card looked better than a year ago but still a long way to go at the position. He says Card is better than Ewers right now.

— Ewers‘ issues were attributed to lack of experience and likely highlighted by the full-speed nature of the scrimmage. (Has he even gone this speed since his junior year of high school?)

— The defense looks better than the offense, and better overall from last year. But still issues (particularly edge).

That was just one scrimmage, don’t take anything as gospel, but that person has real experience and is football smart.

Some other notes — and a little more encouraging overall:

— David Gbenda and Jaylan Ford looked much more comfortable out there. CtG doing work.

— DeMarvion Overshown was the best linebacker. He was everywhere per multiple sources. “Overshown might be the only guy who can tackle Bijan 1 on 1.”

— More sentiment regarding the defense getting the better of the offense — this was pretty universal.

— D’Shawn Jamison had a pick-six

— The offense did hit some shots late as the scrimmage wore on. The offense is more vertical in nature over last year, and well, it was pretty vertical last year.

I suspect we’ll hear of the offense closing the gap over the coming weeks.

Pretty sure that was their goal but it became pretty hard when we could barely complete a forward pass after the Baylor game.

you mean a LT on offense?

LT or RT. Most of the guys that we recruited will start out on the interior and move once they get acclimated to college football. So, I think we will immediately have depth on the interior this fall. As long as center can hold up we will be fine. And honestly, most of the problems at center are technique rather than ability. I expect we will see a decent improvement this year. On the outside we have 2 guys who are average. And then we have what exactly? Hearing that Ovie is getting sacks does not give me the warm fuzzies.

If we get Mathis, then Edge could be decent with him on one side, Sorrell/Finkley on the other and Oghoufo as a pass rush specialist, but if we don’t get Mathis then we’re absolutely fucked. If this staff isn’t working feverishly to line up a ton of NIL money for Mathis, then they’re damn fools.

Not as worried about RT. That can be dealt with. LT is just hard.

Just my opinion, but fixing the edge on defense is pretty much the season

Will be interesting to see if any other quality edge players become available in the portal in the next month. Might make sense to take 2 if they feel they get by at LB and safety with what they have. Setting the edge makes everyone’s lives so much easier.

That is one of the issues. Texas needs an Edge and an LT. Those do not come available in the portal much. Much easier to find interior guys.

Neyor who gets lit up? Can’t really see if it’s 18 or not.

For those who know ball, are carriers taught to tuck their heads when taking a hit? I know tacklers are told to keep their heads and eyes up, but it seems like Neyor is putting his head closer to the point of contact and potentially in the line of fire when doing that. I also understand that a person naturally tenses up when pain is imminent.
